I'm having a blast with this game, hacking and slahing my way through dungeon after dungeon with my friends on Teamspeak. The flow is nice and all in all makes a relaxing yet intense game in a strange but great mix. I can't really see what all the fuss is about.

I'm having a great time with the game as well. I am not terribly far in the story yet because I like to fully explore every corner of every dungeon, but what I have played so far has been excellent.
The combat feels great, the pace is steady, and there's plenty of loot. Good fun in my opinion.
What's not to like.....
-Online connection always required for SINGLE PLAYER, so if I am traveling I can't play D3 on the plane or in the airport or if I am just somewhere and don't want to use their wide open wi-fi.
As an added bonus, because all play must go through a B.net server, when the servers are screwed, so are you! Even wanting to play single player!
-Real money auction house for what many people play only as a single player game. First time any developer has dared tried to do this and it sucks. Gee, can't stop people from selling virtual items? Then might as well make 15% on every purchase and sale. (And Oh, btw, this is the real reason for the always required internet, not DRM, so the excuse is BS)
-No ability to choose stats or change the build of any toon. Because picking stats is too hard for people? Because choice is a bad thing? No. Because Bliz was effin lazy and wanted every single toon of a type to play exactly the same as every other toon of that type. They want you to play the game one way: their way.
-No support for LAN play, because why would anyone ever have actual friends, that might want to come over for some bbq/beer and computer gaming? Stupid design decision, really stupid, but totally in line with the Online Only and RMAH all the time and Play the Game Our Way mentality that fueled the design process for D3.
And none of that applied to D2.
How's that for a start of what's not to like?
having a blast too - best game in a long time for sure.
I suppose it all depends on your gaming background. Having played more than one fantastic game in my time, this one just isn't palatable.
Enjoyment is relative, and I'm glad for those who are having fun with it.
For me, what's not to like is the lack of controller support. Click click click click click click is not quality gameplay to me.
you should wait for the PS3 version.
Burntvet is pressing the right buttons. That's exactly what not to like.
They just wanted a D1 for theme park lovers, IMHO. How can be the third game of a saga worst than the first one? How can it be when they are just revamping D1?

False. There is plenty of stat choosing to be had from gear and gems.

Server lag which results in death...in a SINGLE PLAYER GAME. When playing with other players, I find it a bit sad that I watch them all run in the same circle I just ran to collect the gold....It's funny, but sad.
After four days of dealing with server outages so as I cannot play the game, I finally got to act 2...And killed that crazy lady....And...well...The bosses in D3 don't seem as epic as the ones in D2. That, or I've grown up. I dunno...I just wanted to be able to play a good old fashioned dungeon crawling hack n slash loot dropping game by myself and I'm stuck with server lag. AND they won't give me my money back. Fuckers. I'll never buy Blizzard again.
I've just started to do Nightmare and have already encountered several things that are different from Normal setting. You get access to the higher tiers of crafting when you start picking up the crafting pages. I've also seen a few different monster types with combined skills like Jailer and something new I saw Horder. On top of that it seemed they may of been using those powers more frequently. Finally quest, more side quest and having to do a bit more than you had to in the previous settings of quest.
I'm not going to spoil much more than that, but I see what Blizzard is doing here in this interation of Diablo and although it may be a little mainstreamed down for the fresher crowed. I think they still maintained alot of the appeal from the orignals. It's starting to show now for me and maybe the next setting will have even more things to shake up the experience.
Hope those that are playing are getting the same vibe as me, if not that's cool too. Just enjoying my time well worth the buy already..
PM before you report at least or you could just block.
someone just got owned
Obviously both Caldicot and Hayasa here approve of less "freedom". You both realize that even though you are allowing your money to speak for a considerably good game, you are also endorsing what other companies may soon seek to strip from their games as well.
No wonder why our country is going down the crapper.. xD
What I don't like is the fact that a company I used to respect and buy games from to keep me entertained, has now turned into a company I don't respect and tries to sell me games so that i can work at generating income for them. Other then that, I'm pretty sure the game is nice, and I bet the cutscenes are awesome.
Play EVE much?

