Here is a great podcast/video series called tales of tyria (if you haven't heard of it). This is a great group of people who, I feel, take a very objective look at the game from multiple different viewpoints.

Their latest video is a special that discusses the beta in its entirety (even going into detail on the great WvWvW battle of the bay) and is a few hours long. They explain everything wonderfully. Without further ado.

Haha! ;p The portal stuff is so funny.

Anyway, the video is great thanks.

And ye the developers (yes a lot of them, it was not just the PR guys) responded a lot in the beta forum each for their domain, that was really great to see that, very responsive and involved team, and really those guys wasn't cheesy at all in the way they responded but could take it from the players complains, and have really precise responses about their own design choices. I liked that very much indeed. Even if 2 days was really to short to do much, read the forum, play the game and try all that, i wish it lasted like a week to give us a lot wider and complete view of the game.

And ye the pets, jez, those pets lol, they should just shatter when they or their master die or something, they were so annoying. I wish you could just disable them and not see them at all unless they attack you in pvp really, like a switch off pet option in setting. Also those damn pets where the only one that could ignore castle wall in WvW, and you had some of those pet attacking you when standing on the castle walls, and they are pretty useless stuff and do low damage, just plain annoying if you are not a ranger to see all those pets around imo.

Chat need work, but chat is pretty much the weak point in mmo because they are visuals mostly so its quiet hard to make chat work properly in them. They can put bubbles, but this also can become so annoying, they would need to make a huge setting tab only for it to work properly for the different gameplay, probably with few settings you can save or something, with the abilities for the player to tweak the range around the character they would appear, the transparency, the time they would stay, how much lines they could contain... So that would need its own system to make it work correctly. That would be huge if they could make something like that though.

And ye i said it in the forum i also felt a kind of level hole with my human before going to the next lv15+ area, i did miss the last big event with the world boss in the swamp, but still, i think they should add a couple of hearts around lv 12/15 in human area. What was amazing is that if you took out events/heart, instently the grind feeling would come back in the sense of "damn i need more xp, where should i go or do to get those?" And you had no obvious answer here for you. So they really shouldn't let a lot of leveling hole as it was in Aion, they really should test this and be very careful about this imo, and not only for the first 30 lv.

Did you explore the maps, follow the dynamic events or do the personal story? Those things offered as much exp as the heart quests. I got to 25 without ever trying to level.

Yeah it kind of depended on what you did. PvP also leveled you so if you did your personal story, did dynamic events and participated in PvP some of the time you were generally fine. Still, I concede and agree with both Requiamer and the podcast team that there are some gaps right now between zones. Anet has stated they will work on tweaking the numbers to make it fit better. To be completely honest though I barely even noticed my level in the game. I was brought to new areas by my personal story and not by my level at the time. I did the events in the area, did some personal story and eventually I just advanced. I never once stopped and said "ok, I'm level 20 now so I can move on". I only new my level for about the first 20 minutes than I didn't even notice aside from gaining skill points and traits. Not because it wasn't important to know but the world was so fluid I never felt I HAD to know. I moved to new areas gradually and on my own. I was not forced into them by arbitrary level gates. Although the areas are certainly leveled I seemlessly moved between them.

I have to believe that people who felt there wasn't enoung content in the 1-15 zone to reach level 15 either missed some areas of the zone, or ignored most Dynamic Events and only did hearts. I was level 13 when I was still doing level 9 content in the Human Zone and skipped some stuff there on the last day, in order to go check out the next zone when I was level 18.

I have to believe that people who felt there wasn't enough content in the 1-15 zone to reach level 15 either missed some areas of the zone, or ignored most Dynamic Events and only did hearts. No,no i made them all, as i said the whole map was uncovered, made all the hearts and the skills stuff.
The only real big thing i miss was the last huge boss fight i saw in videos, the behemoth or whatever the huge last boss in the 1-15 human area was. But when wondering in this last event zone i was pretty much all the time alone even if i stayed there for a long period and came back few times, so the event might have not triggered because of the lack of people, i still think i made the heart from this zone though, so.
But ye i wasn't the only one to say it, i said it here because in the video the Op is presenting here, they mentioned it as a complain from people, so i just wanted to say that i experienced the same thing. Also i made no personal story (don't want to spoil this), but i don't think your leveling should be altered by it, those are separate aspects of the game imo.

I never saw any gaps. Moved from 1-15 into 15-25 (though I came back to get the last couple of skill points and points of interest I missed int he 1 - 15 zone). The personal story ended at 19 for me (the level 20 next step in the story line). When I found some of the area getting a bit more difficult in the 1st 15 - 25 zone, I went to the other level 15 - 25 zone (Charr) and continued to move on up. (Started in the Norn area and I think the area to the NW was the Norn 15 - 25 while the NE area would have been the Charr 15 - 25).

I do think that after level 20 the stopped Story line caused a small discrepancy in level to area ratio. I stopped around level 24 and figure there would have been at least 2 and maybe 3 more steps to the Story questline I would have seen. That would have accounted for the better part of at least 1 level.

Thanks for the plug Nightshade :)  I do try to put together a panel that has many different viewpoints so we have good back and forth about all the issues.

I heard some guy say he ran out of things he could do at an appropriate level range by 5; either he was trolling, a complete moron, or just missed a lot of content.

My Mesmer did every Queensdale heart and skill challenge (except he GD broken one). And any and all DEs I might run across while going to those things. I never did a DE twice (save Shadow Behemoth, because seriously, he's a blue farm). I know for a FACT I missed at least 6-7 DEs hidden in out of the way places, maybe LOTS more. I saw hints of events that no one triggered yet, and saw triggers that I did not choose to start because I was buy with other things. Also did my personal story quests pretty much up to their recommended level at all times.

I was 18 when I left Queensdale. I could have been 20 with little effort and no repetition, I think. And that's not even including that I could have tried levelling via pvp. There should never be a gap in content.

I did not pay super close attention but someone told me that you get a really big chunk of your leveling XP through the personal story.  So I imagine that if you were not participating at all in the personal story after the tutorial then you might be underleveled by the time you get to level 5, as there are probably another 2 levels worth of XP in the 2-3 personal story elements up to level 5.
