Depends on how you play. If your gamestyle is 1-50 in 4 weeks, yes you'll feel the grind. If you dont mind going out of your way to explore a little and dig for quests (You'll most likely have near 50 in your journal even if you try to avoid them, so its not that much of a job :p) and got good people skills (eg. fill your friendslist with people so you always got someone to nag on for teams) you wont feel the grind that much.

Come on tell him the numbers. If you left FF because of the grind you should never try this game.

At lvl 34 with no grinding. Lets say you do quests and group only some. Normal gear and no powergamer shit. Like a normal average Joe playing. These are the questions you want answered, right?

    1. How much XP do you need?
    2. How much % XP do you get from a kill?
    3. On average how much % XP do you get from a quest
    4. How long does it take to find a group
    5. And finally, how long does it take to level to 35

Unfortunately I cannot answer these questions. I haven't played since january because of the grind

If we can help you with anything else, feel free to stop by.  Personally, I put the grind in my coffee maker.

i personally dont feel the grind at all....and im level 30. as said it all depends on your play style. i take it nice a smooth, i dont rush at all (cept when it comes to hitting every 10th lvl cause they are big leaps). ive had the game since christmas and have two characters. one to 30 and one to 22. the first character you make will take you far longer to level up than all others following. after you know the game you realize how easy it is to get those lower levels. for instance, it took me almost 2 weeks to get my first (my main) up to 17. it took my wizzie (my second) 2 days because i knew what i was doing. i can honeslty say though, i had more fun doing it on my main.

so it really depends on you whether you like the rate eq2 plays at or not.

Schutzbar - Human Warrior - Windrunner Alliance - World of Warcraft
Nihilanth - Kerra Paladin - Blackburrow - EverQuest II
    XBL Gamertag - Eagle15GT

I'm gaining maybe 1 level every 2-3 days. I play for about 4-6 hours a day. I'm usually doing pickup groups and I don't have a hard time finding people who would want to party with me, being a cleric and all. I accept all requests for LFG even if they're low level. I am currently level 16, halfway to 17. This morning I was 0.5% to 17, now I am 65%. I spent about 2.5 hours in Blackburrow in order to get 50%.

EQ2 doesnt level grind like FFXI.

In FFXI you have to level up a subjob seperately from your primary job. FOr those unfamiliar with FFXI, if you have a white mage/black mage the experience you gain goes to your white mage primary job. You then need to switch to black mage/white mage in order to level up your 'sub' job. The sub job can only be half the level of your primary job meaning that if you had a 50 white mage your black mage sub job would max at level 25. The benefit to this concept is that you can use both spell groups and take advantage of inherent abilities within the jobs. At level 25 I think... been awhile, you get access to advanced jobs. Each advacned job requires a difficult quest and one specific advanced job requires multiple quests for unlocking the powers within the job. Once unlocked you then can then start an advanced job beginning at level 1. <Deep Breath>

Now that you know FFXI, IM sure other people can comment on just how unlike EQ2 it is.

I have only played the trial version, and will not buy the game until they add the spells missing from the original EQ. Specifically illusions, shape shifting, and my fav mind control. In EQ my fav class was an enchanter and the new version of that class is horribly 'stinky' in my opinion.

The EQ2 version does add more diversity to the combat classes meaning you no longer walk up to a mob click attack, then take a nap. I also really like the animations, and I hope they dont do what EQ did in regards to the weapons making one 'type' the best. Although they have limited weapons and armor to certain 'classes' which is stupid. I believe they should limit the power of all weapons based on class aka training. If your not a combat trained person then yeah you can heft a meat cleaver or a staff with about the same amount of skill, but when a warrior walks in your melee skills are gonna take an ego bash.

oh woops off subject. Yeah anyways, the way I see it is that instead of starting over at level 1 you pick a branch like warrior then advance to Samurai and eventually on to a third tier without loosing your levels or starting from scratch. More of a reward for leveling instead of a punishment which is what EQ was all about.

Don't rush it, if you do then it will be a huge grind. I know caus ei rushed my first toon and got sick of it round lvl 24. I restarted took my time, doing all kinds of crap and so far I have quite a lot of fun, also SOE changed so much that it made the game easier to lvl. If you can get in a good group then you wont notice and grind at all :)

Took me 1 week from level 1-20 (scout -> predator -> ranger).

I obviously feel a slow down now but thats expected, mmorpg arent meant to be easy. There are plenty of quests and people to group with so there isn't really any need to get bored too soon. ::::28::

    Love,
    Lord Mywyn.

I am a casual player and I have a 36 necro and a 33 inquisitor. I have been playing since release and I just randomly do quests and get into groups whenever I feel like it. MY necro is also a 22 sage or something, but I don't bother with crafting anymore. I don't need it anymore.

sooo...that's where you'l end up if you are a casual player after about 4 months. Although it should be faster now since they are continually adding more and more exp (suposed to get another boost soon) to the solo exp and small group exp gain.

I would compare it to ffx and lineage2. EQ2 feels like work to me. Takes a while to kill a monster and you barely see your xp bar move at all. Other than the grind the graphics and combat animations are the best I think. They have quest that give some good xp but doing quest in eq2 is not as easy as WOW. Im not of fan of wow either and not saying to play it :). I cant find any mmorpg that holds my interest at this time.

If I go non stop with a good group it would take me 4 hours maybe to attain lvl 27 (im lvl 26 now). I dont really play alot though, if I do I will end up getting burned out and make a new character. So I log in, see if I can get a good group within 15 mins, If I do then great, if I dont then I log off and do something else.
