How can a mmorpg look so damn good?
when i watch him play it blows me away, i keep starring at the details and high resolution textures. And those huge bad ass monsters, even from far away, the look so damn detailed and felt actually like living creatures.
This game is build to survive 15y at least.

Yes it is beautiful, and the combat system is fun. But, it's the old saying of putting lipstick on a pig, it's still a pig. I'm not bashing it by saying this, but they have such a wonderful foundation for a game and they stuck it with the same old questing system.
I"m bored and feel like I'm forcing myself to play because I bought it...
Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.
You're registered as 39 ... how old is your "little" brother?
hehe
I have a little brother and I'm 53! Actually he may be bigger, but he's still my little brother damnit!
Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.
Nah, it's just that the word "little" was funny. Funny enough to make me look whether he was a teenager. I don't think I would bother if he used "younger" instead.
Are you with a guild or some friends and are you on PvP or PvE server, if you feel obliged to play and want to have some fun, try finding a group of friends or a guild to level up with and PvP as you level, usually fun for myself anyways.
15 years?
Really?
I would love to have that level of optimism.
In these times mmos last at most a few years before everyone switches to the next big thing. Even if you love asian style mmos, Archeage will be the next big draw, it just has way more features.
if not 500 years.
It's a good looking game, but you can definatly feel the limitations of the engine in the zone design. Also, it has some of the most bizarre art choices I have ever seen. You can start fighting a mob tthat looks completly bad ass but it comes at you with what appears to be a raging pack of homicidal tinker bells, or raggedy anne dolls. It's both very adult and completly fucking childish at the same time.
One thing I really can't stand about the graphics is the "depth of field" effect in the background. It really detracts from the over all look of the game. It's a shitty effect in every game that has it, but almost all of them allow you to turn it off. Tera doesn't.
can you explain what this is? I guess I dont know this effect at all.
I am so good, I backstabbed your face!
This is just silly... It's not that good of a game. sorry..
The is a lack of continuity between the title of your post and the subject... I get it , you think the game is great, looks good etc...
But what does that have to do with where you witnessed the game...
The point was you like it, I just don't understand why there is the need to introduce another individual into your narrative and post title... it's as if you are attempting to make a disclaimer of some sorts...
Maybe I am reading too much into it...
My little brother is 37
Depth of Field is when the background, way off in the distance, is intentionally blurry. It's supposed to mimic the effect of a photograph or a painting when you are focused on a subject in the foreground. But to me, it looks like shit and it's never done well in games.
You can try turning the lighting enrichment off:
and it goes from looking like
to looking like
It looks pants to me.
If you like that instead, from there you can play with other settings on your end to get the lighting looking just the way you want it to and forcing AA.
I love the depth of field, It looks really amazing to me and I don't see how it is a bad thing.
Cool, ty that was driving me nuts. It's a shame you have to sacrifice your color and AA to get it done though. I'd play with my video card controller but fucking Catalyst hasn't worked on my computer for a year. Damn you ATI.
I don't know why people like depth of field personally, fucking blurry myopic shit is all it looks to me. It's how I imagine being near sighted would be.
What are these limitation that you "feel"?
I mean its the unreal engine, its one of the best ones out there.
Dont really agree with your statement that the mobs are all tinkerbells, yes there are fairy minions, and yes the vampire mobs look like dolls, but thats two mob types out of many. Some look fantastic some look...well...strange.
The fist time i saw a giant rock, it was a mob, i walked up to it, no aggro...wasnt sure what it was...i didnt attack but i drew aggro as i gave it an up close inspection... as the rock was the formation of spider legs bunched up in such a way to make it look like a cacoon or something...yeah it was a giant spider...i had to run it was a boss mob and out of my league...was a very surprising moment. Stuff like that i love, i was curious, then surprised. (this video doesnt show it before they have aggro but when it bunches up and spins its basically what the mob looks like before aggro...this mob doesnt wander it sits there bunched up untill you smack it or bump into it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7XkibMimRU4)
But yeah some of the mobs are awefully strange.
And your dislike from the dephth of field effect makes the game look fantastic...if you hate seeing a beautiful high res backround theres an option to nerf it. I really cant believe im seeing a complaint about this however.
Also the mobs look surprisingly similair up close as they do at a distance, which is what the OP was refering to actually...not sure how a mob can look badass from a distance but then turn out to be childish up close...they look the same in both fields of view...
But feel free to explain how you can "feel" the game engines limitations...
Glad you like the game OP but 15 year is pretty much impossible for most games now days XD I be happy with 5 years or so before they make Tera 2 =X
Depth of field is the opposite of beautiful and hi-res. It's blurry, washed out and lo-res. That's my point.
The zones are one box for the town, surrounded by a bunch of sub boxes with paths leading through them. That's what I mean about limitations, the zones are all relativly the same shape with different paint jobs. Compare this to something like Vanguard, GW2, WoW, Fallen Earth or a bunch of others. If you see something off in the distance in those games, you can run to it and check it out. Tera you know you're in a box and that mountain off in the distance is just a picture on the wall. Tera feels more like SWTOR to me, although done much better.
As to the mob design, I specifically said that you would see something totally awesome and bad ass right beside the childish ones. Try reading a little closer next time. It's like watching the movie Alien but when the alien attacks a Dora the Exlplorer cartoon breaks out. It's totally bizzare.
I'll repeat this again, it's a good looking game. These are small critisisms and just because my opinion differs from yours, doesn't mean I'm right and your wrong. It's just my take.
I play with lighting enrichment on 1 and everything on my graphics card control panel forced to max, fuck that blue everything is so much more crystal clear on enrichment 1 than 2.
0 is too dull for me though.
Sybnal I also agree depth of field is a bother, but with lighting enrichment 1 things looks much better especially while playing. Kind of ruins screenshots for some reason for me though.
Also like rez said below me, the world is completely explorable, I mean, it's really damn easy to climb even over the mountains blocking the edge of the world and fall off ending up underneath the map.
Idk what your talking about but If i seen a tower in the distance i can run to it w/o any problem and climb over mountains if i need to o.o
53?! I thought I was old at 44. Hello pops :P
Im not that old. I dont give private informations in my account description. But i wrote here and there some hints.
I disagree, the more zones you explore the more diverse the mobs are some models are just creative and amazing and each new zone still blows me away, I'm in my 40's.
I've read the same Tera complaint posts here about these boring quests and I can always tell they don't have any time invested. This being that it's not as much about the lack luster quest chore more or less learning the new mobs combat tell tale signs. Some of areas you complete your quests along with mob ai's are challenging as hell, that I believe in my opinion is what it's all about.
My biggest gripes are non movement combat and the damn stam system. I know taking the least amount of damage is the ticket but when it happens who the hell wants to stand around a camp fire to regen.
