now that i think of it, it cannot be as big as Skyrim. It MUST be bigger, covering every map of Tamriel. I heard something about Hero Engine, i hope they do a good job if they are planning on using that ugly little engine. But the graphics cannot look inferior to Skyrim in any way.
Vidir they already announced 3 factions fight to control cyrodil. It's headed by the head pvp guy from daoc. I think its safe to say the game will have lots of pvp. I don't think it will be a manifest though, I suspect the other provinces will be pve on pve servers

Hmm, they said the whole world right?
At least behind the logo in the pictures is a linear map with MW, Black Marsh, etc. I bet it will be pretty vast.
I don't feel any interest at all in the name alone, skyrim and oblivion were fun but mostly due to the modding capabilities, never truly cared much for the actual IP.
Until there is some actual information it might aswell be unanounced to me.
I hope it will be good. A game with a open virtual world and a strong focus on exploring and long travel. Perhaps they have learned from all the games that was released the last years.
Hero engine is fine. Blaming hero engine is just a self denial tactic by bioware fanbois. Hero engine works like that in swtor because bioware wanted an instanced sprpg with some coop.
I'm in no way a BW fanboi and I have yet to see a good game created with HeroEngine. I think there's a reason why not so many studios have used it yet (and many create their own engine). Their main selling point is the development time with their engine is estimated at 18 months and also Zenimax online said that's why they picked that engine. It's just a time saver and indeed time will tell if a great game can run on that engine but I understand folks (incl. myself) being sceptical about it.

Development started back in '07. My first question is how will Elastic Path be utilized? Are they already building an Origin style store front or is this just to handle their monthly subs? They have licensed the Hero Engine, but I hope more of the tech used in Skyrim is utilized here. The real pivot point is the Radiant AI & Story System, this is the heart and mind that made The Elder Scrolls what they are. But All of this depended on a single player environment. All bets are off in an MMO universe. You can't say that player #1 broke this crate or explored this room so it is no longer discoverable. I think this is what most TES player will expect. Radiant moved objectives to undiscovered zones, I really wonder how this will play out in an MMO setting. The implications almost makes me want to laugh. Quest objective dynamically shifted on an individual basis so that quests become what? Moving targets? I think fans will learn that the magic of their favorite single player games were just smoke and mirrors, as all magic really is. Or they will fall for the magic all over again.
FYI ZeniMax own Bethesda & ID, sorta like EA owns BW.
Pardon any spelling errors
Konfess your cyns and some maybe forgiven Boy: Why can't I talk to Him? Mom: We don't talk to Priests. As if it could exist, without being payed for. F2P means you get what you paid for. Pay nothing, get nothing. Even telemarketers wouldn't think that. It costs money to play. Therefore P2W.
Elder Scrolls Online will take place in Tamriel, which includes the provinces of Cyrodiil (where The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion was set) andSkyrim (the setting of The Elder Scrolls V) and the region called Elsweyr[1].
"Esport with tournaments is for hardcore pvp'rs that want to be competitive. Openworld PVP with ganking and griefing is for casuals that just wants their pvp mixed with pve from time to time." otacu
It will be interesting to see if they can pull it off or not. As we know, just because you can make great singlepalayer games must not mean you also can make great MMOs...
I think I need a bit more info before I get hyped for the game.
Just want to throw it out there and I will be happy to take a warning for it.
Thanks BIOWARE for fucking up Single player RPG's for good. Now everyone wants to take single player games and put them online for a sub fee. This is crap and no chance it will end well. It will screw up a legendary franchise.
The devs are just pissed it was so easy to bootleg torrent the Skyrim Razor version and they lost out on money. Next up Mass Effect MMO.....Modern Warfare MMO.......Bioshock MMO.....Pokemon MMO.....
I hope they're going to keep making single-player TES games, too. As fun as an Elder Scrolls MMO could potentially be, the MMO experience does not in any way replace the single-player experience; they're two different beasts. Bethesda has made great single-player RPGs for over a decade, and there are precious few companies making them at all anymore.
Really love that studio since FONV, possibly one of the best written games ever. Also one of the most immersive sprpg's I ever played.
You DO realize that New Vegas was not actually made by Zenimax? One of the reasons it was so good is an outside company actually made the game, using the Zenimax engine. Its true that it was produced BY Zenimax, as part of the arrangement, but the internal Zenimax team had nothing to do with it. THATS why is was so good.
As far as ESO, I really dont expect much at all; the first dev team hired from LOTRO has already been replaced witha new team, also Zenimax has no idea what their up against, they seem blissfully unaware of both player desires and the competition. They are hedging their bets on their name being able to make the game work.
Just want to throw it out there and I will be happy to take a warning for it.

