So I just bought this game...

Angier2758Angier2758 Member UncommonPosts: 1,026

Pretty much an impulse buy.. something about the monsters they showed.  I'm a long time mmorpg player, but haven't played anything since SWTOR in december...

So coming in hot; I'm going to pick the biggest pop server...

1) Any horrible class imbalance population wise?? (like 50% play archers, or slayers?)

2)  How's the pvp in reality?

3) Anyone have a nice guild on one of the over populated servers?

Hour left on my download.

aside from lack of lancers not much, but than again every game lacks tanks so thast pretty normal.

PvP is very nice with the combat, if you roll on PvP server its kinda like L2 system. You get a skill at lvl 11 that let you flag yourself and all you to kill other player but also be killed. Battleground will be added late su mmer (its brokene so they are fixing it) and guild wars are 24hrs long so thats very fun. On PvE as of now you only have duell and death matches which is like a portable battleground, you can host anywhere from 1v1 to 10v10 fights. (ofc PvP has it too)

    3) Anyone have a nice guild on one of the over populated servers?

The PvP server I think are most populated right now, Valley of Titan is the biggest server, follow by Jagged coast.

Slayers is the most popular class, PvP is fun but duels are not because collision doesnt work so a lot of melee abilities will go right through an enemy.  So if you play a melee class don't judge the pvp by using duels.

2 more questions? I just bought it and it should get to me tomorrow. First if I play the PvP server and don't have the pvp flag on I can freely pve without being griefed/ganked? Second, this isn't really a question but a concern, why would they release the game with a broken battleground? Sorry, I guess that was complaining but it reminds me of Funcom a bit. grrr. :O

You can still be killed without flagging yourself.  The flagging is becoming a red/pk.  Since I have been playing I have been ganked maybe 4 times.  Doesn't happen all the time, and I haven't been camped or griefed.

Thank you! I will find out in a few days myself then! :) I'm excited to play...thinking of Berserker for now. :)

Personally, I'm worried about the lack of lancers. There are plenty of warriors, but very few warriors are good enough to tank (yet). Leaving lancers as the only 'true' tank, and there aren't very many of them.

So my recommendation is to roll a lancer. I think I'm going to also. And then pray that they do something to make tanks a choice people want to make so that the content of the game isn't hidden from you because of the lack of tanks.

Thus the trinity system drama continues! I really hate tanking and healing and I'm not flaming Tera, but the system needs to be stamped out. Perhaps benefits to the two classes could be incorporated. More than likely right now no one wants to tank because the dungeons are unfamiliar, it's hard to do not knowing them. Is tanking/lancer a viable class one on one pvp?

You will start off in the new player island, and for the first 11 levels be safe from any PVP.  (as far as I know)  I recommend you play 2 or 3 similar classes up to level 11 (takes about 2-4 hours for each) and get a feel for what you like best.

For example, if you try a Zerker, consider rolling a Lancer and Slayer as well.  All 3 melee carry large weapons, either block or dodge and you might find one preferable to another.  (Warriors are a horse of a different color really)

    Welcome to TERA.

Well tanking and healing in Tera is VERY different from most game. Ironiclly not so much lack of healer but lack of lancer. Also lancers are very viable in pvp. Their job in group fight is to shut down a player or protect healer. Lancer are also very good in 1v1. However lancer is a VERY hard class to PvP with, so mastering it will take lot of effort.

    Lancer lancer lancer.

Only efficient tank in the game and there's a major lack of them.

    Lancer!

Well I will give lancer a try I gues...I hate tanking but it might be fun to be in demand! I want stuff!!! :) Once GW2 comes out though I'm never looking back at a trinity based game (unless this hooks me)! image

I hate none trinity games, personally i think the best system is a mix of trinity and none trinity. Basically i guess what TSW sounds like, you have the trinity system of tank/dps/support. BUT you can mix and match if you want to. So if you want to be best tank you go put tank like traditional game but if you want you can maix tank/dps bit up you won't excel in both. Problem with lack of trinity system is lack of roll, w/o it your character has no purpose, the meaning of different classes loss half their meaning, all class are dps thats everyone does lack roll and some stratgey for me.

I mean look at LoL even that has a some what of a trinity system of tank/support/dmg

I am afraid TSW will fall into the same trinity trap as all others. People will only compose parties of tank/dps/healers, but its yet to be seen.

Lol has in no way anything similar to the tank/dps/healer system of mmos. The tank playes a completely different roll and the supports are usually more about cc, disables and buffs than about healing.

Not the same but there is still a trinithy system that give each class a roll. To me trinity system is having set troll of of tank/dps/support doesn't have to do the same thing as other game but have that roll to give people purpose in a party rather than everyone all out dps. I don't follow TSW but from what i heard is thats kinda going in the right direction, by allowing player access to a skill they can build what they want. Again i like having the trinity roll but i think player should get to choice to be pure tank, dps/tank, support/tank as their tank or full dps, dps/support, tanky dps and so on. the trinity is there but more varity. Problem is to balance its out so all of them are equally good which is very hard to do.
