I honestly cannot believe nor fantom they put him in charge of communications again??!
Do they really believe we have forgotten about him?? After what he did during Age of Conan pre/post release back then?
For the newbies among us, who don't know him....
This guy was in charge of communications of Age of Conan back in the time. It was this guy that had the world premiere on the internet on which people pulled the Iraqi Information Minister prank!
This guy lied to the playerbase and press to such extreme! He managed to put both Pinochio and the Iraqi Information Minister to shame. He grew a nose a 1000 times larger than that of Pinochio.
His lies became so silly that eventually even the press didn't take him serious anymore, that Funcom management was forced to take him from his position and assign him to a different internal position within the company!
After the whole shit storm he pulled over himself back then by the huge angry mob... I cannot believe he is back in this exact same position and now spouting out the exact same garbage, now for The Secret World to the playerbase and press again!
I am honestly shocked!

My opinion of him is quite clear.
However, to be fair to Funcom, TSW is in a much better state at this point in development than AoC was. Which has nothing to do with Ellingson, but at least they have learned, somewhat, from past mistakes this time around.
Didn't do this to offend you, just to make it readable for others. It gave me a headache.
Edit: Found out the hard way that MMORPG.com is removing even more forum features by the minute.
To find an intelligent person in a PUG is not that rare, but to find a PUG made up of "all" intelligent people is one of the rarest phenomenons in the known universe.

Corrected, sorry just noticed MMORPG is making their forums even more horrible feature wise. They remove another one every day it seems.

We're shooting the messenger here and that's not quite fair to Erling, who is a rather accomplished professional in the industry. For example, when the box said DX10 on it, we didn't burn the printer at the stake, but that's pretty much what you're doing to Erling.
This is a guy that built a working MMO from a rather basic engine (ORE) back in 1998. IIRC, he was 15 at the time and people gave him crap back then, too. The game was ERA Online and the source to it is free here. Several MMOs were made from that source, one of which is still running more than ten years later - Argentum Online.
As for the thread linked above, labeling him a liar and untrustworthy is un called for. He doesn't decide the feature/change list and if he made stuff up he would have been fired on the spot. It's a safe bet that development told him it would be done, he went out and sold it and then the features got backlogged or scrapped. ANYONE that has the slightest understanding of how development and marketing work in the industry would bet money on that one. Oh, and this forum's editor sucks ass.
There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein

Management removed him from his position, when it got completely out of hand for a reason, and reassigned him to a different internal position at the time.
When he managed to make himself the most hated person on the internet (related to gaming) at the time, management forced to remove him from the public position and stash him away inside the company, away from the public....
.... then it's really strange they put him to the front again as Public Face in the exact same position, like nothing happened.
And now he pulling the same crap out of his pocket again, like he did with Age of Conan.
It's like he hasn't learned a single thing!
Ehh what?? If you really dig deep in my post history, you will see I have been praising TSW to the heavens until yesterday. I was really excited about this game and have been looking forward to it for years, ever since it was announced!

Agreed. Theres no way they can pull another Tortage here as long as the rest of the zones are as rich and immersive as this BWE's zone was. I am highly sold on TSW at this point, love the questing system its so rich and imemersive and all the flak ive given the game over the aniamtions are moot at this point. Just imagine when they do implement all the correct animations I think this game will be a huge sleeper.

I didn't play AoC, but played the beta briefly. Sieges were never tested by anyone, closed, internal, open beta. They were never tested and here is him giving a demo of sieges that turned out to not work and still don't work well. I was there when that happened and frankly it was no big deal. He lied about dirext x10 or 11 or something being in the game and of bunch of other trivial crap that I couln't care less about. Then Every Angry Emo on the internet made a mountain over a mole hill. I couldn't care less about Erling Elligson. He isn't the first PR guy to lie, SOE has lied countless times on video game releases and so has Bioware. If you want to blame one guy then you miles well blame the whole industry. Anyone who believes a PR person has got to be an idiot anyways, because they are just trying to hype up the game they are selling to make people go out and buy them. It's the perfect example why I don't listen to any PR bs.
And again who cares, it's your own fault for believing a PR guy in the first place. We all know they are full of shit.
