I've been looking for a while for a good MMORPG to play. I used to play Ultima Online but since then iv'e looked a a bunch of em. The two that caught my eye were MxO and Guild wars. Gw is a fun game and i'm getting it for sure but MxO 'looks' very cool. I haven't played it but im hoping to get a key for tommorow although I get home at 4 in the afternoon, hope I can still get one. I haven't played the game so from experience from someone who has, does the game stack up with GW if uv'e played that? if u haven't, is the game really what it says it is? Does it have in depth storyline that you actually feel like you are in the story? Thats the part that interests me. Or is it just a matrix world with you slapped in the middle and some matrix 'elements'? Do you think this game will be good at the release or should I wait to get it? or no get it at all? Any help is appreciated.

It's quite sad that a Matrix based title could possibly loose to another fantasy emerging from almost nothing- Guild Wars is fine material compared to MxO. Let me start with my standard overview of MxO:
Combat- Nothing to it. There is absolutely no strategy, skill whatsoever within this combat system. It's all about the clothes you are wearing ; buffed clothes I mean- and you thought the Matrix was about fashion...the buffed clothes are always the ugly ones- and everyone is walking around in them.
Ah but I cannot finish this overview. I'm still paying $60 to get MxO to my house on day one (day -3 actually). The more I complain, the more I will wish I never bought it. No regret in my life, no regret

Snap. Some people, including the insane MXOTbone think Im just dissing the game. Which isn't true at all. I just can't make any comments about it on the offical site otherwise I get warned by the mods and all the fanboys jump on my head. At least here people are willing to discuss it.
donwloaded the stress test yesterday.
These are my first impressions (i'l post a more indepth review when i've played longer):
1. General feel - introduction is very good. Once you join the game world proper i was a bit disappointed with the visual impact (btw i am running the game on max everything)- the city styling didn't grab me. Lag when there are multiple (from 4) players around.
2. Strikes me as a solo game. Can you even fight two mobs at the same time?
3. Like the mission system (you call your agent)- the system that guides you to a mission target didn't always work in my experience. IMO although the mission system is very streamlined i'm not sure its the best way of immersing a player in the game.
4. Combat - animations are great. Very unsure about the melee combat system though. Now i hate the usual mmorpg combat system and while this is different I didn't feel in control when implementing my attacks. Gun combat is lame.
I won't draw a conclusion yet because i simply haven't played it enough to have a final opinion.
IMHO, this is a game that I would wait to get. Let the official release come and go and then come back and read the forums. Not the official ones because I always find "official" forums to be far too biased.
Now because I'm such a huge fan of the Matrix (have just about anything you can think of from the movies) I preordered the game but I too wish I hadn't.
Beta tester supreme
I've been in the beta for over a month now. The first week was great, discovering all the different features. Now that the new has worn off, I'm kind of disallusioned with it. You end up doing the same types of missions over and over again. All the mobs you fight look similar and only have a limited variety of fighting style. The crafting was fun until they nerfed it so that you could only crft items that you had sucessfully decompiled. There is no in-game email system and the in-game market is clogged with extremely overpriced items.
It they waited a couple more months to fix the long list of bugs and add many needed features, it has the potential to be a great great. Instead its going to be released later this month, warts and all. SO, those that buy it on release are going to be paying to help finish the incomplete beta-test.
QA Server anyone?
Here is my review of MxO. I posted this on another site which is not exclusivley for MMOs like mmorpg.com. So keep that in mind when reading this. I didn't see the need to edit the review to cater to an experienced MMO community:
Most of the reviews I have read for MxO have been ignorant and un-informed. In my review I will talk about the game as an MMO, subscription fees, graphics, gameplay, lore, other beta reviews and it's current status in beta (in no specific order).
First and foremost, this game is an MMO. As with any MMO you have to pay a monthly fee and the new standard of the latest released MMOs is $15 per month. So you are not getting ripped off with the monthly subscription fee. Unlike non-MMO games, MMOs are persistent world games that are on servers housed in Data Centers with multiple Back-Bones supported by Developers, Customer Service Reps and several partnering companies. In addition, MMOs are in constant development to fix bugs, add content and expansions and improve the game. All these things I listed above require money for the duration of the game, not just up to release. Thus the need for the continuing source of revenue. So stop complaining about this. You obviously haven't played in the MMO genre if you use your pointless argument that the subscription fee is a rip-off.
Next thing, THIS GAME IS STILL IN BETA. It is still being worked on everyday to get out bugs, fix stability and increase performance. All the core systems are in place and working. At this point everything being done is to polish the game for release. On top of that, there are BETA servers and a QA server. The Beta servers are where the majority of Beta players play the game. The QA server is a test server with the absolute latest code. Those who currently play on the QA server (myself included) are very happy with the progess of the game and feel it is ready for release on March 22nd. The Beta servers currently have bugs that have been fixed on the QA server but have not been patched yet up to the Beta server.
There has been a huge influx of new beta players in the last month to help with stress testing the server load, bandwidth and performance of the game to simulate post-release numbers (but just on a few servers). The problem with all these new beta accounts is the people getting them are not treating the game like a Beta. First, the screening process to get in the stress test is very minimal as opposed to the first Beta players. So instead of getting high quality testers who understand the game is in Beta, you get many immature people who don't bother reporting bugs and instead use their beta account as an opportunity to just play the game for fun (which is not the point of Beta). Most of whom have never played an MMO and therefore don't know the genre and have a very uninformed opinion. The point of my whole rant is to disregard the opinions of immature baseless reviews.
As for my opinion on the game, I am really liking the product. I have been playing MMOs since 1999 and it's my favorite genre of game. The Matrix Online (MxO) has some new dynamics and systems for an MMO game that make it appealing to me. These include but are not limited to the interlock and free-fire fighting systems, ability to gain all skills (which essentially gets rid of class-types), huge strategy options when customizing your character by skill and equipment selection, continously moving story-line/lore that will work with the faction and missions systems (this was sorta of done in AC1, but not to this degree), etc.
As I said way above, the current status of the client on the QA server is very good. Any remaining bugs that I have experienced are minor and will get patched. However, like ALL MMOs, there will always be bugs and none of them are perfect. I feel the game is ready for a March 22nd release.
On a final note, I personally will play this game because I enjoy the lore of the game based on the Movies (which I was a fan of). Continuity is very high from the Movies to the game because of the lore, graphics and gameplay systems. I also really like the ability to solo in the game. A solo'er can not only make progress in the game, but also get plenty of items, experience and money and not fall behind those who choose to group exclusively. I feel like I can login for a couple hours (which is usually all the time I have) and make significant progress without having to LFG, wait for group members or travel across a ton of landscape. These X-factors have made the MxO a very pleasant surpise and I recommend it to fans of the MMO genre.
See you in game (or not),

