I have played Dragon's Nest abd personally I think it has very good and fun combat.
I have watched a number of video for Tera combat and while the two system are not exactly the same they share alot of things. I don't really see how TERA is significantly better and many combats tactics wind up being very similar in the way they are executed.
This isn't a knock against TERA as I think DN has some of the best combat in the MMO space. But I am not seeing how TERA is somehow the best that has ever been made. Or even that different from games that have existed for years.
To be sure TERA is much less instanced based than DN, but that is a separate issue.

Tera combat is much more tactical than DN, every attack you do has reward and consquence. In Tera combat is about predicting the attacks and counter attack. Where DN feel like your having a seizer with your mouse trying to hit stuff your move around so fast and doing all these turns, where it turns in to most of a reactionary and combot spam.
Well against normal mobs in DN you are mostly taking advantage of distance and using the various staggers/knockdowns to survive. The way a sorcoress in DN herds and staggers/stun/slow then blinks away is very very similar to the way a TERA sorc does. In both cases using the right stuff at the right time is pretty important for managing the herd and not letting them get too close.
Against DN bosses though you typically need to be aware of their specials and react/counter them according to some strategy (varies alot). DN bosses seem to be roughly equivalent to BAMs although they don't seem to always take as much time to kill.
Not really, sorc in Tera barealy has any stagger/knockdowns at all, DN is heavly CC based where Tera its not much CC. You have to relay you dodging and kiting rather than your CCs. And againt Tera more much tactical than DN because of amount of speed and escapes your character have. In Tera as a sorc if your in combat you can't just run away as easy as you can in DN.
This kinda is true, but again the main different Between the combat is Tera is much more stragtical where DN is much more twitchy. To me Tera combat has weight behind it, everyone you do has a dely/root so you can't just go use the wrong skill because it could get you killed. Where DN is more twitch reflex on doding, idk to me DN feel your fialing around all the time.
Dragon Nest is not a mmo.
I agree that DN is not an MMO. However, the DN combat is 100% better for one reason...you can MOVE.
Sidenote: Do any of the later MMO's TSW or GW2 have a way to control like DN (you don't have to hold down the right mouse button to turn the camera?) I haven't played GW2 but think it would work nicely in that game and I was trying to figure out a way to do this in TSW and didn't see any options.
TSW and GW2 aren't action combat game, so no they don't have that option. Also movement in combat takes away action combat because there is no risk in your attacks if you can move out of everything. Most action combat games have root, monster hunter, god eater burst, demon soul, dark soul, and god of war.
Not entirely sure why holding down the right mouse button (to move the camera with your mouse) or not would be such a big deal to companies that they wouldn't offer the option.
DN combat is not even close to being as good as TERA. Waited years for Dragon Nest and only lasted 1 week playing it.
I don't think it's meant to be played as a full time game, it's a bit too shallow. Well, TERA self rooted me and I lasted about two hours stopping and starting and uninstalled.
Thats too bad. We are having a blast and gearing up for the first Vanarch Election on the 18th.
Play a fast class and by level 30 you almost forget there's rooting lol. As a warrior I can dodge midway of just about any attack and the attacks are really fast.
I have two different dodges as well, not just one.
Well this is one of the reasons I asked this question. After watching a video of a high level warrior soloing a drake BAM it didn't seem all that much stop and go.
A previous poster is correct in that it is easier to run away from mobs in DN. But the stop and go-ness class dependent and sorc seems to get both that glacial retreat and a blink/teleport to make up for it. While warrior seems to be able to circle strafe and dodge quite a lot.
This is also seem to be the foudnation of alot of the gameplay of DN. Thus they seem similar. Although DN tends to be more actobatic and have more things like juggling and such. Although I do rather like that there is juggling possibilities.
TERA requires a lot more planning and a lot more skills involved, in DN its all about wall hogging and juggling them to death but taht doesnt work in TERA. You have to pre-plan everything and expect the unexpected. oh and the fact that TERA is 100x better ine very single department, the Open world, instances, combat, Graphics x10, Art etc... I could go on more in depth about the Political system but I really don't think i need to .
