My progress with TERA.

So i'm still playing and issues I have.

1) The combat is fun, but the quests are so, SO boring. i pretty much go on autopilot now, same attack strategy to kill all the mobs. At first I was like ' I can dodge, do this and then this' But now I realise it's just way more efficient to run the same routine every time. The balance of fun combat with kill 10 of x is beginning to weigh on me

2) Pvp - Still seems clunky, although I do need more practice. I was ganked a few times by higher levels, and even a 4 level difference meant I was taking alot of damage whilst hardly doing any. I ganked some even level warrior (he wasn't on a mob, so i didn't feel that bad and he was full health), beat him, but that was it. I didnt get a reward, all I did was just send him back to the nearest town. Seemed a bit of a waste of time. After that I found no reason to fight anyone. But because of channels you can pretty much avoid opvp. It's lik ebetaing someone in a duel, you get a bit of elation, but that quickly fades and you're like hmm..i spent 40 mins duelling and have nothing to show for it, I should have been levelling.

3) The main city. I'm on the busy pvp server. Saw the city for the first time and I was like .....meh.... It was nice flying in, but once you run around it's just....it's bland. It's not a city of a 2012 mmo. I saw the main city in gw2, and that FAR outweighs this one. I was really dissapointed.

4) Crafting - so dull...........

I don't see what it has long term to offer the western gamer.

Simply put the game is not for you if this is what you see when you play it. Through all those betaweekends, closed beta, open beta and head start you should have tried the game and saw this. Sorry but there is just nonthing else to say here.

its just not for you then. gets has got something that's drawn in quite a crowd. I personally enjoy it. I guess one man's food is another man's poison

    I agree.

They gave literally everyone ample time to try before you buy. Everything you just said should have been figured out during the basically free to try time.

I totally agree with you OP :)

Or as usually another man's veiled attempt to pimp GW2.

Yea, I noticed that too. LOL

The city is pretty dull actually, agree with the OP, nice post.

Remember... all I'm offering is the truth. Nothing more.

Teekay, please choose your words wisely.

You are right with many things you say (I looked through some of your threads), however try to avoid the whole TERA vs GW2 thing. You should try to find a big guild in TERA, since grouping is important for PvP and PvE in this game.

Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don't need.

    Pretty much how I feel.

The OP has posted COUNTLESS times his dissatisfaction with Tera, yet continued to play. Every comment was negative, some points were valid, others were whimsical and insulting to other forum members. And now here we are, with a "negative review". Why am I not surprised?

OP, did you think at some magical point the game was going to win you over? I think not.

Tera, to me, is one big hack-n-slash. Great combat system, with the standard questing system in place. I only paid attention to the main storyline, which starts off BORING, but picks up at lvl 30+. Can you name the heroes in the campaign? Can you name which characters are in conflict with each other? If you are NOT into quests and paying attention to story lines, then it is not for you. It isn't an award-winning story plot, but its enjoyable for what it is.

I went into the game expecting nothing and hating its art direction. I still hate the art direction, but the combat/PVP is quite enjoyable FOR NOW.

Will it hold me for the long run? Probably not, but I got my entertainment's worth from the first month alone. I've paid more for console games which I "beat" faster. The high level dungeons are QUITE difficult and challenging, definitely a lot different then the first 3 dungeons. The monthly sub is worth the social aspect, dungeon running, and GvG wars that have been brewing in the PVP servers.

So what about end game? I am not worried about that, I will cross that bridge when I get to it. It is concerning that a lot of the plans are not implemented yet, but EM already stated they are waiting for more players to reach cap before they unveil the political system and other goodies for the end game. If it's good, I will stick around, if not I will move on. Simple as that.

The main city was "meh"?! Velika doesnt look like a great city for a mmo of 2012?! o.O WTH?! It's a phantasy mmo... what do you want for a main city? Wait a moment... TERA has got like... 3 Mains Cities... Velika,  Allemantheia and Kaiator. I've seen 2 of them, Velika and Allemantheia, and boths looks gorgeous... But I dont understand your point... you prefer a place like Imperial Fleet or Republic Fleet? This ones looks like a 2012 mmo's city?

Sometimes I don't understand why people play mmorpgs, your third point is a bit ridiculous, seriously...

Just because someone criticizes a game doesn't make them a fanboi of another game. In this case, it may be true, but lately around here any criticism is brushed off as fanboi bating, which isn't accurate.

I knew I shouldn;t have mentioned the gw2 city. But honestly, it really is an amazing city. Even if you play tera find a friend who has gw2 and take a look at the amount of effort they put in, I was really quite impressed.

But back on point. I wanted to try Tera because I hate arguing about games without giving them a fair go.

I should balance my annoyances with good things:

    1) The pegasus models - Really nicely done, very pretty. I love the way they bank in the air.

    2) Character models and animations, top notch, detailed, but slightly spoiled by the games backgrounds, the grass/rocks arn't that detailed and just look a bit empty.

    3) I had some fun duels. But as I mentioned it's like playing Virtua fighter on Xbox, you beat someone and are all like woo!!!, but then don't really get anything for it, so it fades pretty quickly. There has to be a reason for pvp. I duelled some guy 3 times and won, I don't even remember the guys name today.

    4) Monster models are very nicely done.

I still stand by my earlier posts though and say that without some sort of reason for pvp (not battlegrounds pvp, i hate battlegrounds in all forms with a passion), the game will die in the west. Even in league of legends, you win a match, you get some IP. It's genius.

They could do great things with Tera. BUt it would require a huge overhaul.

Teekay has started about 3 different threads on TERA now, basically trashing it every single time.  I'm amazed he's still playing it.  But either way, I've stopped reading them after the first thread.  Enjoy, guys.

Since GW2 was already brought up, I must say Divinity's Reach was a beautiful city, felt alive, and definitely rewarded those who went around exploring. Tera's cities were beautiful, I am just not a big fan of the art direction, personal opinion. I am sure others will feel differently

Say what you will, i'm trying to be objective.

In regards to the capital city bit. Come on, It wasn't that good. Some nice statues, but it was just plain old run of the mill stuff and not that big. The crafting area was pretty limited also. I had a good old look round, no npcs wandering round , no real life.

Swtor was terrible in many respects. Coruscent(sp?) was nicely done, but the main space station was rubbish. It reminded me of that undead city in WoW, the underground ring part (the name escapes me).

Aion had a better city, although still fairly small.

You don't have to defend every single aspect of the game, you are allowed to say, 'well I like this bit, but think this bit is rubbish'.

Doesn't make it a bad game.