If you think the game is in good shape on the QA server, you chould have a look at the current build (7.3007). Both the vendor interface and the elevator interface are broken, greatly limiting what can be done until they fix it! Oh, and the mob loot tables aren't working either.
Obviously, these will be fixed before release, but it appears to me that the poor programmers have been worked to exhaustion and are now creating as many bugs as they are fixing.
And this is why I'm not "beta testing" MxO. Because they're using their beta test as a publicity stunt. OF COURSE they're not attracting experienced beta testers. They're offering beta accounts for pre-ordering the game, for chrissakes. They're offering special in-game abilities for pre-ordering the game. They're attracting retards, and they're doing it intentionally. So include that in your list of problems the game suffers from.
They are more interested in building hype around this game than they are interested in making sure it's releaseworthy later this month.
You say that the server(s) running the latest code are better than the servers most here are complaining about, and I'll take your word for that. But the very fact that there's such a disparity suggests to me that they don't quite have their act together, and are jumping the gun somewhat by releasing so soon from now.
Obviously their first priority is currently drawing pre-order sales so they have impressive numbers to give to the companies that will want to lease ad-space in the game world. The fact that they're augmenting their income with in-game ads, in my opinion, means that the $15 a month subscription might very well be a ripoff. If they have another source of income to maintain the servers and bandwidth, I would expect them to charge no more than $12. That may only be a $3 on my end, but it's a difference of however many hundreds of thousands of dollars on their end.
These are unscrupulous activities for game developers to be engaged in, and such things make me (at least) wonder how much they really care about the quality of my gaming experience, as opposed to their fat sacks of cash money.

Hey, they did it in WoW. they make millions each MONTH and they still have no content for it and are filling their fat sacks, and look how well that game is doing.
