I haven't read much about it but can some kind soul give the breakdown on the game, pros and cons and overall feel for the game?

If it's not broken, you are not innovating.

    Pro:

Very exciting combat that require much more focus and skill compare to other mmorpgs.

    Epic graphics

PvP is really good with the combat

    Dungeons are very challenging

    Con:

Asian style grahpic (some people hate it)

Standard questing (depends if you give a shit about quests)

Story is really vague and doesn't pick up till 40+

For me I love this game because I have no problem with the standard themepark games but i hated the combat in other games. They were all so much more gear based, but in Tera while gears matter skill >  gear when your around the same lvl. And it generally makes everything more interesting because combat is 90% of what you do. But combat is also a double edge sword it seem as some people like the tab targetting, personally i can never go back to it.

I bought it two days ago without any research prior doing so. My highest character is so far a lvl 20 tank.

    Pro:

    - nice graphics

    - lots of different races and classes (especially some races that really look different, from the little fat pug-thing, to children, to humans, large fat guys and demons)

    - lots of people

    - no really annoying bugs (except that it crashed twice for me)

    - interesting abilities and customization options

    - fun combat, what with having to really doge and block and stuff

    - good character creation system (not new, but a good amount of options)

    Cons:

    - some stuff is so incredibly cute it's hard to bear (playing little girls in ruffles and bunny ears, or fat pugs or cats or what that is supposed to be)

    - asian art style (for some people it's a pro argument, but this is about my personal pro and cons)

    - cut scenes are in a low resolution

    - the first dungeon I was in was horrible in regards of loot distribution (in the end, people picked up anything they could, and couldnt trade it afterwards, resulting in noone having stuff they could need)

    - only one starting zone

    - your character will always have the same kind of weapon (ie lancer will always have a lance and shield)

    - most quests are "kill x of y", but since the combat is fun, that's acceptable

Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)

Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)

Ya i don't get it this like the only game where the game looks better than the cutscenes... its like wtf XD

Also thats not the game's issue, its your party leader's fault for not setting upt he right loot drop. the normal setting everyoen go with is round the robin, expection is rare or above for roll and class specific so if a lance drop only a lancer can roll for it and such. So not much of a con but more of player issue.

i just hit 15 today after playing it on and off for a few days, trying all the different characters and i have to say its pretty much just kill 10x wolves and grind grind grind. Sure the combat system is cool if you are not used to online action rpgs, but if you are like me who played the sh*t out of vindictus for a couple of months last year this kind of combat is not new at all and will not keep you from getting bored after a couple of hours. i really tried hard to like this game, i tried several different characters, ii played on and off for a couple of days, and i got to level 15.i know some people are going to say, "wait til level 20 or 30 or whatever, and it will get fun," but that is no excuse to make a person suffer for several days just to get their first glimpse of "fun."

Most memorable games: AoC(Tryanny PvP), RIFT, GW, GW2, Ragnarok Online, Aion, FFXI, FFXIV, Secret World, League of Legends (Silver II rank)

Just to comment on a couple of these.

    - lots of people

This unfortunately means lots of teenagers attracted by the bouncing... um you know.  Stay out of the general chat if you want to remain sane.

    - good character creation system (not new, but a good amount of options)

I thought the character creation was pretty poor actually.  No different body types.  You have some reasonable options for faces but hair styles are limited and all very similar, no sliders for eye colour/tatoos/eyebrows etc, instead you pick those pre-set and can't mix and match.  Very limited tatoos/jewelry options and so on.

And as for my own opinions,

    GAMEPLAY

    - Smooth graphics even on my old system.

    - Combat is good.  I recent tried GW2 beta and the combat in Tera is better than that.

    - Pretty world.

    - Latency effects combat quite a lot, especially pvp trying to dodge enemy attacks with 300 latency.

    - While we are on it, PvP is poor at the moment.  It seems to give higher level players the same bonuses in PvP as PvE, so a high level crits more vs. low level.  Even a couple of levels can make a difference.  Even level pvp seems ok I had some long battles with other players at low level (not attacking priests any more...).  To PvP you flag yourself as outlaw and can attack other players, you don't flag you can't attack unless they are flagged.

    - Story is ok but quests don't make a lot of sense.  E.g. kill the evil walking tree for killing pigs and while you are at it kill some pigs to test you combat vs. groups...

