Planetside 2 looks like a cross between HALO and BATTLEFIELD

BobalueBobalue Member UncommonPosts: 78

After looking at the video TB posted I  think this game looks a lot like a good cross between Halo and Battlefield just with WAY more people! Love the new jump pads too.

Haha. It's a tough thing for veterans of the series to hear, but it's something we are going to have to accept soon. There are going to be a lot of new people coming into the series this time around and that's a good thing.

But if you really want to see what they think, check out the YouTube comments on some of the videos, especially the totalbiscuit ones. One thing is for sure, I see this comparison made on nearly every single YouTube video. There are always several people making the Halo/bf3 comparison.

It's a fair comparison for someone who never saw the first game. They are just going with what they know.

Don't think of it in a negative way. It's a compliment (i think?) to be compared to two of the best selling Fps franchises.

If the game ends uo attracting that size of playerbase, we are going to be in for an awesome ride, and so are the new people.

We gotta take care of these new people, and we are going to be seeing a lot more of them very very soon.

I would think about it negatively if a common comparison was made to Call of Duty. >.>

I just hope it doesn't attract to many of the wrong types.. IE the kiddies... Im sorry say what you will about Planetside being a FPS game, but it had a really decent mature audience playing it.  That's one of the things that used to shock me about it.

Hmm...there were lots of younger players at launch. I think the perception is that it's more mature because everyone who has stuck with the community is all grown up now.

However, I think that for the game to be successful and fun, it needs a large audience.

We can't just sit up in our towers and look down upon the unwashed masses with disaproval.

This game is bigger than the first. It needs more people, and some would argue that Planetside had too small of a population after a certain point.

I think we need to welcom call of duty or battlefield players or whatever, regardless of age. The more the merrier.

Remember we were all planetside NOOBs at some point that came from other Fps games. We cannot drive people away with elitism.

If the Planetside community is really the mature group you say it is, then perhaps we should act in a mature fashion. We can't exclude people and it would be to the detriment of the game to do so.

Instead of disregarding the call of duty fan, why not welcome them with open arms? Why not educate them and train them to function in the world of Planetside?

I tell you what, instead of driving the kids back to call of duty with our elitism, why don't we make it so they never want to go back to call of duty again?

We have a chance to create an entirely new generation of Planetside fans here. Don't waste it by treating them like crap.

I remember how PS was a launch, I started over there as a VS on the old Johari server.

What I don't remember was hearing people spam "You Noob" in chat all the time or complain.  Sure people complained and other things but generally it was a much more mature commuity IE no "barrens chat"....  Perhaps that was due to the fact that you could not send messages to the other side.

I understand that this game needs more appeal this time around and I hope SOE goes out it's way to do it.  But I do not wan't the kiddie environment that you find in other games.

You don't know Planetside much friend. I'd dare say Halo stole alot of its concepts from Planetside..

And BF3 is no where near the scale that Planetside is on..

PM before you report at least or you could just block.

To me it always seemed like they both took inspiration from Unreal in concepts, if you really want to compare them like that.

Planetside took from tribes, infact it was developed by some of the same devs.

    SKYeXile
    TRF - GM - GW2, PS2, WAR, AION, Rift, WoW, WOT....etc...
    Future Crew - High Council. Planetside 1 & 2.

I started playing PS1 about a month after it launched. I actually got PS1 as a present for my 13th birthday! I did mean it as a compliment because I love both games. The physics of PS1 and PS2 look a bit different and I'm just commenting that it looks like a combination of both and I don't think PS1 really looks like a cross between either.

Planetside2 looks like a better gw2 pvp wise with real rivalry
  • ShakyMoShakyMo Member CommonPosts: 7,207
Planetside took its influences from daoc & unreal tournament, they basicly went let's merge them 2 games. Well ahead of its time.
  • MordiaziMordiazi Member Posts: 23

I really don't care if people think it's a combo of games, or if it came from DAoC (a game I loved as well) and Unreal... or if it was conceptualized when playing Toontown and Skyrim...

The maturity of the community came from the time it came out, people were a lot more polite back then... generally speaking. But if some pre-teen wants to LOLOMGL33T speak on chat, I don't care... just as long as he's killing you NC and TR fools while doing it, I'll be more than happy.

But PS1 was awesome and this game looks awesome too.

Halo most likely stole it's ideas from old games like this one:

That game was actually a flop even though it was years ahead of it's time.  So I guess no one noticed :P

Can you use an x-box 360 controller for the game? I'm a better pilot with joys than a mouse-board combo. I'm sure i can learn but would prefer to not :)

I am glad there are still beacons of hope in a gaming community. These words are what I like to hear from the Vets in every game. Although I purchased PS1 but never had a chance to play it, I know I'll try helping new people to the best of my knowledge....Even though I'll be a NooB, I know I'll learn quick and well, I know I'd be helpful to the best of my knowledge. Thumbs Up to you Sir! Too bad we'll be on different factions, but it'll be a priviledge to sportsmanly compete against you.!

Games like Halo and BF are just basic FPSs, nothing on the scale of PS.  PS2's mechanics will feel very different if they are like the first.

That would be awesome! I hope they could incorporate something like that into the game.

The difference between Halo, Battlefield and Planetside is the MMO part. Sure there will be annoying little kids only interested in twitch gameplay and tea bagging.. But SOE have a plan for them, missions to direct them to where they are needed that can be set by player commanders, incentivising team play in every aspect of the game etc. They will either get bored of getting schooled by people working in groups against them and move back to those games or fall in line and adapt their game to the MMO part and become as obsessed by the game as us old vets are.

  • BigHatLoganBigHatLogan Member Posts: 688

Hopefully it doesn't play at all like Halo...  Halo has to be by far the worst FPS I have ever played, and there are a lot of bad FPS games.

It will be nothing like Halo or battlefield.  Planetside's roots go way back to Tribes (which was long before halo or battlefield) and is a far superior FPS to both of them.

Many of the game's mechanics are based it.  The inventory stations, jetpacks, how vehicles are deployed and function, armour classes, deployables, and the way some of the bases work are all from Tribes 1 & 2.
