General Discussion is populated by complaint threads about population, and also lack of features/broken features. It's always pretty negative, but it seems like there is a rising tide of discontent as population drops for various reasons.
I almost feel bad for the mods over there, because they have to police this stuff as part of their job. One poster actually proposed that Lucasarts was thinking of shifting the game to another studio because of the dropped subs and botched patches. That thread was closed, but man. This looks disastrous.

Ruling the forums with an iron fist. They will quash the rebellion.

SWTOR forums look the same to me. I guess you have to visit them really often to see heavy moderating.
Anyway, I agree, D3 will make a big dent in active player numbers. GW2 will probably finish the job.
omg this made me laugh! hilarious. did you do this just to prove the point? lolz

It's too late for SWTOR, I enjoyed playing it for three months, then it got stale fast, gradually I stopped logging in, now i'm done. I've already ordered Tera and pre-ordered Gw2, As a big star wars fan I am very dissapointed with how SWTOR turned out. The game will run the same course as Age of Conan. Well it was fun while it lasted.
The real disaster is the community and their treatment of an expensive attempt at an MMO. Surely, after seeing the shitstorm Bioware was engulfed in, no new big money is willing to attempt the risk of making an expensive MMO. Just not worth it.
Swtor is the biggest fail in mmo history. EA can't even make a successful star wars game..what kind of idiots do they employ at all. if swtor didn't have lightsabers you wouldn't even know it was a star wars game.
Blame the community? For a crappy game?
Wow.

The SWTOR forums are the ugliest, most negative, and most censored in 12 years of MMORPGs.
And can you play the players? No....because with the millions upon millions of dollars spent to make SWTOR, the huge amount of Star Wars lore, the largest game publisher EA and one of the best dev studios BIOWARE, there is NO EXCUSE for the design flaws of SWTOR.
The biggest flaw being that it is a WoW clone....period.
The only thing original in SWTOR is the 100% Voice Dialog and interesting stories, with the exception of Jedi (blah).
People expected alot more that just WoW in space....and unfortunately, its nto even as good as WoW...and I hate WoW.
In fact, PvP in WoW is more fun than in SWTOR.....and thats a sin.
The curse of big IPs continues.....
A curse of crappy developers/companies is more like it.
Put these good IPs in the hands of competent people and then we'll see something good.

The game has a million subs but 40% of people think it will be F2P at the end of the year? Are gamers really this out of touch with reality?
I honestly can't put my finger on what it was that made me slowly stop playing SWTOR. I loved the Smuggler story and the characters (I absolutely adored Corso). The combat was just sort of boring, and the side quests were very meh. I just found that over time I stopped logging in and didn't want to play that often.
The low population was a problem as well....to be logged on and have only two other people in the zone was very...well disappointing.
I hope that it doesn't go away but that something is revamped and made better over time. I really did like the changes with the legacy system, that makes it interesting but it wasn't enough to hold me.

show me proof that the game has a million subs, if you believe that you are truly out of touch with reality. the game is going to lose sub every month, there is no way this game can recover. it will be f2p by january. It's the biggest piece of static shit i have ever played. warhammer gets kicked around alot but that game was fun for awhile, swtor was always just plain shit.
That and a majority of the people active on mmorpg.com are not playnig SWTOR, hence you will see a lot of bias aimed against it. Numbers don't lie, if swtor has over a million subs, then I'm sorry but I don't care how much you hate the game, it's a success.
Advice to haters? Go play Tera, or something. I'm going back to my desktop screen to twiddle my thumbs while waiting for D3.
How could you possible ask for proof of something with a statement like this?
This. I too had way more fun in Warhammer Online. Simply because the PVP was actually fun! Despite the flaws with keeps later on and their inability to fix Tier4.
I played Warhammer Online for over 5 months fulltime as only MMO and might have played a little longer, if it wasn't for my EU server dying out and nothing happening anymore.
SW:TOR just became a SPACEBAR spamming borefest, with extremely stale PVE content. PVP is non-existent and absolutely the most horrible PVP I have ever encountered in any game.
The irony here is, that Bioware has just proven that you can sugarcoat your game with 100% voice overs, but if your PVE is stale and boring... no amount of sugarcoating is going to cover that up! Even in Warhammer Online the PVE with Public Quests, etc... was more fun! There was a ton more socializing going on in WAR than I have ever encountered in my 3 months in SW:TOR!!
There should be an option for the game is already dead now. there are oinly about 15 NA servers left that are not dead. Bioware may tell you the population is 1.3 million but its more like 0.3 million and heading south quickly. If the dropoff continues at the rate it is in another month there will only be 3-4 viable servers left.
If you don't believe it check Tor-Status and you will ntoice everyday the dropoof gets bigger and bigger. The game is close to being dead right now.
how can you not be a hater? why couldn't they put more effort into the races in the game, they are complete crap. blue human yellow human cyborg human, blind human, thats not good enough. the planets are linear static and have zero life, there is barely any ambient sound in any of the zones. npc's dont even move. if i was making a star wars mmo the first thing i would want to get right is the races. then make the worlds feel like worlds and not static quest hubs. you have 200 million at your disposal make a fucking effort. ive seen games with far less financial backing make much more believible worlds. they putall their effort into the story (which isn't anything spectacular) and the rest of the game is well below average.
I don't mind if people don't like it or even if they think it will fail. But at 300k subs the game would still be healthy. F2P is an option when you can't entice enough players to pay to cover costs. F2P is an option for a niche game. SWTOR is certainly not a GREAT game, but if you think there aren't 300k-500k Star Wars fans who will keep subbing to this you might consider spending mroe time away from this forum and experiencing life. BTW, I do not sub to the game and have nothing vested in it's success or failure.
It's because almost the entire budget went up in paying actors for Voice Overs and their insane Marketing Campain to maximize their box sales!
There was basically nothing left of the entire budget to make an actual enjoyable lasting game. /shrug
and these people are supposedly intelligent? sometimes i wonder why the biggest idiots in this world hold the highest positions.
Would be nice to see the truth in the sub number. We and YOU know good and well they are counting free time in their sub count. I don't guess there is any way to get a count without spin but once this free month thing is over you guys still playing will certainly feel the blow on how dead your servers are. What are they going to do, give more free time to keep people playing? What I'm seeing is they're having a hard time giving it away now.
I would say sorry but I'm a true Star Wars fan, not a harnessed sheep being led around. I can see past just the name and see the game does no justice to the genre or IP. The game is a dud plane and simple, the sooner we can get it out of the way the sooner we stand a chance that someone who cares can take this IP to the next level. EA played it way way too safe in a overly dumbed down design, and in an attempted money grab they released an unfinished product, but in doing so they damaged the game and lost far more profit than they would have by having a little pride in their work.
Lucas doesn't even show his legacy any love anymore. It's like he's ashame of it. I wouldn't be surprised he gave EA the green light on this game because he knew they would screw it up.
the funny thing is.i doubt your going to find much better in terms of community in diablo 3
Blaming customers for corporate failure has never worked out too well in the past. Just a thought.