    - Crafting is a mess.  Leatherworking need a rare drop to even start levelling.  The gear you can craft is next to worthless and it's expensive.

    - Community is a bit immature for my likings.  General chat is full of trolls going over the same things over and over.

    - Elin... yes I know they are spirits or whatever but they look like little girls and the npcs Elin speak to you in a sexy adult voice... just wrong on so many levels.

    - Female character design takes some getting used to. I'm not a fan of characters wearing heels to fight and sitting side-saddle on mounts.

    - Can't swim underwater only across the survace of the water.

    - Gathering is slow and it can fail... multiple times in a row.

So overall it is a fun game.  If you can afford it, give it a try for a few weeks and see what you think.  It took me a few days to decide to buy it, but I wanted something new to try over my holidays so I bought it and I don't regret the purchase.

I was just at gamestop and I was almost ready to buy this game when a guy in there who plays it said, "You'll love this if you played Darksiders and WoW, it's a combination of both". I promptly took my card back from the cashier and walked out the door. I mean the visuals are pretty and the gameplay sounds "neat" although I play alot of action games and it's not that 100% impressive to me as it is refreshing, but I'm trying to see the value in the game at it's core. Quest system looks cheesy, limitation in world(can't go over ledge/invisible walls, no real depth of exploration too me, unless someone has info otherwise), and the Trinity System. I was sad when I saw "LFG tank OMG NEED TANK WTF WILL PAY FOR TANK" in a Tera video. I dunno. Anyone can comment on this further? I know the game just came out... But good graphics doesn't do it for me. It's mechanics, the stuff I do in the world, and how balanced PvP can be(especially with a Trinity System). I mean, I could just play Dragon's nest or RaiderZ since it's similar gameplay but F2P, even if some maybe instanced.

On a side note, the walking animations look like crap imo. the 4 point axis walking show now life in walking and the atk animations seem pre-rendered and locked in with no fluid motion. And you can't swim? Other than that it still looks pretty. I just don't wanna buy it, level to max level, find myself complaining about the same old stuff I tried to escape by not playing certain -not to name game to remain oblivious to their existence and traditional Q.Q-.

    Maskmurda,

If you are looking for a game to keep you occupied while waiting for gw2, don't buy this game. If I had to compare this game to anything it would be a mix of lineage 2, aion, and vindictus. If u like any of those games and aren't tired of them, then play tera. if you hate the trinity system and spending time looking to form a group then don't play this game.

    How is the PvP?

    Is PvP gear-centric?

    Is there instanced PvP?

Are there PvE servers and PvP pnes, or are all servers PvP?

    Thanks in advance.

I'm getting my copy Tuesday and can't decide if I want to go to a pvp or pve server. I love pvp but I want it more structured. I dislike this type of ganking. I don't mind being ganked but if the pvp servers are all about this, I'm just going pve and wait for the updates they were talking about incorporating.

Does anyone know if there is GVG in the pve servers yet? And does pvp not give xp? I read it didn't but wanted to confirm it because it was an older forum post.

Of course this game ain't the holy grail of MMORPGs. No current MMORPG is. And none that is soon to be released will be it either. There won't be a single one that might be much better than any other. There are so many MMORPGs out there, that there are lots of good and lots of bad ones.

People won't buy an MMORPG because it is much better than any other, because such a game won't be out any tmie soon. People will play an MMORPG, because they get enough entertainment out of the game to justify the cost.

I want to play it too.  I've PM'd a bunch of people who were disgusted that they bought this game, and that I will buy it off of them at a discount, but I haven't got a response so far.

I am up to lvl 33 on my priest and the game remains to be a fucking blast to play.  It deffinitly reminds me of Monster Hunter online. Its as much fun to heal and tank as it is to DPS

Level 1-20 is for people to get used to the combat, you know lot of people never play this type of game before and to them took them a long time to learn. Level 20 is where the fun starts because you get your first BAM and dungeon. And all mobs after 30 gets pretty hard with how much they god damn move -.- Also lvl 1-20 is like 6-8hrs not a a couple of days.... ofc you keep remaking anything gets boring -.-

Idk what your talking about but Tera has one of the smoothest animation, if your talking about the animation root thats how the combat works and i'm honestly not going in to it because its been talk to death.

mostly starter island and edege of maps have this limiting. I can climb over most mountains and jump off them and land with 1hp to go across zones.

