This game isn't enjoyable at all! =(

Not terribly upset about the wasted 50 bucks...

But I've been trying to enjoy this game even a little and I can't!

The Asian influence is so beyond huge I almost can't stand it.  The actual class abilities are pretty boring.

"Ranged" classes aren't really ranged as just about every spell is either melee range or "Does less damage at longer range" and because every ability in game (almost) requires you to stop and wait for animations, melee will be up in your face after 1-2 attacks anyway!

The melee classes:  "Does damage and swords swing around a ton for a second or two"   next ability... "Does damage and swords swing around and you jump up in air"

I've always enjoyed playing ranged classes in any RPG and they are flat out terrible in this game =(

In PvE fights against a boss, the two ranged classes end up fighting in almost melee range, stand at what I would consider a resonable RANGE from the boss and you'll likely find your abilities doing less damage or missing due to out of range issues!

Guess I was so beyond bored I figured i'd give it a shot, and I find myself bored and having zero fun right from the start.  At least AION kept my attention for a few days =(

Ranged classes don't just get to stand in one spot on the outside and nuke the bosses unmolested like they do in every other game.  They need to move for positioning.   Boss fights in this game are mobile and fluid.  If you are a ranged class and trying to play the game from one spot, you aren't playing your class correctly.  This goes for the healing classes as well.  The combat is about positioning, reaction time, and strategy.  The kind of combat it appears you're looking for you'd be able to find in a game like WoW, where you are allowed to pick a spot on the perimeter and chain nuke the target with little to no repercussions.

Sorry you didn't enjoy the game.

  • PainlezzPainlezz Member UncommonPosts: 646

Ranged classes aren't about range... that is the purpose of my comment.

Sorc -> you start with auto attack that has max range of what looks like 2 feetish and your next ability is melee range aoe....  After that you get a very short range aoe nuke in front of you...  then a point blank trap you drop at your feet...

Archer -> you get auto attack that has pretty short range.  And a few other attacks that are also short ranged.  It seemed like at least 50% of the skills you get say "Does less damage at longer ranges"

Ranged class that gets reduced damage for fighting things at range?

Also, the clothing is just stupid....

I have half naked women on my desktop, plenty of porn, nothing wrong with nudity in my book...  But the clothing on these classes is just annoying to me... [mod edit]  I think that goes along with the Asian style, very Anime and just not my tastes... I don't give this game negative points because of the art style.  I give it negative points because I don't enjoy anything about it =(

I don't want to Play WoW, but I did enjoy WoW when I logged in for the very first time so many years ago.  I don't want to play AoC, but I did enjoy it when i logged in for the first time.  I don't want to play Aion even with free-to-play, however I did enjoy it when I first logged in years ago.  I don't want to play Everquest.... bla bla bla.

The point i'm trying to make, this is probably the first MMO, where I honestly didn't enjoy it from the very start.

I played Tabula Rasa beta and Retail and really enjoyed the game.  It has nothing to do with FPS style gameplay.  I play LoL and just about only play "Skill shot" hero stypes.

Thats a shame about the 50 bucks....but didn't you play any of the ...3...4....5. beta weekends?

Sorry but i've enjoyed Tera immensely. I love the jaw dropping beautiful world, challenging combat.  Not sure why people are so  obssessed with this asian influence  because all the monsters etc i've come across look far better than anything else i've encountered in a mmo. And GW2 just looks dated in comparison visual wise.  The game just keeps getting better and better for me.

this game is a sleeper thats gone under the radar

^Same. I hate to judge a game so quickly but I honeslty logged into the beta, ran around for a few minutes and logged out. Can't stand the gameplay. I agree with the previous statements about asian mmos. I hate to stereotype, but there is just something different about them that doesn't sit well with me. It's a shame tho, this game looked interesting.

So you based your experience off graphics and looks rather then gameplay?

This is whats wrong with todays "gamers."

    Gameplay > graphics.

I'm sorry OP ended up not liking Tera but I really hoped he anyone else in the same predicament learn from this and stop buying games without even spending enough time trying it out to find out if they like it.

LOL this just won the prize for biggest BS of the month.

Na I'm pretty sure there is bigger BS coming from GW2 fanboys o.o

@OP If you enjoy standing like 1 mile away from mobs and just press buttom till they die well thats your choice. So of us enjoy the fact you don't just stand and snipe everything in the comfert of your own home, some people enjoy been invovled in the battle, having to move and dodge. To gage the risk of going closer for more dmg or staying back for less. To each of his own is all i have to say. And for everyone who played for 5mins... ya no one going to listen to you, and i seriously hope you all understand all stupid these statement sounds when you read it -.-

Positioning would be great and fun IF there wasn't that stupid pause to cast making it a pita.  Seriously, that pause has got to go.

That pause is there for two reasons:  BAMS and PvP.  Without that pause, which in essence replaces the global cooldown, soloing BAMs would be incredibly easy and without challenge.  People could do it in their sleep simply by kiting or circle strafing while spamming abilities, since there is very little RNG factor attached to the combat in this game.   And in PvP, which is the bread and butter of this game, it would be impossible to balance since ranged classes would be unstoppable.  They'd be able to keep their distance and burn your health down as a melee before you even got to touch them.

