you know.. mmorpg.com is/was my main site to learn about new games and read gossip
about mmos and stuff although my native language is german, since Im from Austria.
sadly, there is a trend where people here are just flaming games without any real truth in
their words. "I played the first two quests.. and I uninstalled" "I played till 25 and because
I found out (insert random lie) I uninstalled" - really ? I guess you are just a paid guy, from
a random company spreading lies.. because if I dont like a game I simply leave it alone.
Luckily I bought the game.. and I really have fun, there are pros and cons.. definitly and they have
been discussed already, all Im going to say is: this is the very best combat system, I EVER
saw in a MMO. And thats my main reason why I like this game. And dont start with your so
called expert status cuz you played UO. I dont give a **** about that - I played since DAOC and
was in countless betas and live versions of MMOs.
so what I want so say is.. people, ignore those troll threads. check out you tube videos.. or try
the game yourself. You cant trust those mmorpg posters anymore.

Who knows, maybe in 2 month you'll sing another song?
Right now you are rightfull but change occur to anybody, just take the good leave the bad, make your own opinion, don't blame anybody for expressing their feelings and the freedom of expression.
You are master of your own action therefor buying a game or leaving it has nothing to do with anybody else then yourself.
The other poster help you to form your own opinion, they don't dictate you to do anything.
Pls keep that in mind.
Diablow 3, it sucks ...
It cuts both ways, I personally find the blind fanbots most aggravating. If you ignore the extremes there is some good info to be had sadly the signal tp noise ratio is rather low. (or ham to spam if you prefer).
btw I wish I spoke (well wrote) a second language as well as you do, hell it puts many native speakers to shame (me included).
One of the things that tipped me against playing Terra right now (I was on the fence after a whole load of public betas) is Frogster running it in the EU
Some games arguably deserve bad press (though not the 'blind' rage that some posters resort to).
Blind is the key word.....whether blinded by hate or love.
Well thats old news musta bin about 4 years now that mmorpg.com comunity forums are nothing but a pile of crap not to be taken serious.
as for the game, Tera aint bad, its a generic mmo whit a very boring hub quest system but some intresting mechanics and nice combat system (tho dragonnest action combat is way more ahead of it and thats a older more instanced based f2p-mmo)
some people will like Tera and its skimpy artstyle others wont. but its a ok game.
I agree with the OP, this applies to a number of beta/new mmos, and has been worse of late.
Both Tera and TSW require a lvl of patience that a number of posters here lack completely, the amount of misinformation going around would be distressing if there were not a good number of responders to these OPs that debunk their lies/mistakes.
It’s one thing to decide after a few mins that you hate the game, ok, close minded and impatient, but whatever, but to then claim things you that are untrue and that you couldn’t know given the brief time playing is aggravating, I've seen 2 such threads started in the last few hours alone. Yes it cuts both ways, but this isn’t about bias really, it’s about a lack of patience, and knowledge. At least fanbois know something of the mmo in question.
So why must we trust your assesment of the posters here? What makes your opinion more valid?
I worked in the press for 8 years, what i can say is that i'd rather trust user reviews than magazine / official online reviews. I tend to avoid the first 2-4 weeks after launch when "everything is so great" because really, most new games are "great" for me also for that period of time. After the things cool off, i decide on a purchase (i rarely buy games before or even at launch).
I think i can do a pretty good job being able to pick the actual important (for me) game info which is revealed from the flame war between the blind fanboy-ism and the hate. There is only one game for which i took the wrong decision (purchase) and that was Rift (i believed it'll turn out better). There's a whole bunch of others which proved me right. I think it has to do less with the posters and more with being able to pick the proper info for you. No offense.
My rule of thumb is just to look at the greater picture and i'll take opinions from those who have played to max level over those who played between 5 minutes and 5 hours any day.
The ones who have played so little are always more likely to make something up or base the entire game on their short experience.
yeah sure its the internet.. I know what you mean, but Im getting angry if I read plain lies.
