And by the middle of next year, dozens of F2P Diablo-clones. It's becoming a new law of physics.
Eh. Not very likely. Even TL2 can't offer a lot of teh things Blizzard can like dedicated servers and auction houses. Part of D3's appeal is teh massive number of people playing and the knowledge that there will always be lots people to play with years after release.
I fail to see how "the massive number of people playing" in a game like D3 means anything. You're limited to a tiny group while actually playing, not to mention many people play solo. Is it a psychological thing?

As long as it's high quality games like Diablo 3 that are selling well I have zero problems with that.
I wish I could say the same, but seeing D3 sales skyrocket I'm afraid we're gonna see more of these always online games from now on. It will simply mean that the game I supposedly bought isn't entirely my ownership. I can only play it until they allow me to. Say goodbye to reinstalling your favorite games from decades past.
But I'm still hoping it wouldn't come to this.
It already has my friend. For better or worse this is the future. I personally dont like it or agree with it, but I accept it for what it is. With the exeption of a few indie developers or small studios this will be the norm. But it is a free market, no is forcing the consumer to buy these products.
I buy them because I want to play them, its $60 bucks, which isnt much to me. But for some I can see their point.
Blizzard + Diablo + Global popularity = regardless of the gameplay, it would've done this. It is one of the buggiest games in history.
I have yet to find anything buggy about the actual game.
Now the battlenet servers on the other hand...different story of course.
I was partly referring to the server issues yeah. But there are plenty of bugs such as being able to wield 3 weapons at a time if you manipulate your items in a certain way, AH eating people's items and money etc.
Sad that people would support such intrusive DRM and repetitive gameplay that insists you repeat the same content over and over again.
1) online SP game is GOOD. No cheating. I support it 100%.
2) Hmm ... not more repetition than MMO end games. Plus, the dungeons/ areas are random, and if i am having fun fighting DIFFERENT random groups, i really don't care about repeating quests.

Why would you care if someone cheats in their single player game?

Not really good news for gaming in general. Shows rehashing, spending 9 years to make a hack n' slash game is acceptable. Blizzard is lucky their fans are so loyal. For a game that took this long to make (a single player, 2D hack n' slash game at that) it didn't really impress me..and I grew up playing D1 which then transitioned into UO so I'm a sucker for 2D.
If ANY other game/company had the issues they were having they would be slaughtered in public. Good thing they have a lot of weight to throw around.
Very impressive numbers. I have to congratulate their marketing department. Blizzard should thank the games press too. I find it very interesting how this evolved.
I wonder what kind of person the average buyer is.
I mean Call of Duty has these kind of numbers (cross platform) and I imagine the average COD buyer to be a 18 year old with a cap worn backwards. Who doesn't really keep up with gaming news and reviews and such. And is an idiot.

hehe you can take this one to the bank.
Mcdonalds sell a lot because it is easy on pockets, can you say the same for video games? terrible analogy.
Must be so damn hard to swallow that hurt ego and admit that maybe Diablo 3 is actually a good game.

yeah, because I keep world secrets on my gaming PC.... /facepalm
1.2 million actually
"All expectation leads to suffering" Buhhda
Diablo 3 sales just confirms more of how well you can sell a game just on IP alone, makes me worrisome more and more for ESO.
Well the game is doing relatively well in Metacritic so all the doom and gloom naysayers are the severe minority it seems like.
Has the WoW-killer arrived?
No.
D3 isnt an mmo
Damn, those are some amazing numbers. I can't wait to see what happens with the RMAH.

Have you played anything from Bethesda? Granted, I've not set foot in D3 yet, but I've not been hearing much about bugs.
I want a mmorpg where people have gone through misery, have gone through school stuff and actually have had sex even. -sagil

So far no bugs for me, except server disconnects.
Plus, while 6.3M is impressive, it is not 10M yet (although it will get there soon).
It is not a MMO, but it is an MMO kind of game. How about WOW guilds are moving (or taking a break) from WOW to D3?
Why would you care if someone cheats in their single player game?
Maybe because it's not ONLY single player?
Come on people, it's called a brain, use it!
Separate them. It's called a brain etc.
I knew it would be a big seller but this number suprised me O.o
Id love to see the numbers in a month
Great.

Well Diablo games have always been fun to play and half the world did wait 12yrs for this to release so it makes sense that it has huge sales.
