Gate Wars 2

After playing WvWvW all day thats pretty much what the pvp is unfortunetly. Even with Siege equipment taking a single gate takes damn near 30 minutes because the other team just stands behind the gate and repairs it forever. I enjoy keep battles but cmon now. 30 min of smashing a gate or repairing one isnt what i call enjoyable pvp.

    There is also structured PvP and they are going to hold tournaments as well similar to the tournaments from GW.

     

    But yeah, WvW has sieges and sieges aren't for everyone.

    Take in count that WvW is used to last 2 weeks so taking a keep in 5 mins is just dumb. Think that there are siege weapons, monsters that will aid afther helping them and that the defenders can upgrade their keeps hiring more guards and building better defenses.

    In the end, the WvW is designed to make long figths that take place over 2 weeks, its not designed to run in a zerg bashing doors.

    man I would like a instanced PvP game in GW2, that consist of a small map but 40 vs 40 keep battles. now that would be epic.

     

    no large map with few way points. all out battle.

     

    each death reduce total points till final point and your team lose.

     

    all out War.

     

    right now, in WvW the map is too big and waypoints too few. most of the time you spend running.

     

    I want to fight. But I hate small scale instanced like 5v5

    I think you can upgrade a keep so it has a waypoint making it easier to run back in battle.

    Aren't he wall destructible too? you can by pass gate by destroying keep walls. But hey Gate Wars is a very catchy title ;p

    If the enemy players are endlessly repairing the gates, then what you need to do is attack the supply camps and make sure they can't repair any more. I was in a group trying to defend a keep with no supply, and they were just breaking down the gates (and walls) again and again. We'd just manage to get a supply caravan through to repair a little, and they'd have a flame ram up to knock things down again.

    The trick with WvW will be to use a variety of tactics depending on the situation.

    so wait,the wvw thing is only for a certain period of time?

    thats lame,i guess ill stick with swtor if all im ever gonna do in gw2 is lame battleground pvp all day

    (i know when i had this argument before,someone actually said that wvwwvw whatever pvp wasnt actually considered a battleground nor was it world pvp)

    id call it gate wars if thats all you did in WvW. but there's so much more to do. last night, i raided convoys with a fellow green, engaging in tons of small skirmishes, and did some small gang underwater combat as well. amazing.

    so you can actually sucessfully solo pvp in wvwvw? cuz the map i saw when the person was actually showing the area you do it in looked huge.it seems like theres really going to be no situation where you could pvp solo and actually not get steamrolled

    You can use more than one siege weapon per gate, there are several types of Siege Weapons (Rams, Catapults, etc...), one also needs to keep an eye out for Supply Vans and destroy them before they reach the Keep/Towers so that the Defenders don't get more supplies to repair the gate/walls.

    When I did WvWvW with my Guild we had 1 Ram and 1 Catapult taking down a Gate, it was fairly quick, Ranged mostly just kept the Defenders out of the Ramparts, while Melee helped with the gate or kept an eye on our rear for any Defenders trying to make a run to the Keep/Tower.

    Unfortunately as others have pointed out, WvWvW is resetting daily and not giving enough time to actually improve the Keep/Tower defenses, also as being only a 3 day Beta, folks don't have enough money to buy those upgrades.

    Yeah, there are destructible walls surrounding Towers, Keeps & Castles, with the only way to destroy them is to use Catapults or Trebuchets. Yet no matter how much a yelled in Team chat, to get my side to smash in the walls on the impenetrable Keeps, they all simply proceeding to smash their faces against the Gates. Occasionally even getting a battering ram.

     

    It will take more than a Beta Weekend for people to learn the intricacies of WvW and that it is more than just Gate Wars. And that a Battering Ram doing 8,000dmg to a Gate, per hit, is a lot more effective than skills that do about 50dmg to a gate.

    I am trying to follow your logic, large map, many resource points, = no place to go and steamrolled.

    Not exactly crammed. As in any PVP game you won't be handed situations you will have to make them. But you can indeed not gate bash and go forth and disrupt supplies.

    Option A.

    Destroy the gate using skills that do 30 damage.

     

    Option B.

    Destroy the gates use siege weapons that do 5k to 10k damage.

     

    Option C.

    Destroy the supply camps and destroy the gate using whatever method you want.

     

    Option D.

    Destroy the wall using siege weapons.

     

    Option E.

    Go to another WvW resource while one server sits inside a keep...

     

    Option F.

    Go do another thing in the game.

     

    I bet there's more options i just haven't looked into World vs World yet.

     

    World vs World without guilds simply won't be great, wait for the DAOC and WAR guilds to start playing and then you'll see what massive fighting is.

    Surprisingly, you can do a bit of solo PvP in WvW. Maybe not solo-ing an objective, but you may stumble across a straggler to gank. However it is always best to roam in groups, even if it 's a small group. Actually earlier today I had a fun time in Stonemist Castle (that our server owned), where the other 2 servers were both sieging us and our side were holding up. Well I don't know how it started but me and some random guy began working together to kill them 1 by 1. He was on the wall manning the cannon to the side and I would run out and try to bait a few of them into the killing field and finish them off. Got so many kills & much loot from doing that before I died. image

    but why even call it pvp when all your doing is using a bunch of vehicles and battering rams and crap.the words pvp mean player vs player,developers shouldnt forget what that actually means

    im clueless about wvwvw pvp? sorry im not a part of the cool kid lets waste my time in some crap beta all day for gw2 and have extensive knowledge like some people do on it