Also I like the trinity system, it gives game player purpose. when you have no trinity system everyone is the, all class you play is pretty much DPS whats the point?

PvP is really balanced to be honestly, 1v1 any class can beat every class if the player is good enough. I as a tank lost to healers. And dragon nest combat has no weight behind your attacks, your pretty much flailing aorund a lot, as for raiderz goes as of now its way too unpolished for me to even play, i tried alpha in between Tera cbt and it hurts to play because i compare it to Tera nd it was just so not ready. Hopefully they get it fixed up but till than. Also both game are pretty much P2W.... so ya  lol.

Also thats the worest compareson i seen for Tera..... I say more of monster hunter cross with L2. If you love monster hunter or god eater burst you will love this game.

They said they are going to add GvG to PvE server but nothing yet. As far as ganking goes idk, personally i only got ganked like once but i'm pretty ahead in the lvling curve so i don't see much people. Personally GvG would be more fun if its structured because organized big fights more fun than random ganking BUT i love the fact that anything you do can turn in to a huge battle so i'm sticking to PvP server. If yoru willing to wait i'm sure EME going to add GvG to PvE and battle ground coming out soon too. Till tahn you can always do death matchs.

Death Match is like a portable battle ground, anyone can make a death match anywhere they want. up to 20 people can join for anything form 1v1 to 10v10 (doesn't have to be even but max is 10 on each side) and you can even bet money and item on your team as well. I love this system because it let people organize their own pvp outside of battlegrounds.

    Is PvP gear-centric?

Not really, it only matters when there is a lvl difference, if some one has next set of gear ofc its going to matter, just like level would. But since lvling is pretty fast cap in like 1-2 month if you play casually its not really an issue. When your on equal gear skill > gear in pvp.

    Is there instanced PvP?

Yes but not yet, as of now there is no battleground, it was really messed up in KTera so they took it out to rework it and will be back late summer.

Are there PvE servers and PvP pnes, or are all servers PvP?

Yes for the NA they split the server to PvP and PVE. Basically in PvP server you get a skill call declartion of outlaw that let you flag yourself and let you attack people out of safe zone. Also guilds can war each other, the wars are 24hrs long or whoever get to 2k points first (which is never because 1 kill = 1 point, leader = 10) No guild war in PvE but they already said they are working on adding it in for them.

    Thanks in advance.

I am not too keen on a combat/PvP game that doesn't give xp for PvP. I have heard it's very grindy and that extra xp would have been nice.

Lets not forget xp in PVP has not been around forever. The game is as grindy as WoW or STWOR. You do quests you get xp. Most of the dungen quests are repeatable so you can do 120k xp quest multiple times while you try for better gear at the time time. Lots of quests every one of them standard collect this and kill so many of those. But its not at all boring b/c he combat is so good. Besides you can always break up the grind by doing dungens / world boss's / help others kill bams.  There is no hand holding in this game.

Oh I do understand the XP being somewhat new, but even WoW put it in PvP back in like 3.2. Not a game changer, I just thought seeing how this game is pretty much structured with PvP in mind it would be part of the leveling experience.

Its not grindy at all o.o i mean even casual players can cap in 1-2 month, if you play like 8hrs a day you will cap in like 2 weeks tops so i don't see that as grindy as all compare to all the other korean mmorpgs i played.

really depends what your definition of "grindy" is.. is it anything as bad as lineage 2 or even aion? no way.. but to me doing the same over and over and over is grindy just depends how much you actual enjoy the combat I suppose...

    PROS:

    Graphics are especially good

Combat is very good, but it's a novelty that is easily overshadowed by the cons IMO

Polished, I havn't encountered one bug so far

    CONS:

Questing gameplay is extremely boring if you've played a lot of MMOs. I'm honestly having toruble finding the will to log on sometimes

Very little character customization compared to other games

Everyone pretty much looks the same, it's armor dependant (as in Light, Medium or heavy; a human warrior will look the same as human archer most of the time as they both wear medium armor)

I honestly wish I had bought Diablo 3 instead... but thats just me... it 'could' be the game for you.

I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.