If someone doenst like a game.. fine, no prob with that.. but its the lies I really start to hate.
And it wasnt always like that on this site or am I wrong ?
btw. thanks for the compliment.. reading and writing in english is pretty easy, but when I have
to talk its whole different story. I dont sound like arnold schwarzenegger, but still I have a bad
accent haha!
and yes.. those press reviews are crap as well, no doubt about it.. but in here ? I mean come
on, is this site beeing infiltrated by social media guys from "enemy" game companies ?
p.s. skydiver.. I got your joke man XD .. sure Im paid, I bought a pink ferrari from that money!
What you think are plain lies are often valid opinions of people who simply approach the game with a different background. Just because they come to a different conclusion than you doesn't make them wrong, and it doesn't make them liars.
Granted, more often than not they do a poor job of expressing their opinion in an acceptable way, but that is par for the course on the internet. You either develop the required reading comprehesion to sift through the poor writing and filter out the relevant information, or you keep thinking people are paid to lie to you.
Well, the level of debate certainly has stepped up over the years, but overall these forums in particular have always been more about PVP and not so much about information.
People have their own agendas, whether or not there are paid agents spreading disinformation is a debatable topic, I've been trying to get someone to pay me for years in order the criticize MMOs, but sadly I provide all my quality services for free.
Damn, I really want a pink Ferrari too.

Always good advice...but which thread specifically were you refering to?
Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.
Imho the question is not about trusting opinions here but about lies some people spreading to talk certain game down. It's a growing trend - person A does not like game B and in most cases the reason is not even objective, and then he hops from thread to thread spitting poison and in some cases even spreading wrong information.
Another tactics they use is thread hijacking - people discuss in civilized manner about features or lack of them in certain game X, then a game Y fanboi jumps in and says something like "game X sucks lol". People continue their discussion, then another Y jumps in, saying "Y does things way better and X is crap". Now someone tells Y fanbois to bugger off and flamewar starts. Mission completed - any kind of meaningful discussion is killed and maybe even one or two X players temporarily banned for telling Y fanbois to f*** off.
If you read some more popular topics here carefully then you see the pattern. Every single MMO is trolled that way - GW2, TSW, Tera, SWTOR you name it.
Here's what you do, im new here and at first this community was pretty unerving and sickening but I found a way to deal with it:
just imagine a fat little teenager wearing all black his shoulders covered in danderuff his face read and swollen his micropenis is nearly invisible underneath his black nylon windpants empty half gallons of chocolate milk litter the floor of his room, his laptop sits on top of an old cardboard box hes sunken into an old duct taped bean bag and he smells of the proccessed chese spread that comes on those Doritos brand snack crackers and piss of course, he hasnt actually played any of the games he flames, he cant afford them, occassionally he ult-tabs between mmorpg.com, 4-chan, reddit and Ether Saga Online, which in his mind is the only true mmorpg left, he talks of the good old days of UO and AC, in his opinion the ARPG genre died with the relase of the Hellfire expansion, although he doesnt know this personally of course hes not old enough to remember or have played those games, but in his mind he knows its true because hes read about it online...
ect
ect
ect
just do this, for every post (that isnt mine of course, im nothing like that) and this site actually become a pretty funny place.
Srsly you really trust MMORPG.com users when u try to get information about mmorpgs? This forum is full of haters and overhypers. Just look at SWTOR launch so many hyped it up to be the new messiah and look now. Expect the same for GW 2 and TSW. Ppl on this forum spend most time hateing on games they fear could "damage" theire loved mmoprg. If you look for real information about mmorpgs tons of other sites are more infromative.
If this forum had any value than wow would be already dead by the masses that are saying its so bad on this forum.
I'm surprised that so many people actually put value on "I played for five minutes and quit" type of posts; likewise "I've played the beta for five minutes and I'm completely blown away. This is going to obliterate TOR/GW2/TERA/TSW/WOW/etc.!!!" seem to offer very little that one should be basing one's decision off of.