But seriously. Tamriel is a great world, worth making persistant. Should be fun to explore. Hopefully it will be more of a freeform sandbox with lots to discover like the current games. No reason to assume that it wont do fine. Here is hoping the best for their project.
well lets see what type of game the make out of it. They have 3 options,
Option 1:
make it cheeply with the abused themepark model and they are garunteed a quick and easy profit. They could recoop all the developmental cost at launch and have roughly 3 months sub for profit margin. The downside to that is it it would be ANOTHER 90 day'er.
Option 2:
Make a sandbox game with diverse PVE options with some side PVP options. This option would yeild more $$$ over time than option 1, but its much harder to pull off.
Option 3:
Make a full sandbox PvP game, while that would please the fans that like that type of game, however that type of game never out profits option 1 or 2, because like every PVP sandbox game before it, the toxic community is detrimental to the games popularity.
I would like to see a strong PvE game with diverse end-game. We have not seen a game like that since FFXI. Themepark end-game is nothing close to a diverse end game, I am so sick of T1,T2,T3 raiding structure. Bring back diversity please.
Disclaimer: The above is MY OPINION, no need to flame me for it, if you prefer options 1 or 3 type of game.
Waiting for:EQ-Next, ArcheAge (not so much anymore) Now Playing: N/A Worst MMO: FFXIV Favorite MMO: FFXI
Well this should be interesting will there be raids and dailys like every other bad mmo game and will it be first person view 24/7 like EQ ? and if this is happening then i hope they make every past game continent so we can explore it all !
Had this launched early this year or was even slated for the middle of this year it might mean something for MMORPG's. Sadly ESO missed the boat to have much of an impact on the genre.
SWTOR - introduced a heavy story driven MMO.
GW2 - Introduces a new spin on questing and personal story as well as introducing a unique action centric combat system. 3 faction PvP as well.
TERA - Brings it's own traditional combat system with a twist.
The only way ESO makes a significant impact on MMORPG's is if it comes out as a sandbox.
The problem here is that it doesn't sound like they want to go the sandbox route, it looks more like they are shooting for the moon.
"The entire team is committed to creating the best MMO ever made – and one that is worthy of The Elder Scrolls franchise."
I'd rather not speculate what this means for MMORPG's because right now we don't know enough to say one way or another but so far, I'm not overly optimistic.
The entire franchise from day one has been about freedom of gameplay, exploration and story. All of which are conducive to sandbox or at worst sandpark. If they intend to honor the spirit of the franchise, then you can bet it will have at least a good portion of the game being sandbox, if not all of it.
Everytime I play an elderscrolls game I think about how much more fun it would be co-op. I don't know if they really had to make it a MMO, but that sounds great too... But I think that it would have been better as a co-op game. As a MMO, there is just too much extra junk to attach onto the game, and there is no way they will bring the same quality of sandbox and story elements as previous titles. But most of all, as a MMO there will be no modification community... Which in my opinion is what has given this series the drive that has made it wonderful. As a co-op game, elder scrolls could have retained its story elements, sandbox elements, and mod community. As a MMO, it is in serious danger of becoming a WoW-copy. We will have to wait of course :-) I've enjoyed all the single player elder scrolls titles but it would be unfair to expect a MMO of the same quality.

It's being made by THIRD PARTY....Bethesda isnt involved in its creation...thus it shall sucketh!
Nevermind the fact it's rumored to use same engine as SWTOR.
I'd sell both.
Pfft, f2p in 6 months.
Kidding, just kidding.

Excellent, they finally announced.
Announcement of a Elder Scrolls MMO is as epic as Blizzard saying,"Get ready for the World of Starcraft."
Haters gonna hate. Just dont fuck it up Zenimax.
