MMO with good Stealth/Assassin type class/gameplay

jimmydatwinjimmydatwin Member UncommonPosts: 68

Hi All looking for a MMO with a fun stealth/assassin type class.  Can be pay to play or FTP.

I have been playing Skyrim with an Assassin character and made me want to see what my options for stealthy mmo type character.  Would like something with open world PvP (would like to gank from stealth).  I don't want an overpowered stealth class, but would like to be have a good advantage if I sneak up with skill,  but if I get caught out of stealth I would expect to die against most classes.

Also would like a game with a decent population (doesn't need to be huge) and meaningful PvP would be a huge bonus Guild vs Guild, Faction vs Faction or anything that gives a good reason to PvP.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I'll throw one out there, DaoC.

Yes it's 11 years old, and it can be a bit rough once you hit end game as an assasin to really be effective, but in the Battlegrounds, man are they a freaking blast. I'll throw down some goods and some bads on the game for end game, i'll try and leave BGs out as much as possible, cause those are a complete different feel to the way it's played...

The good, 3 Faction, all different classes, no mirrored copies. The Dps system, 3 melle type dps (Crush, Slash, and Thrust), each dps type effects different armors with more/less dps, so heavy armor is weak to crush, but Very resistant to pierce, so if you are pierce you are going to have a rough time dropping tanks (with exception of high Realm Rank Assasins).

Then you have Magic dps, which poisons fall under... There is 9 different magic dps types, and each class generally focuses on about 3 dps types, but you mainly spec into one (as casters), but for poisons, they are general body or spirit dps. Poisons are the life of the assasin, they debuff, snare, poison, disease, insta DD or even AoE mez for 10 seconds based on which you choose, so a HUGE variation there.

Races. Plenty of these, and each one does VASTLY different things than the next. Simply because of the trait system. Lets say you have a Celt Nightshade (Hibernia's assasin). You would want to go more into blades (slash dps) because you have higher Strength than the other races that can be Nightshades, where a Lurikeen would want to go pierce, higher Dexterity. So not only is it about what class/spec, but also what race you play determines your dps effectiveness.

Assasins get multiple spec lines, they are a burst dps dealer (again, exception of high Realm Rank Assasins). they get in, kill a caster/healer/light support class really fast, and try to get out. Or you can go solo and try to find other solo'ers but let me tell you, the assasin game in this game is crazy intense. So high DPS out put so fast, If i get swarmed by 2-3 assasin classes on my heavy tank, i will die a quick death.

Now that is a SUPER over generalization of the game, i can list on and on and on, but for the assasin part, i'll stick with that.

    Now the bad....

    Its been out 11 years....

That means clunkier graphics (Still good IMO).

High realm ranks assasins hit freaking hard, and can take some serious dps too, so at end game you will find yourself getting ganked really fast, but BGs even out very fast to, as there is a RP cap, so once you get nearer to that RP cap, you will be more even.

Templates... This is the biggest nack, but it can also be fun. Templates is just a custom made set of armor/items. Some player crafted, some dropped off mobs, you get the point, get the right combo, you're a bad ass.

Again, SUPER generalized, but a good game IMO. Check it out, the assasins rock, and are difficult to master.

I played DAOC for a few years and loved the game.  I had an Armsman and a Cleric both in the 40 range. It was a blast.

The only thing I didnt like was experience loss when you died when dungeon crawling or questing.  You can play all night and die a few times and you feel like the night was wasted.  I used to get so frustrated wth that.

Is that still in the game?

Rift has awesome Assassins. You can stealth in stun a guy kill his friend and then use the slip away skill to vanish into the shadows. Tons of fun in open world PVP.

I have to second this. If I hadn't been so tired of the theme park game mold at the time Rift launched, I would have kept playing it simply due to its awesome rogue class design.
