Does a single one of the frothing at the mouth, EA fanboi's even once consider the monumental COST this game was to develop, the time spent on it, the effort and (prob, not sure) cost it took to take down SWG(I'm pretty certian there was a lot of legal fee's to spit up for that)?
Or how about that its EA with a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE vault to pull cash out of to 'feed' any failing game if they feel putting it on life support now can later result in a profit?
At this point, given all teh above, I highly DOUBT SWTOR is profitable. I actually feel, with the reports like this, that they are trying, very hard, to get people INTO thier game to help pay the bills. IE the free subs, u see more ppl, you are more inclined to bring friends, etc.
No, SWTOR hasn't failed, but I think, considering the costs to keep this online, they SHOULD have marketed and sold it as a stand alone single player game with multiplayer options. (Or even a lobby game like diablo was, allow people to play online with the ability to join others in thier story)
The problem EA face is that 'casual' players, including those attracted to the game because of the IP, will burn through the content and then leave. And there is no way that EA are going to be able to keep up with the content needed; they were working on patch 1.5 - scheduled for next year - last September. Even Blizzard have said that they are struggling to keep up and they don't have the added complication of voice acting. (Maybe EA should drop the voice overs?)
So you have the 'hard core' players - whatever they are! Presumably these are people who would play SWTOR as an mmo regardless of the IP and subscribe for many months. The trouble here is lots of other games are also competing for these people - including GW2.
Indeed given the 'solo' nature of SWTOR even games like D3 are competing.
All that EA have left is hardcore mmo SWTOR fans - the ones who carried on playing SWG and didn't move to Clone Wars! And there weren't many of them at the end. And there is no guarantee that they would be impressed by SWTOR either.
now i know this guys are just trolling the players. after they say that SW are not priority in terms of development now the fault is not them but the casual players???? hahahahhahahah
they dont have any clue what a good MMORPG need, but i must admit they are awesome trolling players
they have to blame some1 else (ea surely cant admit to leechin resourses away frm sw:tor to make it "fail" can they? )
wonder how long itll take b4 they start blaming lack of resourses as well or the hardcore players
after all tht what they did w enb in the end "not enough resourses" to do anything(n just prior to shutdown they made a really "generous" offer of 1 free mnth in uo or tso tht wus runnin thn(guess they still avnt learnt tht scifi theme and fantasy cater 2 mostly diffrent groups of players)
"And as the service evolves from here, what we're seeing is that some of the initial hardcore customers have gone through a billing cycle and decided not to subscribe to the game."
sounds more realistic -- the *hardcore* players are not sticking around heh
I guess I don't understand what casual means. I would define myself as a casual gamer because I don't have the time to dedicate to gaming...I wish I could but my career and family life demand other wise. I still get in a good 15+ a week with my major play time being over the weekend. When school's out I can get to play even more. I wouldn't say that I jump from game to game unless I can't find something I enjoy.
The fact that I'm a casual gamer isn't why I left SWTOR. I even stayed longer than I wanted to in a vain attempt to TRY to like SWTOR. I wanted to play in the Star Wars world but it just wasn't fun....don't get me wrong I enjoyed the story but I had to so many other blah quests to be able to continue on in my story quests. I loved the companion characters and the legacy system is really very neat. Unfortunately those things alone does not a great MMO make.
While the voice acting was great it actually got annoying on the smaller side quests. It was a pain to wait for it to load to only have an NPC say "Thanks!" Honestly they should have only voiced the story and companion quests or something and left all the other voice acting to ambient dialoge. I dunno just throwing it out there.
Also the fact that I could be on a planet with only 2 other people for HOURS at a time didn't help. The world felt empty and void.
Those are the reasons I left, not because I'm a 'wish I could be hardcore but life demands that I be casual' gamer.
