WAC recruiting PVP consultants to assist with design

Wizards and Champions is a micro-budget MMORPG in development.  The base gameplay is a pseudo-Morrowind style console-like sandbox.  It is not an MMO sandbox in the literal sense in that it is not based on the UO ruleset and will not have FFA full-loot overland PVP.

Participation of the consultants is to work with Ken Fisher (developer), and with each other, towards establishing an opt-in system of overland PVP with a gameplay feel that does not conflict with free-roaming RPG.  This will also extend to determining the potential for a non-instanced non-queing zone (or zones) that auto-flags characters in the zone (possibly territory control such as the Halaa system in World of Warcraft, but details need to be worked out).

Factions are to be joinable by any race.  This is NOT race based faction PVP.

NOTE: Two servers, normal and FFA PVP should be avoided because server population will be small (it always is with micro budget Indie games) and spreading players over two servers will make both worlds even lower population.

Obviously this is not an easy task, and participants are to expect a rather difficult process of identifying and exploring options for design.  It is even more difficult given that the underlying engine is based on EQ design, and PVP designs will have to be kept sufficiently simple so that creation time is not excessive.

Requirements:

  • Ability and willingness to communicate clearly in English.
  • A mature disposition and ability to work non-disruptively in a cooperative environment.
  • At least moderate exposure to western market MMO sandboxes This list for reference, also closed games like SWG.
  • At least moderate exposure to The Elder Scrolls (preferably these three: Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim)
  • Strong Morrowind exposure is a plus.
  • Game development background is not required.
  • WAC is micro-budget and created with limited resources.  Consultant must accept that this imposes limitations.

Position is volunteer basis, and will be credited as a design consultant if the individual constructively participates.

PM with the subject "PVP consultant: YourScreenName" if interested.  A brief bio with gaming background is appropriate.  Feel free to leave questions or suggestions in this thread.

PVP design discussion will start in mid-June in the WAC forum (not currently available).

NOTE: Due to the nature of this project, my time is very limited.  I would consider promoting a consultant to help lead the PVP design process.  Please note if you would consider taking on the role of lead.  Such an individual should have management experience in working with others.  No tyrants please :-)

Ken Fisher - Semi retired old fart Network Administrator, now working in Network Security.  I don't Forum PVP.  If you feel I've attacked you, it was probably by accident.  When I don't understand, I ask.  Such is not intended as criticism.
