I had a very smooth experience, and the only lag I had was server-side, for a few spikes.

But, like you said, I am pretty sure that after optimization, the game will run fine in less powerful PCs without too many problems.
I am thinking of getting a new one as well, even though i have a pretty good computer, but two of my friends said that it ran smooth on their overclocked CPUs, i am not sure about the exact stats. I suggest waiting till they optimize it, and evaluate with your current setup then make a decision. Btw 40+ fps in mass events sounds awesome! I would love to hear if anyone experienced that.
i play in WvW (around 30-40 players i think) and sPvP and PvE and was everythin smooth except some parts on LA.
i have an i3 2120 + hd6850 + 4GB DDR3 (dont need more than 4GB for game)
i play with everything maxed
as you can see is a very cheap combo and wrk great with GW2 even not optimized for GPU use
smoothest stress test I've been a part of only I had was one DC and I can't be entirely sure that wasn't my connection, my router pooped out like 3 days later.
There are times when one must ask themselves is it my passion that truly frightens you? Or your own?
Myself and my husband and one of his friends from work had 0 lag throughout our entire Beta weekend, and no crashes. We both have very nice rigs. My mother who has a farely decent but not top of the line computer ran it flawlessly too.

I had 1 lag spike that was server side, that was is.
My FPS was a bit low due to the not-yet-optimized for gfx cards and multicore. (only 30-40 at medium settings)
Phenom 2 x4 4.0ghz

Agility SSD
8gb Kingston HyperX mem
And I have heard the last beta was better optimized for nvidia cards anyways.

I ran around with a fairly large group for the last hour or 2 of BWE killing those thunder chickens and the game ran smoothe. Only a few server side lag spikes. Same goes for the testing day.
Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.
Reserving a slot for lag-free play, but will have to get home for full system specs.

Game ran like shit. This game is far from optimized. While it may run good on some machines, it doesn't on others, so Anet still has a lot of work to do.
what my sig says...
edit: btw... they keep saying that the game is not yet optimzed for sli.. but when playing i had both my 560 at 67% all of the time.
got to say... best utilize of sli ive seen in a long time.

Lagfree is a big word. I did experience some lag in WvW when the central castle was under attack from multiple sides and the action of the whole map was taking place there. But this was probably server lag because I didn't see a drop in fps nor experienced any movement lag / glitches only sometimes suddenly a group of fiends was there that I didn't see approaching while monitoring surroundings.
My machine specs:
Asus P8Z68 V-pro rev.2 (mobo)
Intel Core I7 2600K (cpu)
Asus EAH6970 DCII/2DI4S/2GD5 (GPU)
2x4 GB DDR3 Corsair Vengeance C8 (mem)
Intel X25-M 80Gb SSD
Win 7 Home Premium x64
All running on stockspeed, I undo my OC's before playing a beta with a non-optimized client.
I played the first BETA weekend lag free as a north american player on a European server. I had one lag spike since they updated the servers on the saturday. I had slight slowdown in WvWvW when the big zergs fought but it wasn't a real problem as i was still able to do what i wanted, i attributed this to graphical slow down. I have an Alienware PC with 2 295 GTX cards.

I will play no more MMORPGs until somethign good comes out!
My laptop played smoothly on Medium settings ("balanced" in menu). I never had any distracting hitching or slow down.
This is with the GPU being unused. I'm not worried about the performance. Only people that don't do any research to discover that the engine isn't using the GPU nor has it been optimized, are freaking out.

i had a few server side probs also. but ran smooth through all events except 1. (my server side prob)

Might be driver issues, did you try changing drivers?

You're saying lagfree is 40+ fps. This doesn't really make sense to me because lag is the delay in communication between your computer and the server, and doesn't have that much to do with the amount of frames per second your graphics card can churn out.
Either way, I was playing pretty much completely lagfree during the whole beta so far. I may have had like 500 ms lag for a couple of minutes, but considering I played for like 60 hours total, that's rather negligible.
As for the fps, I didn't actually keep track of it, but I had a pretty smooth experience, so I guess it didn't drop below 25 at any point. I do know I had about 40 fps in the big cities, because that's the only time I bothered checking. I had several graphics settings very high, like shaders, shadows and textures, but set all the others to minimum (they didn't really seem to do much anyways).
I was playing on my Asus laptop with an i5, 4GB RAM and a Nvidia Geforce GT 540M (2GB).
"I'll lead, you follow."
No lag issues (or any other technical issues) for BWE or stress test
i5 2500K
HIS Radeon 6950 HD 2GB
16 GB DDR3 RAM
My wife's laptop had issues displaying the game properly but I found out (after stress test) that the stupid switchable graphics was set to integrated, not the good card. I will test that next BWE.
Edit: BTW I have 1.5 Mbs DSL (way lame, I know) and the game ran smoothly even with others using the same modem.
You want me to pay to play a game I already paid for???
Be afraid.....The dragons are HERE!
This. I wish people would stop to call pretty much everything "lag". It's completely misleading.

While I did enjoy a lag free BWE and lag free stress test, I cannot help but find it funny that you ask for people to post if they were lag free, then talk about FPS....
Lag and low FPS are not the same thing
A creative person is motivated by the desire to achieve, not the desire to beat others.
"but considering I played for like 60 hours total, that's rather negligible."
...
how's the girlfriend?
he want to know about fps but he instead say lag, but he can correct me if i wrong
. about lag i was absolutely free on stress test, on BW i have some serious lag in begining but they correct that.
