I don't know if this has been posted about here, but this article at PC gamer explores some of the post-launch new content phiosophy of ANET for GW2.
An excerpt:
“We have a live team of designers and artists and gameplay programmers who are going to be flying over the game constantly, dropping content everywhere” Johanson says. “Our goal is that every time you make a new character, you might go back through a map that you played six months ago and you’re going to find completely different content.” New content, he says, will be spread across the whole game rather than concentrated in specific areas. As this happens, the events already in place will be altered to accommodate it.
...
ArenaNet will not, however, be drawing players’ attention to new content directly. Johanson believes that it’s important that players have an opportunity to be surprised, something that could be spoiled by sticking an advertisement for a new encounter in the patch notes.
This is exactly what I hoped at least a major part of their new-content delivery philosophy would be; constantly adding new things and filling up already-existent areas to keep all current zones fresh and replayable - and, without even telling us what new stuff they add, we just have to find it.
This an exciting and cool concept, where instead of big blocks of advertised, patch-noted new content. an ongoing stealth process that looks like an evolving, changing world in the eye of the player that keeps all zones new and fresh. What a great way to invite players back to starter zones to play with new players or the alts of friends or guildies.
Yet another thing that ANET has gotten so right it's ridiculous.

Really nice . +1
this all comes back to lvl scaling which makes every zone a viable place to adventure at any time. So often it seems that dev's make great games then ruin them, but from what i've seen of these dev's i'm more excited about where GW2 will be in a year then where it will be at launch.
"Three years from now, if someone makes a brand new character in the game, a place that has 100 events in it might have 300 by then.”
So many.. "you're" or "your" >_< but yes good read!
Ohhhh, so their actual endgame is real content that you have to go out and adventure and explore. Instead of 1 raid every few months that you grind in hopes of getting gear to do the next raid a few months down the line so you can grind for gear to do another raid that will release a few months down the line so you can grind for gear to do another raid that will release a few months down the line...
Well played, Anet, well played.
BOOYAKA!
LoL, another fanboy point of view. Endgame in gw2 is, start over again, maybe you´ll find something new, maybe not and since is all about fast travel, what adventure and exploration are you talking about?, you even have scouts who show you where are everything in a zone.
I was wondering about ANET's post-launch philosphy - if they had thought through how to add new content, what kind of new content to add to stay within the philosophy of their manifesto, etc. Looks like ANET isn't going to disappoint.
What is really eye-opening is how long it's been since an MMOG developer not only met expectations, but exceeded them.
Just shows how uninformed you are, look up what the scouts show you.
K i`ll tell you, they ONLY show the renown hearts in the area nothing more, no dynamic events that take place, ONLY renown hearts.
Again, thats from a gw fan point of view. In the real world, people have another interpretation of the facts.
Anet has a very innovative team. Out of the box thinkers are what the genre needs right now.
Oh, I'm sure that there are many people that feel like AoC, Rift, Tera, Warhammer, STO, LOTRO, Champions, DCUO, etc. have all met or exceeded expectations. I'm just expressing my personal perspective here, which is admittedly biased. In the real world, people have all sorts of opinions about the current state of MMOG development. I've made my personal view as clear as I can in my MMORPG blog - but again, I don't present it as anything other than personal opinion.
I don't troll other game forums and dis them. My perhaps unwarranted expectation is that in the GW2 forum, I am speaking to GW2 fans, so when I make a statement about anything here, the assumptive bias is that of a GW2 fan ... or else why would I be posting here?
I'm sorry GW2 pissed in your cheerios. If you played the game you would actually know the scouts show 0 DEs. So, *buzzzzzz*, try again!
For one I did not even use fast travel that often in the BWE unless, I'm heading back to town or need to get back to a certain zone and sometimes I actually hoof it back because I might miss something. Amazing that an optional mechanic is optional, is it not? I do the same damn thing in skyrim. I can actually count the amount of times I used fast travel, besides the carts, on my 10 fingers and 10 toes. I'm an explorer type. I go out and actually explore.
BOOYAKA!
This worked really well for me in the BWE. I was in a hurry to see what was North of my Norn's starting area so I didn't spend much time exploring the Southern part of the zone before I headed out. I came back later to finish exploring the Southern part of the zone and found dynamic events that I had missed and got credit for exploration points. Even in my mid 20s the level 5 content was challenging enough that if I aggroed more than one or two mobs I'd be in trouble.
What's really amazing about GW2 isn't just the promises the developers make, it's the fact that the game has so far lived up to those promises.
This sounds great, because some DEs do not really look that dynamic at all. I mean, I like the system, but while some DEs are awsome, some are like good old questhubs without questgivers. I like the idea, that they will ad new stuff over the time. Since I like to just wander around a world and find new things. For me this is the No1 MMO-Experience:
-explore the world, get in contact with other people, adventures
However,
since they cannot add new stuff every week, in the end it is always the same in every MMO: you do the same stuff again and again in endgame. But there is a huge difference:
Outdated MMO:
-PvE means, do the current raid-instance, in order to get items. You have no other choice, because there is nothing else to do and this is the only way to get good items. And items rule the game completely. Because without proper gear you cannot participate in certain content. In the end you have to do stuff, you do not want to do, because it is the armor you wear, that counts, not you as a player.
-PvP means, earn points in a reward-system to buy items, that make you OP, and waiting-cues. This means most of the time you fight against opponents much weaker or much stronger than you. It almost never accurs, that there is a match that feel "competetive". In the end some players are just standing around, because quick losing is more rewarding, than even trying to compete.
-PvP can also mean, that you get constantly ganked by much stronger players, some call this open-PvP or sandbox or whatever, just to hide the fact, that it sucks.
GW2:
-PvE you can do whatever you want to, it is always rewarding and challenging. This includes:
open-world-raid-bosses
exploring and questing in a vast world, that feels alive and dynamic
helping your low-level-friends
doing dungeons
-PvP you can do whatever you want to, it is always rewarding and competetive:
open-PvP with 3 factions, castles, siege weapons, strategy, epic battles, for everybody and for all sorts of groups
casual BGs you can enter without wating whenever you want with a variety of rule-sets
competetive BGs with rankings, but no OP-gear-reward- system - just player-skill
Sorry, but GW2's features sound like fantasy^^
Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don't need.
It's already becoming fairly apparent even with what's already in game. As we tried out new characters and went through the starting areas, we started to learn the basic set of major events to expect, what we didn't count on though was the amount of times we'd go to a 'familiar' area to find a completely different feel (aside from the landscape obviously) due to a new set of events running.
The impact that had was impressive.
My new human guardian had a very different experience than the human thief I'd started a few hours earlier, as events I hadn't seen previously were in action. The fact that the variety will only increase as time goes on is a huge bonus.
This held true with our higher level characters from the first BWE as well of course, we started looking around for events we were expecting in certain areas only to find a number of really cool encounters we'd never seen before instead.
This is perfect for me. I hate when games force me through the exact same linear path as everyone else and then that paths the same every time. Giving me some room to pick my own path and then having what I encounter vary makes a huge difference.
It's about time someone got this right, can't wait to see more.
Scouts point out a handful of locations in a zone that you can head towards to get started. From what I've seen, that accounts for maybe 10% of the zone's content. Oh, and they are optional.
Get informed, hateboi.
in before haters saying "oh there's no way they can pull that off, it's too expensive to have people solely for doing that, I'll be laughing at all you fanbois while dancing on the grave of GW2 hahhahahahahha!" btw how come mmoexposed hasn't posted about how this isn't realistic and Anet can't pull this off and he's right and we're wrong and how his feelings were hurt and his heart crushed by the people on gw2guru?
Actually, you don't have to start over since you get down-leveled to whatever area you're in and you will get your ass handed to you if you just rush in blindly expecting to crush everything. Please educate yourself about the game before you post things that end up making you look ignorant.
Thats INNOVATION implement new events or things to discover DON'T tell player base let them discover it themselfs and spread word this AWESOME and again proofs how Arenanet wanne change things for the better.
TUMBS UP ARENANET!!!

