10 days free play time from 10th of May to the 21st of May.
Now I haven't played FFXIV in a long time. I always kind of regretted buying it (not as much as TOR) so I am curious to see if I can get something out of it.
It claims to have undergone "vast changes" since launch. Is this the case? Can this game build a stable fanbase and is it ready to finally "launch"?
What do you all think?

from what i have heard from other players a few months back is very little except daily misions? i would like to know as well so i hope a current player can let us know if its worth re-installing
Playing: FFXIV
Future: wishing for SWG 2, World of Warcraft Classic
Played: Most current and extinct MMO's - 18 Years in....
Interesting Fact - I own 27 Tarantula's
The game has gone through quite a few changes. However it's still not where it needs to be.
As a F2P game it would be decent (great graphics, but shoddy gameplay). However, they have been charging a subscription for the game, and the 10 days trial is an attempt to get more people paying. The game may be pretty, but it's pretty much still a pile of garbage.
It has a very small, but loyal fanbase who still defend it to the death, though. So be careful about who you listen to. FF fans tend to be extremely vocal. If it doesn't look like they are trying to pull a fast one on your credit card, go ahead and give the game a shot. It is a beautiful game. There's just not a whole lot else to it =/.
It's true it has undergone vast changes. For example, they added auto-attack, revamped the mage classes (aka they actually work and one does dmg the other heals). They got rid of "main level" and just use the level of your current class. They added some content, an ifrit fight, NM's, advanced jobs (PLD, BRD, BLM, WHM, DRG, MNK).
Bassically, at level 30, your regular classes, like PUG, THM, CNJ, WAR, etc. get a quest to advance to MNK, BLM, WHM, PLD, etc.
Crafting was revamped so you don't need 20 other materials from other crafts to make one tunic, at max you will need 1-2 other materials. They also redid how dyes work, so you don't need taupe dye for litterally everything...
The leves were redone, so if you don't play for a few days you'll be able to do 20-30 leves (they build up really fast). Also the leve stars actually mean something now, ie 1 star = lvl 10, 3 stars = lvl 19, 5 stars = 25. And the leve monsters don't 2 shot you anymore. And they added more leves (I think there are NM leves too).
Also the community has gotten nice like FFXI's. Very helpful, easy to party with (around the 30's you start partying to lvl).
I say try it out. It's not very themeparkish...

Im so tempted to try it again....
DAMMIT IM INSTALLING!!
only thing they shouldn't have changed it was the craft they did....
Its so conflicting...
I will reinstall it tonight I think!
No harm in taking a look, since Aion went FTP I have been without an MMO and I am 'shopping around' so to speak. I am curious if this game can finally entertain me for a few days.
I quit last time (when there was no sub fee) after only a couple of hours! It just played so much like a console port.

This is only for people who have bought it? I wanna try the game again but definately don't want to buy a copy.
Yes, this is for those who already have characters in the game. It's an invitation to see the changes that have been made so far. It's not an open invitation to anyone because it's not ready for new players yet, although you shouldn't let that stop you if you have any interest in the game and can find it for $10 somewhere.
As for whether it's good... it's in the eye of the beholder. Although you can solo in it, it's very party orientated. There are things to do (although it needs more), but the game will not necessarily lead you to all of them. It's helpful to group up with a knowledgable player who can show you around (unless you are like me, who likes to figure these sorts of things out on her own ).
It's not, and I repeat, not like wow. FFXIV has a very old-school feel to it. If dungeon hopping is what you like to do, chances are you won't like this game at this time. In the future, a LFG of some sort is in the works, but it's yet to be explained on how it will work exactly.
Like anything, you don't know if you will like something until you try it for yourself.