This game doesn't have an overabundance of gap-closers.  And it doesn't have an overabundance of CC's, snares, and slows.  It also doesn't have an overabundance of long cooldowns on abilities. They designed this game to allow PvP to be decided by strategy, aim, and skill, and for there to be consequences for making the wrong move or mistiming an attack in battle.  Taking that root out of the equation would nullify that design philosophy and turn the combat into a spam-fest like certain games that are currently in beta.

I get a kick out of all the people who are upset about skimpy clothes the asian characters have on in Tera, the US has such a repressed and prudish society, it really is funny, I also think it is silly to complain about the combat in this game, the combat is simply better than wow or the other typical games, it is on a par with AOC and allowes you to not stand there and be bored.  The thing this game lacks is a coherant story w voice overs but beside that it is a very good PvP game

No it has not. You have your dream game without root, go play it.

You alrady said, often, that you don't like Tera on many levels, not only for the root. So leave the people who play the game, and enjoyed it, decide what have to stay and what have to go.

Dear folks who don't like animation lock.

Please stop posting about it, we get it, you don't understand thats the one thing keeping us from a mindless meaingless zerg fest.  We enjoy challenge and we enjoy action, you can't simply have everyone running around with no RISK vs REWARD.

If I stop to cast this spell that heals me,then I might get hit by the thing chasing me and die.

Risk Vs Reward folks, use your heads its extremely obvious at this point, and people have been explaining it to you for weeks.

  • helthroshelthros Member UncommonPosts: 1,449

The only people that get bugged by the "animation-lock" thing seem to be the people that have zero understanding of tactics and strategy in gameplay. To them it's all about mashing your face on the keyboard at will without any downfalls.

To the OP, sorry you didn't like it. As an old time MMOer that goes back before MMOs to MUDs I can say that TERA combat has ruined every other game. I was hyped over GW2, but after playing the TERA combat I simply can't stomach any other combat anymore. To really give this game a shot you have to play it to lvl 20. Once you start getting into groups you'll really see what the game has to offer.

The Asisn theme being a turnoff seems really superficial to me, but oh well guess we have those in the gaming world as well, no surprise there. Hurray for our generation :)

No, i'm sorry you are 100% wrong.

If I were to remove all the equipment/clothing from my character I would be perfectly ok with nipples, vag, or big floppy dong swinging around.  But when I put on a suit of ARMOR, I do not want to see a my ass hanging out as I run around.  It's childish to expect people to WANT that.

Also, someone commented about my "homosexual man elf 6-pack" statement...  I have two gay male friends.  Both of which you would NEVER know were gay unless they told you.  Why?  Because they act like every other human male on the planet (give or take).

I'm equally bothered by the Asian male character models as I am about the Female.  I personally hate the art style and the Anime softcore porn.  It's annoying.  I can resepct others may enjoy it, but I do not.

You know, I had no complaints about AoC boobs and models... I think it comes down to the fact that I HATE Asian anime art.  Every Asian style game that comes out has the same look/feel to the female/elf/male characters and I hate it.

But you know what, I can move past the art/visuals of a game.  Unfortunately the GAMEplay for Tera is terrible.  I don't enjoy any of it.  I dropped 50 dollars on it, I have nothing else to do this weekend but play games, and I find myself hitting alt+f4 and loading up League of Legends....

No sense to argue really.  If you enjoy it, great!  I, and as it seems, many others do not enjoy it.  I guess it makes me feel good for some reason that others can't stand the game.

I did not take time to play any beta events so I had no way to know if i'd enjoy the game or not.  I assumed it would be like SWTOR and i'd get at least a week or two of enjoyment.  I created this thread because I cannot spend more than 5-10 min without wanting to quit.

People go on and on about the combat... and how "You can't stand in one spot and shoot..."  You know what, great!  You can't move either because every ability locks you down to cast.

You can try to justify it and call people names (Stupid noob for example) because they don't enjoy the bad combat.   Age of Conan has the same exact action oriented NO target combat... yet you aren't locked to the ground while fighting.

Tera combat is not fluid and enjoyable, it's rooted cooldown based... bad.

Again, Age of Conan (AoC) has a very similar combat system for melee, only better in so many ways.

I believe the graphics of a game is extremely important as you will be playing and seeing the game at all times. I think it is equally important as gameplay, and like the OP I hate the Asian theme with the half naked characters. For me, that alone is a deal breaker. The graphics quality is amazing with everything maxxed out, but I'm talking about the graphics theme. In my opinion if I'm paying for a sub then I better like the way it looks or at least the majority. Also, the pause between the moves as people have talked about makes the combat feel kinda choppy, but I do realize the reasoning behind this.

People must realize though that this is a different MMO then the one you are or have played. You will have to make adjustments, but for me its not the one now. I do think it will be a popular game and definately will be successful. I might try it out later down the road. More power to the ones enjoying this game! Back to my ps3.
