Action Aion?

NitthNitth Member UncommonPosts: 3,904

So I was following this game abit a couple of years ago, Until it completely dropped off my radar because of the lack of information being posted at the official forums...

However, Apparently there is going to be a $25 sale of the game coming up soon and if it looks ok i may pick it up depending on a few things..

Looking at the videos and such its kinda giving me the impression that its just Aion with Action combat? For the record i thought there was nothing wrong with Aion but its getting a little bit too far in the tooth for me the old "Quest-Grind-Road to endgame" type of mmorpgs.

So what features does this game possess out of the box besides the Action combat?

I would say if you are tired of Aion then pass on Tera.

Aion has more content and mroe things to do than Tera. Having said that, Tera has a (in my opinion) better more open world, the huge monster fights and of course the combat allows players to take on more difficult opponents with an actual chance of winning.

But all the quests (and there are a lot) are kill X quests.

To my opinion both games are good games, although each game has its flaws and weaknesses. I played Aion now for nearly 3 years, leveled up several chars to 55 and barely had to do unnecessary repeatative things to level up. Never I did dailies more than once or twice. Main flaw for me is the huge amount of skills and skillbars, and very gear depending. But hey, I had all the time fun and even now I sometimes jump inside to speak old friends.

Tera is nice too ....playing it since beta.... Better graphics ...interesting combat system. Its too different from Aion to say its just an action Aion. For me personally Tera is a little bit more boring, the typical Aion tension is not hanging here. Maybe caused by the combat system.......chance on dying is quite little here. However, its still a nice game to spend the times with until a new and better game comes (GW2 for me in this case). Playing a new game is always refreshing after playing a game many years and many hours a day, even if its only a go in between. For me Tera is this way.

Played: Guild Wars, AoC, Lotro, CoH, Warhammer, Tabula Ras, Spellborn, Second Life, Rift, Aion, Tera.
    Playing: Guild Wars 2, WoT

Tera combat is way more fun than Aion's (standing still fighting image), but there isn't that much else to it, at least that I've seen so far.

I played Aion a little and I have to say that what content it has sucks.

TERA may look a little like Aion style wise, but it's really a big step forward graphically and gameplay wise.

I found Aion to have the grindiest quests ever in any MMO I've ever played.  TERA has lots of those quests, like all themeparks, but also has cutscenes and story related instances and dungeon encounters every 2 or 3 levels.  Quest-wise it's much more akin to LOTRO, which people raved over for its story questline, but somehow don't realize the same basic thing exists in TERA.

Plus, the combat is just so much more fun that even if the quests were as bad as Aion, it still would be better.

Shame but combat mechanics dont make mmo an mmo. If You are anything like me (tired of grinding, mindless quests, and generally games that are lvl/gear>all) then stay away from Tera. Everything whats in there is old and i have been playing all this crap since 2000. Its just combat system.... but doing 800 "kill x mobs" quests isnt any fun simply coz of new combat mechanics.

The quests for Aion are very similiar to Tera. they are kill X quests. Not to say there isn't some variation but Aion also had cutscenes and story related intstances. I think Tera's are a bit better in that they seem to be more cinematic when they have them.

Aion's quests are kill x quests same as Tera's and same as lotro. I would say, being a person that usually readds ALL the quests that the writing for lotro is better than Aion and Tera and that the writing in Aion was overall better than Tera.

I don't read the Tera quests becasue I find them drab. I'd agree the combat in Tera is far better than Aion but that is also a personal preference, not realy having anything to do with whether or not Aion's tab targetted combat is atrocious or not.

I'll give a shout out to Tera's open dungeons which Aion and even to a certain extent LOTRO don't have enough of.

As a point of note, on release I played Aion a lot with my highest character somehwhere in the 50's.

So what game are you playing that doesn't have killx quests or emphasis on gear or level?

You're right it is pretty much the same as all MMOs, which means having a fun combat system puts it over the top.

The only MMO that promises to be any different is GW2 but it's DE system has yet to be determined if it works and is fun yet.  Or games like Archeage which promise a sandbox but also have yet to be determined if it works and is fun yet.
