Little touches that you liked?

pharazonicpharazonic Member Posts: 860

What are some of the little, inconsequential things that you enjoyed about this game? It may be a quality of life feature, an aesthetic feature - whatever!

For me, I really like how the character model's feet would react to terrain. I've seen things head tracking in MMOs, but this is an uncommon yet cool little touch.

I also liked that that there was a "Hide Shoulderpads" option. While I won't use it in any hurry, I am sure there are people who aren't fond of shoulderpads in fantasy MMOs. It's a really neat feature that people ask for in every MMO.

So what are some small things that you really enjoyed? :)

I need to take this advice more.

I liked that every single tombstone in the graveyard near Shaemoor had an epithet.  And sometimes they were pretty funny, with epithets in the vein of:

    "Here lies Fred.

    Sick on Monday.

    On Tuesday, dead.

Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob?

Id based friend list and guild roster.

    Also loved Mail is instant.

Loved so much more...too much to list.

My favorite thing is how the NPCs actually have routines. I always wanted something like this in an MMO but most games just have NPCs as window dressing and only make quest givers relevent and even then, most are static.

It makes the game feel like a living world, something that MMOs have been missing for a long time.

I like this thread.  Unique topic here.

I didn't play the Beta, waiting to play a finished product.

Its good to hear what you guys noticed in it though.

The dye system - allowing large amount of customization of dying parts of the armor while having unlimited dye usage when you unlock the color just stole an hour of my time in the previous beta. From blue/green to red/brown to green/brown to grey/white - I can safely say that I felt unique even in my low level armor.

Honestly, I loved all the hidden areas / puzzles / events scattered all around the world. Even just exploring the cities was amazing, as there was soo many hidden little things to find.

Also, I enjoyed ending the dreams of many adventurer's with a single arrow to the knee.

The 2 things that really stuck out to me (among many but I'll just list 2)..were the hidden puzzle areas...and the fact that this is the first MMO I've ever played where the UI seems to have been given as much love and attention as the game itself..instead of feeling like it was thrown together 3 weeks prior to launch to fulfill its role.

It's hard to over-estimate the coolness of this.

    1. I'm standing around on a road looking for something to do.

    2. An unmarked NPC goes jogging past.

    3. I know something's up.

Bang.  Immersion.  I'm watching the screen instead of a quest tracker.

Being able to direct list to the marketplace from anywhere else in game is going to be one of my favorite things, even though I didn't even try it last BWE.

    Charr: Outta my way.
    Human: What's your problem?
    Charr: Your thin skin.

I'm going to have to second the graveatone...I was completly amazed that they were all individually inscribed.

I loved the NPC running up to me in the crafting area and explaining crafting.

There were these little Charr kids running around this one camp, and when they went by a grownup, the adult said, "Hey, slow down!"

I got an attitude with one of the speed buff guys, and he wouldn't buff me anymore. :D

    Too many to list.

I love all the elements of the game that contribute towards making the world feel organic and alive. From Dynamic Events and the way you can follow some NPCs through a chain of events; to the massive, detailed, realistic cities; to the converstations you can over hear between NPCs in the game world. There is just so much attention to detail.

You can even talk to a number of NPCs, find out some useful information and occassionally even trigger an event through your curiosity. You can go through the game with out talking to any of them and still have a full, fun play experience, but the extra detail is there for those who want it. :)

    Oh god.

That line is pretty cheesy as it is, hearing it 20 times in a match got sooo annoying. I really hope they change that.

There is hide shoulderpads option? OMG YES!

right click > join friend in pvp. be instantly ported to the game!

Rolling games with the same team/opponents until you quit

BGs carrying on after the win until the next match is ready, so you can get the final blow (or be killed) by the guy you were fighting.

The presence of children, pets and the depth of NPC activity and NPC to NPC dialogue was just crazy. You could pick up useful, amusing or interesting information just by loitering in various places.

When the level of detail changes on an object it does not pop in the new texture or model, it paints it in with little brush strokes.

    That was EPIC! :D

Ok Im in love with Anet

The amount of awesomeness they put in the game is too damn high ! :D

I think I actually spent way more time reading and theorycrafting about MMOs than playing them

The diving board near LA was just amazing to me.   Really showed me that Anet are going all out with the details.  Some other things I loved:

NPCs "living" their lives all around you and you can decide whether or not to be a part of that.

Those tombstone inscriptions that Creslin described were great!  (although, Creslin, I think you mean epitaph, lol - epithets are slurs)

And....one of my Mystic chests gave me a tonic that turned me into a snake.  That was cool enough, but then I noticed two things - 1) my camera shifted to a "snake level" view and 2) NPCs reacted to my presence in different ways....some would say "ewww", some said something to the effect of "wow!" and quite a few moved to avoid me.  That really showed how much attention to detail there really is!

You want me to pay to play a game I already paid for???

    Be afraid.....The dragons are HERE!

  • Here is something from GW1  Ifind really amusing:

If your party uses the /dance emote before engaging Abaddon he will perform some warrior dance moves before slaying your entire party with the message "You got served!". Every human party member must use the dance emote for this to work. The emote /dancenew does not trigger the effect.

Abaddon being the final boss of the 3rd expanion.

I am sure there will be tons of things like this in GW2.

Yeah when I found the diving board with the goggles that let you do flips and twists in the air I was amazed.  I was also pretty impressed that lion's arch had an entire unwater section with homes you can swim through.

I also like the cow racing that you could bet on.

(stalks off to throw a tempertantrum and fall asleep).

childish impatience aside, the core features of a game make it good. but it's the little things that make a game truly great.
