TERA's Art Style...

BeastnBeastn Member UncommonPosts: 111

So my brother insisted on me playing this game with him, tells me how great the action combat is and how great the graphics are and all of that. So I've been giving it a go and have only run into one problem, one I thought at first was small, but as it turns out is not. The art style, more specifically the armor or rather lack thereof. And before you jump to the conclusion that i'm referring to TEARA's over sexualization of the female characters let me assure you I am not. Im actually talking about the male characters. My first toon is a Aman (i think thats how its spelled) Slayer. Class is alot of fun and I've able to look past the fact that I'm basically totally nude (although I have no genatles it seems, maybe they are like aligators with everything inside? eww). Does the Slayers armor ever get any better? I don't want to look like A Dinosaur Male stripper at end game. The look of my toon is very important to me and I'm finding myself wanting to quit this toon and start somthing else purely based on his look (i know that sounds dumb)

Because SCALE does matter. Aman knows this.
Especially for Amans. It's all the Armor they really need. Sadly Elfen and Human Woman would just explode if they would be walking just SCALED UP.

So Aman has to do what a man has to do. Equip clothes.

On a sidenote there are various Female Aman "Armors" who do not cover up anything, no pants at all. But what is there to cover at all, just scales :)

Here's a pic of and Endgame "light" armor (slayers wear light)

Speaking as a female, I AM offended by the total lack of clothing on the female characters.  It is as if a bunch of teenaged boys programed the whole game.  I'm done playing it--nothing distinguishes it from every other mmo out there, the targeting is nice, but not enough to keep me playing.  Esp with TSW Beta starting up.

    wha wha wha????

You can mod the appearance, KEKEKE?

I am not talking about modifiying the appearance or not. I am pointing out the lack of protection of these armors because you gave us some lore bs about Aman. Im wondering what is the lore equivalent for Castanics needing to show their chests.....

Proving my point, it all comes down to art style and how Koreans don't really like to clothe their characters.

Speaking as a gamer, your taste in gameplay offends me. If the combat engine, which is the main aspect of a game, is not enough to sway you... Ugh.

By the way, when I got a chance to play TSW, my toon was running around in a cutoff halter top with hot pants. So good luck with that.

The higher level you go the more ARMORED you'll look.

Then again females usually gain more sex appeal from gear in Tera, while males tend to get bulkier.

Although I like it sexy o/

Depends on the class/race combination. A lot of the sexier female models definitely sway to the side of less coverage, even in high level gear. Most of the male models, and some of the female models (ie female Aman Lancer) do bulk up considerably though.

Why "Lore BS"? If i had a scale hard and long and strong enou......eh wait.

I mean if my SCALE is BIG ....waaaiit that sound wrong too,

Anyway if AMAN are Covered in SCALES which offer enough protection, why is it BS for them to wear "less"?

This is a high fantasy game, you know, MAGIC. I'd wager it does make ANY sense to wear armor at all.
So since Armor is not functional but only about looks why not look good in it, a----nd castanics just are fashion mayhems.

Or do you seriously expect platearmor to protect you from magic blood boiling? *clonk*
But anyway, dirty little koreans yes? I bet these are not HORNS but HANDLEBARS, right?, RIGHT?

Besides the official lore for Female castanics and Humans wearing almost nothing is because elins stole their pants.

fantasy armor mechanic  for female = less coverage = more portection. However in tere its partly applyed to castanic male as well =X

I really like the art style.  It's different, which is nice, the graphics are great, and everything fits together to create a new kind of MMO world to get immersed in.

Closest similiar MMO I can come up with is FFXI, although TERA is way looser with the absurd, but hey, why not, it's a video game.

I disagree with people that compare it to Aion style-wise.  Aion's graphics, despite what many said, were really awful unless it was just a closeup of your character.  And it's style was just drab and it just didn't fit as a complete fantasy world like TERA does.

Ha! close to FFXI, not really...I agree with the folks who say its very similar to Aion and also B&S. The only korean mmo coming out soon that I think looks different is AA. That has a very medieval vibe.

BTW, have you played Aion? Even the music has the same vibe, it also had the barely wearing anything armors.

Yes AA is looking extremely good and the art design looks more western than you think from a korean game. The art design will be a good advantage here instead of a scare factor like in Tera.

Yeah I did play Aion.  I don't get the same vibe at all from TERA other than there's brighter colors than you normally see.

Music seems really well done in TERA.  I don't remember being impressed with Aion.

The reason I compare it to FFXI is because it's a complete world onto itself, with seriousness intertwined with silliness.  Aion's world was just a mesh of crap to me all thrown together without much talented oversight.

    Just for perspective:

He's wearing less gear than any Aman slayer, and in my opinion couldn't look badder.

Pfft cause bikinis are completly bigfoot resistant right? Tsw is just a sexist just more realistic about it. Honestly i was really really excited about TSW... then i realised it was done by EA games. I want to love it it truely do but nothing good comes from that company.
