Use Ventrilo for your guild in Guild Wars

fnysfnys Member Posts: 88

YES! Like all games it's very hard to communicate fast with chat message when you are in the middle of a big battlefield, using skills, running etc. etc.
Ventrilo is a scalable Voice over IP (VoIP) communications system that is perfect for all types of games, programs when you're playing with your friends and you want to have fast communication & good contact with them.

Ventrilo can be used for home / personal applications like talking to friends and family, or playing organized online games where Voice Comm can make them more exciting and productive. It can also be used in an enterprise environment as a productivity tool for conducting long distance group discussions.

So you, who are in a guild in Guild Wars (or another game... or just want to talk with your friends over the internet), stop using slowly chatboxes to communicate with eachother... Try Ventrilo, it's free! All you need is a headset.

I maded a guide for thoose who are intrested of maybe setup an own Ventrilo server, or just need a guide for how Ventrilo works, Here you go:

hehe well well :p TS IS BETTER!! heheh now seriousally :P i should make a tutorial for teamspeak >:P i like ts's interface better :P but they are equally the same but i found out more people use Teamspeak also i was wonder does arenanet have some future deal with teamspeak considering they offer it in the Deluxe preorder package

but to the point VIOP programs like Ts and vent are valuable well not valuable nessecary to me but i agree getting people to use a ts or vent server is a difficult most of the time even with random people you meet in coop missions =/ but a voip program helps alot for pvp well does for my guild >:)

My guild uses Team Speak on a server hosted by http://upallnightgaming.com/
It's a good free service and I recommend checking them out. It's highly useful and we hardly ever use the in-game chat.

Wow, you should look into the Codecs. They both sound the same turned up! For administration, bandwidth, and just plain ease of use... TS all the way. Looks like a good place for a poll ::::28::

I doubt it really makes a difference if the server has enough bandwidth.  Just make sure that you are using the correct Codec.  Our guild uses Teamspeak and it works fine.  I also setup a server on my personal machine for folks that I know who are not in my guild.  It was suprisingly easy to setup.

    Hails,

I have always found Ventrilo to have better quality in larger chat sessions. Is there a limit to the number of players that can inhabit a private TS server? I have been in Ventrilo servers where there have been over 40 people scattered in 2 or 3 rooms and everything ran smooth.

i don't know about how much you can have in a room but in my ravenshield clan ts server we had 150+ people on there well in different rooms not all were playing raven shield but you get the point it still ran smooth :P

Well as a Member of the WSC i do use Vent.

Mainly coz my Guildmate (Fnys) run a Great Server. but also i hear from friends who play CS that TS have problems with Fullscreen games and so...I don't know i only tested TS once and to me it was allmost the same (only dif. "Skins" :D)

i also tested some other simular programs but i felt one BIG adv. for Ventrilo...

EVERY nOOb can opperate Ventrilo (Trust me) image

I use ventrilo for speaking with my team while we are doing a scrim on CS: Source, its really helpful instead of having to use your finger and press "K" to talk since i dont press any buttons to speak, i got my hands free for only the gamesimage  I have try using ventrilo on the beta for Guild Wars and it works nice tooimage

Please don't compare TS with Vent, its like comparing a 25 year old zex goddess to a wrinkley hag from down the street. What makes vent a zillion times better then TeamSpeak is the codec support. TeamSpeak comes with horrible codecs and even if you install better codecs it still doesn't compare with the quality of ventrillo. One advantage to TeamSpeak is that it is free though. With vent you gotta get it hosted which costs a lot of money if you want to have more then 8 ppl online.

Last time I checked you can download the free server software and run it on your pc and that supports up to 32 people, has something changed? I have my own dedicated vent server.

It works up to 32 ppl if you have the older version of vent (2.1.4). If you run the newer version of vent (2.2.0), it limits you to 8 people. I ran across this problem when I ran my vent server for my WoW guild where I had to downgrade the version so everyone can get on it. I also messaged Ventrillo to see if they will sell me the licenced version, but I couldn't because I am not a company and on top of that they don't have any more licences to sell.

So you can't pay for the upgrade anymore??