I have nothing against Blizzard, they just dont make my type of games.
Not sure why everyone is expecting the second coming with D3 or any of Blizzards products though.
crying about it having to always be connected to the internet is pretty dumb unless you never intended to play on the internet at all.
i remember when i played D2 on bnet and the servers went down all the time, did i go and start over in single player mode? hell no, my characters i spent lots of time making were on the servers.
it really is a very nit picky gripe and i cant take anyone serious who actually mentions that as anything more than a very minor issue.
this is a PC game afterall......
price
while i totally agree with you...i must say that IF they stopped al the dupers and stuff with us having to play online i gladly take it.
(Altough i also wanted to be able to play it if my internet should go down for some reason).
But to be sure i can keep on gaming i will prolly buy TL2 for that reason.
I'm really enjoying myself, as well. The price certainly could have been lower, but I'm glad to have been capable of playing this game with my friends from level 1. I'm also not a fan of always online DRM, and a detractor of the Second Act (spoilers: it's just like the second act from Diablo 2), but aside from these few things I'm really digging it. Combat feels far more group oriented, bosses are far improved over the previous titles in the series, and the additions they've made to feature sets are pretty engaging, like the blacksmithing upgrades or the use of banners to teleport to other players.
Overall, while I realize it isn't perfect, I'm having a blast.

How about your friends come over and you invite them to your party on battle.net and you play together in party? O.o
That's how I'm playing with my friends... We create a party and then just play with them... Not that different from LAN mode, it's even less complicated

Yeah, but everyone usually get a lot better ping in a lan.
Choices are always better and a offline/LAN mode would still have been nice.
You see a company that took every innovative idea out there in a pile of shit, polished it to hell and gave you a mountain of cake.
Blizzard was awesome. Diablo 2 took less than half of the time it took for them to get D3, less than fucking half and with far less production costs too and look at how much of an upgrade it was from the first one.
There is no innovation in this game. You might as well be playing diablo 2 with some slight skill modifications, hate them, love them that's all they are.
When you come to expect GREAT things from a company, like WoW, D2, D1, SC, WC1-3...
When you come to see a company that has revolutionized nearly EVERY GENRE....
When you've seen this company start from three vikings to the best MMO (for me and MANY, MANY others) in history, the best RTS in history (arguably again, but WC3 still has my vote with SC in second) and one of the best online ARPGs in history (D2).. you expect something extraordinary.
This is not extraordinary. Torchlight 2, a budget game, which costs 1/3rd of the price boasts all of the features and then some of D3 without the obnoxious requirements.
The Blizzard of old would have made D3 somethign spectacular and refreshing, taking new concepts, possibly mount and blade combat to the genre by now. This new Activision-Blizzard abortion took an abandoned project, added some glitter and marketed it as a cash cow with RMAH.
To the Blizzard fans of old, like myself, this is a disgrace. No, playing Torchlight 2 won't help, because it's yet another slightly modified d2, the same of PoE etc.
No, I wanted somethign new. Something that Blizzard, the king of polish and idea refurbishing should have made in more than a decade of development.
There have been dozens of brilliant indie titles they could have tkane from. Dozens, nay, hundreds of new concepts that have entered gaming and NONE of them were implemented. None.
The Blizzard of old would have made D3 into something amazing. I would have expected no less than 3 degrees of freedom and mount and blade combat with physics etc.
That is how good the old Blizzard was; that is how they surprised and WOWED us with their games that put together the best of the industry.
This is a sequence of characters intended to produce some profound mental effect, but it has failed.
Yes sad times are among us. Diablo goes to shit and soon Elder Scrolls. How bout releasing StarCraft: Ghost, now considering you don't have to live up to the Blizzard North standards.