Oh btw Every single person who complains about Rooting has never played a single Action combat game in their life. Dark souls, monster hunter and many of the best Action games that exist has self rooting, So how the hell is Tera not "true action combat" If these games are the fundimental of Action games. the only people complaining about self rooting are WOW, GW2 and SWTOR's fans. Tab-target and Action combat is different, we cant have action combat without self rooting unless you want another Dragon nest where EVerything is about jugging and button mashing.
From my time with DN, it felt more arcade style of combat then Tera.
tera is more about tactics.
dn is more about juggling.
LOL I pointed this out months ago when TERA first went into beta and everyone was oooh'in and ahhh'in and talking about how innovatiive and brilliant TERA was for " inventing " this new dynamic combat system, that a ton of Korean F2P's had been using for a long time.
As I said before DN does the system, better, faster, smoother, and with better animations.
However that doesn't matter just like with SWTOR the enmasse viral marketers, and psychotic fanbois are gonna scream rant and rave how I am wrong and TERA is so awesome and has 2 million players and is the best game ever yada yada same old BS as always.
I would say that this is true. Juggling and mechanics like that are much more important. And it looks like you have a number more abilities to use in TERA.
But I can't say DN's juggling takes no skill. The timing and planning to keep a number of things disabled can be pretty tight. I rarely button mashed in DN I had particular skills I wanted at particular times for particular reasons.
I have never really been convinced that quanity of skills mean much. A system bloated with too many abilities is just as bad or worse than one that has too few useful ones.
The two are certainly different in that regard. DN is far more acrobatic and juggling based. But why is juggling and such inferior? Its not really that easy.
Failed to read any of the thread and just decided to throw in more of your trolls, you're typing as if everyone in here is thinking the same thing as you, but we're not.
It's funny, you're one of only two people in here bashing TERAs combat, while we're having an actual discussion.
We also didn't say they invented it, but it's the only AAA MMORPG with this type of combat, so it is new and innovative for the type of game it was implemented for.
Funny, those who like TERA swear by the combat rooting because they understand why it's there. Try wielding a weapon and swinging it around while you move around and jump up and down at full speed - It's just not possible. Any good boxer will tell you the key to a strong punch is planting your feet and following through with your punch.
TERA tries to capture the true essence of combat instead of having it be some hotkey mashing arcade action with no trade-off other than a cooldown. It's understandable that you want more of an arcade combat, but this game is truly better because of the simulation approach to combat.
He's a GW2 fan - There's no discussion with him, just rampant trolling of anything not GW2
I still wonder if only 8 of the 380 players in his/her/it's guild sign in per day. Must have just been some kind of hackers and botters that were banned, considering guilds can only hold 300 players lol.
My point is TERA is not a AAA game any more than Raiderz or maybe Linage, only reason some of you consider it a AAA game is becauwse they are presenting it as one.
The point I am trying to drive home is , is that TERA is just one more of a long line of Korean grindage F2P games that Korean's rejected so they thought to themselves what do we do now? Oh I know we package it in a pretty box and sell it to the Americans because they are stupid enough to buy anything we tell them.
Yes and I going by your logic of what I say goes and defines what a game is and what's better means I can state as fact that "TERA is a AAA MMORPG and is the best game on the planet while games like Lineage and RaiderZ are awful, f2p Korean grinders. Only reason you don't like TERA is because you are stupid and terrible at games, it's too complicated for you and your 380 person guild."
See the flaw in your logic, it's not fact, it's your opinion.
I wouldn't say combat is significantly better, just different.
Risk vs Reward is more prevalent in Tera. As such the classes have to work a bit harder to succeed. Pace is slower and more thought on actions is required than DN imo.
Purely from the visceral feel of combat , I would give DN the nod.
From the standpoint of how engrossing the combat is I would give TERA 1st place.
Both have great combat, I would call DN's more fluid and TERA's more challenging.
How is your 380 members guild going man? Hahahahhahahaha, how can i take anything you say seriously when you flat out lie about everything around here.
