I don't know if people consider them MMORPGs. The worlds seem massive, they are multiplayer, they are online and they are RPGs. For me personally, I think of MUDs as MMORPGs.
They're related. MUDs miss out on the "Massive" though, with nightly player bases measured (at best) in the thousands.
Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.

I'm not a fan of any MMORPG, yet have played many and left all dissatisfied.
Every MMO/game has lacked the quality I seek, and thus I state my opinions and views on those games as blunt and honest as possible.