Why is that a fanboy comment? Is that not how raiding works? You dont have to grind for new gear to take on the new raid? Sounded spot on to me. Endgame is GW2, in the sense you are playing it when you start. Its a hard concept for some to accept. You are not racing to get to some level to do some level specific content. Their philosophy is just play and (hopefully) enjoy what you come across.
You dont have to fast travel its an option, you can always walk but rest assured there will be times you will want to fast travel so glad its in there. The NPCs do not point out every single thing you can find. Many things will require you to physically explore an area to find something you didnt know was there before you found it.
May sound that way, but it plays even better ;-)
They are not changing what we know an MMO to be. They are simply changing the way we play an MMO, which by the way is refreshing. All MMOs prior (save Dragons Nest, Vindictus and a few others) were the same. Go to mob, rotate hotbar, rinse, repeat. Other limitations like out-levelling zones, waiting to form a group just added on.
At least with GW2 I have a different combat mechanic, while similiar to 'action' combat, is still different from say Dragons Nest and Tera to be interesting. It really forces you to engage in the battles you are taking part in.
As we always say, this type of game isnt for everyone especially those wanting to hold on to the old world. You can have it. I prefer to move on to something new.

Simply put this game give you back what games should have always been, discover it yourself and beauty of it all is its also group friendly all can join no need for getting a party or seek npc to get quest just explore and find GW2 its secrets NO HOLD HANDS NO FOLLOW THE PATH GAME TELLS YOU 2 LIKE IN WoW HEHE:)

I really hope it works out. But SWTOR burned me. I am hesitant to believe any claims these days.
People don't ask questions to get answers - they ask questions to show how smart they are. - Dogbert
Always good to be cautious. Having owned SWTOR, I wont go as far to say that BW lied but will say they didnt deliver the experience I was expecting. And I didnt even expect anything until my level was mid 20s. There is no freedom in SWTOR. You do the linear story then raid. End of line.
I also own GW2 and can tell you from experience that it offers the freedom they promised. I saw a ton of videos and can say actually playing outweighed anything that I had seen.
It really is a new take on what an MMO can be. I hope others make GW2 clones. I would love to see a space/sci-fi oriented one.