I'm more concerned about what the reasons are, so I can place them in the proper context. Very rarely do either of those groups provide actual reasons for why it's not worth playing or why its the greatest thing evah! So I usually just ignore those posts.
You are taking part in the negativity.
It's why I have (so far) tried stuff for myself.
No-one but me can tell me what I like.
It's a wierd thing that people feel the need to cut down games they don't want to play.
Having said that, there is always a grain of truth to the lies for the most part. You just gotta learn to dig past the rabid idiocy that comes from posters like that.
I really couldn't decide if I wanted to buy Tera, the "lies" on this forum about it were basically saying it was a gimmicky Aion without the stupid flying. After getting REALLY drunk one night, I woke up the next day to find that I had bought Tera while I was shitfaced. I'm about lvl 40ish now and guess what? It's a gimmicky Aion without the stupid flying.
The combat is good, I almost prefer it to GW2 in it's current state. But everything else is as vanilla as an MMO can get.
Thanks to the negative posters on these boards I had a good idea of what I was getting into. If I would have just read the positive "fanboy" stuff, I wouldn't have gotten an accurate portrayal of the game.
Just check the posters history and that will give you a good example of what kind of poster he or she is when it comes to games they like or dislike.
We have alot of posters on this forum that have been around the block when it comes to MMO's and have a right to say their piece, however bashing a game constantly in thread after thread is utter ridiculous when it comes to some posters.
I haven't given TERA a full shake down yet, until then I will keep my positive and negative comments to myself.
newsflash , no you shouldnt trust . if you dont agree with masses and you opinions somewhat differs you got one day bans and warnings.
No, I'm not. That is exactly my point. It can be difficult to believe people are really just not able to understand your point of view, especially with the language they often chose to use, but more often than not, people are really just (poorly) presenting their own opinion. There is nothing deliberate about it, at least not initially.
Once things get out of hand and decline into a full-blown flamewar, there certainly is plenty of malice and vitriol, no doubt. But even then, it's not about misinforming per se, but more about pissing each other off, which tends to work most efficiently by insulting the game, and by extension, the opponents opinion of it.
You don't say? Why would that be, exactly?
When there are no topics of real interest to discuss, we can always talk about the posters personalities; such behavior is to be appauded (as this admirable if somewhat holier-than-thou person steps forward to remind us).
Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.
Ive actually found the fanbois to be more accurate about games recently. I know that will makes some peoples heads explode...and i dont mean about this game specifically i mean most. The only exclusion is an overhyped unreleased AAA themepark, here the opposite holds true.
I watched countless "average to slightly above average" games praised as the next big thing, i was a troll if i didnt agree. The released and proved to be good but nothing special and i watched the mood change from praise to revenge.
Best example, one that really proved to me what to expect on this sight was AoC. Game was the big one before launch (despite CBT testers saying its not finished once the NDA was dropped) only to be beaten down by the crowd for disagreeing. It launched unfinished. There was outrage as fanbois turned to permanant funcom haters.
One year later i stop by the forum, ask how the game is a year later. Just bought a new graphics card and was looking to test it out ect. I was led to believe that the game was the exact same as launch, a pile of steaming crap..a terrible game...funcom wont let me unsub if i want to dont give them your cc info...so i walked away. A week later i decided to just buy it and play just to see my new card in action. I stayed for about a year and a half expecting to never make it past tortage (which i was told was the best part of the game and part i least liked) anyway....that sealed the deal for me.
You want a good review just take the plunge. Unless your a super picky kid who has temper tantrums when you waste your allowance then by all means, avoid all mmorpgs. If your a level headed person who just want some entertainment out of these games...youll at least get your months worth out of just about any game.
As for tera, definately better than most make it out. Its a game with a phenominal combat system placed inside a beautiful world, build on the foundations of a very mediocre themepark quest hub game. A lot of the themepark features are not in game yet. Its still fun.
List off some of these lies you re talking about.
