My first few hours in Tera

eccotoneccoton Member UncommonPosts: 1,340

This is not a review of Tera just a bit of my take on Tera based on a few hours of play. I have only reached level 14 and have tried 5 different classes so my exposure to the game is limited. When I first logged in the graphic were amazing so the eye candy is in place. The game is wonderful to look at. When I started to move around I found the controls clunky at first but as I got use to them the game came to life. I almost did not give it time because I hated the interface but the look kept me playing and now I have no problem with the interface. You can use a xbox controller but I liked the keyboard better but many players us a controller.

The game is beautiful and very rich. It seems to be huge so far, as a player who likes to explore I have been having fun. The storyline is ok but a bit bland. The quest can be a bit grindy (typical Korean mmo) but that does not get in the way. The combat and visuals make up for it. Yes there are lots of bare asses and big boobs bouncing all over the place. Tera has more female toons then any mmo I have played the boobs physics might have something to do with that. However, I love the look of Tera. I had a very similar reaction to WOW my first few hours but Tera grabbed me faster.

The community has been really good so far. A few WOWish kids but moslty good helpful players. The game performance is great I only had two strange glitches. One I was bumped out of the game and one when I would hit my spacebar to jump my windows internet explorer would open. Restarting game solved this. Like all new mmos a few minor glitches but over all pretty smooth and polished early access. Group combat is really fun and I am looking forward to some pvp.

I did not follow Tera at all so I had no expectations and tried it based on a few comments here and boredom with my current games and I am glad I did. I have a feeling this game is a sleeper and will be a big hit as the word gets out. Will this game hold me for years? I don't know that yet. However I am looking forward to getting home from work to play, something that an mmo has not done for me in a very long time. Tera is a wonderful game well made and worth a look. You might be suprised like I was. I even bought the collector's edition. If I gave it a rating it would be an 8.5 out of 10 so far.

Just wait until you hit level 20. The game gets so much more interesting. First and second dungeons are spectacular -- challenging, beauitful and a blast to play through.

    You'll need a full group

you will need a tank a dps and a healer.

Or 2 dps with VERY good situational awareness. You can do it with 2+ but recommend 4+ for optomial clears.

We are just that. A DPS, a tank and a healer. Or a archer, warrior and a mystic.

tera isnt new fyi, its been out for like 2 years in korea, just saying, the glitches shouldnt be popping up like a fresh north american beta.

I'm no pro, and you can give that a try, but I would strongly recommend a full group; Tank, Healer, 3 dps  for when you are entering the first dungeon at level 21-22. Aferwards you can run with 3 players.

Edit: Sorry I went off topic.. Give it a while longer OP. The game gets better. Unfortunately, it isn't for everyone.

FYI: 1 year, and there were MAJOR changes to bring the game to western markets. But who is counting?

I actually almost had an impulse buy on this game, sight was up untill i click to buy it.

Not sure if it was a sign or not.

Just curious how FPS dependant is the game?  Ive played games like darkfall ect but sometimes i find the mouse targeting to get a bit messy especially when your trying to get some form of situational awareness.  I didnt like how looking to my right meant i had to relocate and aim...it was fun for mobs but in pvp it became a question of who could seizure their mouse the best while maintaining their aim won...rather than skill or smarts.

    Any insight?

As a point of note, some dungeons, if you get a little higher can be soloed.

Just in case people are looking for that "extra challenge".

Its not in first person mode like darkfall, its more like a 3rd person fps. If you play like monster hunter or god eater burst you know what i mean. So its not too bad because you still see some area behind and next to you.

I have a pretty good system but not the best. I have all settings maxed at 1920 x 1080 and the game preforms great. I have not seen a way to check fps in game but I am very familiar with fps and I would say I stay above 60 at all time. I think fps is important to Tera and every mmo. This game looks and plays smooth.
