A few Questions

jimmydatwinjimmydatwin Member UncommonPosts: 68

Hi all I've already talked myself into buying this and I am just posting here with a few questions pretending I don't know yet (first step is admitting it).  Anyway couple questions are:

1.  How does it play on a gamepad?  I loved EQOA for the simple reason I could kick back and play on my couch with a gamepad.

2.  How does the community seem?  Is grouping as plentiful as I hear?  Are the PvP servers 90% full of ganking 12 year olds? I know its early still, just curious as to first impressions.

3.  How busy do the servers seem?  Is it like some games where server says full, but you never see anyone or is it alive and booming with people.

4.  How open are zones?  Are they your typical follow the road between the mountains until you run out of quest hubs and are in the next zone?  Can you cross zones anywhere or only at certain points?

5.  Anything that really makes you love or hate this game?

I would love to sort through all the posts and try and get these answers, but I am at work and can't bring myself to do it on my blackberry.

Thanks in advance for all your input.

    1.  How does it play on a gamepad?  I loved EQOA for the simple reason I could kick back and play on my couch with a gamepad.

*You can use a PS3 or Xbox 360 wireless controller. I used the xbox 360 controller at Pax east and it worked just fine without any problems. The ui and keybindings were easy to understand as well. My friends have no issues playing Tera with it.

    2.  How does the community seem?  Is grouping as plentiful as I hear?  Are the PvP servers 90% full of ganking 12 year olds? I know its early still, just curious as to first impressions.

*This depends on your server, and it also depends on what you consider to be a good community. I am on the Dragonfall server and from my experience its not that bad at all. Sure there will be some immature talks now and again however most people are extremely helpful and very nice. I imagine that the pvp servers might have worse communites. However I suggest if this bothers you to simply click over to party chat and enable everything but area chat.

    3.  How busy do the servers seem?  Is it like some games where server says full, but you never see anyone or is it alive and booming with people.

*My server Dragonfall is extremely busy, and i mean all the time. newbie area is always full of players trying out new classes, and there is a very healthy population of characters in every province.  This is during prime time and also during off peak hours.

    4.  How open are zones?  Are they your typical follow the road between the mountains until you run out of quest hubs and are in the next zone?  Can you cross zones anywhere or only at certain points?

*There are quest hubs and there is a path they suggest you follow. However, you DO NOT have to follow the red path they have for you. There are points where you can cross into each zone by quest progression. There are MULTIPLE entrances and exits into every province. The provinces all feel unique and are fairly large to give you that illusion of a huge world.

    5.  Anything that really makes you love or hate this game?

*There are a few things that I don't like about the game, I will focus on that since I think that this game has way more pros then cons.

    1. I hate the crafting system in this game, I think it needs to be re-worked. SWTOR had a better crafting system and so did WoW.

    2. I do not like how sometimes we are not properly notified when a server is coming down.

    3. Not a fan of the enchanting system, the fact that you sacrifice a weapon and it must be in the same tier is annoying.

    4. I cannot stand the fact that higher levels running lower level dungeons severely restrict item drop ratios. I understand why they do this, but it still irritates me.

Most of the problems I have are really nit picking, the game overall is wonderfull and most players I talk to in and out of the game have trouble putting it down. I think if players give it a chance they can see how great it is, from aesthetics to game mechanics.
