Great game but collision detection...

dimasokdimasok Member UncommonPosts: 183

I love the combat and the graphics, but the collision detection is simply horrible! Every monster, every door, every object in the environments clip. I am tired of clipping through BAM legs, monsters walking through CLOSED doors, fighting monsters through WALLS, etc It is the worst clipping i've ever seen in a game.

I complained to En Masse (along with a Nexus complaint too which you will see below) and they said it's a new bug and they will submit a report. Yeah right.

The whole game was made with the no-clip option on! No collision detection whatsoever!

Here's the transcript:

image GM The.Great.Heyzeus: Hi, my name is GM The.Great.Heyzeus. How may I help you?
image dimasok .: hi i had 2 questions
image dimasok .: first of all, Frogster just turned on Nexus in EU. when are we getting that?
image GM The.Great.Heyzeus: i have no info on the inner workings of Tera EU
image dimasok .: but when is the nexus coming for NA tho?
image GM The.Great.Heyzeus: i can not give a eta on that
image GM The.Great.Heyzeus: none has been posted
image dimasok .: next i wanted to ask if you are doing anything at all about the clipping issues in the game. yesterday when i died i FELL through a texture and couldnt fight and had to resurrect after the whole team was wiped in the dungeon. Also, the whole game has issues with clipping in every area especially in dungeons. It seems like it was made with "no clip" option "on". is anything being done about that?
image dimasok .: its so "in your face" everywhere that it simply detracts and hurts the gameplay especially when monsters walk through CLOSED doors at every opportunity. there is NO collision detection whatsoever!
image GM The.Great.Heyzeus: ok, would you be willing to go to the support page and submit a ticket to be reviewed
image GM The.Great.Heyzeus: sounds like a new bug
image dimasok .: I am not merely talking about this instance yesterday. I am saying that monsters walk through doors EVERYWHERE.
image dimasok .: I can replciate this with 100 percent success in every single area
image GM The.Great.Heyzeus: due to the fact it is a new bug i can not instruct how to repair the info
image dimasok .: if u want me to submit a ticket i can but it it is not limited just to me. i dont think others really pay that much attention to it but to me its really horrible. this is not a bug.. this is a collision issue for the whole game
image dimasok .: Honestly, if that was isolated i wouldnt care
image dimasok .: but every area I go to, I clip through monsters, through doors, dungeons, etc
image GM The.Great.Heyzeus: i will escalate the chat we are on and you will be emailed when the answer has been developed
image dimasok .: ok thank you

    Here's a question:

Why are you asking gm's questions on development? I've seen this before and in some cases the players seemed entitled and rude.

They dont' have any answers for you. They are game masters.

I should feel entitled since I bought the game and I pay monthly.

Also, if not the GMs, who should I ask? This no clipping issue is annoying as hell and the devs themselves are not forthcomign with information so I'd rather ask someone rather than noone.

Yep you buy the game and paiy by monthly but still a game masters is not dev, he is not there for that. If you have question about developpement go ask the dev in the forum section for it.

Yes, you are entitled to customer service. you are not entitled to get your answers from anyone you feel like it. The real crux of this is that you wanted answers NOW and then you went to the only source where you could immediatley get a live person, regardless of their ability to give you an actual real answer.

what most likely will happen is after a few days or so you will get some party line taht they are always looking into ththings or are working on it and that will be that.

The way they walk through doors in dungeons is intentional, if you can't see why that seems really silly on your part... it's unfortunate you bothered a GM about an obvious answer.

The bosses are huge, but the doors/pathways are not and making the doors big enough to accomodate the monsters would be pretty odd.

So to avoid people just pulling the boss out of it's chamber to a doorway and ranging it until it's dead safe from harm, they can simply walk through those walls...

Edit:However, in your defense, I noticed in some spots mobs can walk through doors that raise up and down on a timer, if you have aggro and you run through as the door closes they will still pass through. Not sure if this was intentional or not, probably not.

If the office was located nearby would you have walked in and pressed the receptionist for an answer?

This GM could have and should have told you to file a petition and called it a day.  Instead, he not only stated that he would escalate the chat but that they would email you when they have an answer.

Actually, I sort of thought it might be working as designed in this regard, most games don't let you kite bosses by letting physical obstructions stop them.

The OP has just discovered the meaning of the word "clip" in reference to video game development, and decided to use it in a rant against a GM about things that he does not, and cannot know.

Why are you giving him a hard time? Sometimes you get an answer like, "Yeah we are aware and working on it." A gm is as close to a dev as you'll ever be able to talk to. He didn't asy the GM response was bad.

This topic confused me aswell seeing him asking dev. qeustions to a gamemaster.

I do understand his complaint and perhaps this new gen. of players don't really understand whats a gm is for, dunno really

    easy.

Because if you read his transcript he comes across as demanding to someone who is just there to assist people with regular day to day things. then, after he get the only answer that the gm can give him (which is more than most would give hime he says:

I complained to En Masse (along with a Nexus complaint too which you will see below) and they said it's a new bug and they will submit a report. Yeah right.

So really, nothing that this gm, who had any authority to give him any real info let alone know the answers to any of his questions, said would have satisfied.

Yes that last part you edited is one of the things I observed in the temple of dagon. I also updated my ticket to reflect that scenario.

To anyone says i'm demanding I dont think so. Again, a GM is the closest you can get the developers and I thanked him didn't i?!

  • PivotelitePivotelite Member UncommonPosts: 2,145

I did notice that in the temple of dagon in particular, although it's not much of a big deal to me, those open world instances with opening/closing doors are few and far between.

You are asking too much, you cant expect a game that was just released here...and a game released almost 1 1/2 years ago in Korea to be near the quality of other newly released games made by good companies. Its unfair.

Dont listen to them. You are a customer, you have the right to demand anything you want or ask any question you want. Never just accept mediocre products.

You're pretty annoying with your negativity all the time...

But you're right, how dare TERA, the mediocre MMO, only provide free server transfer on launch, an unstuck button, dungeon finder, actual GMs that talk to you, UI customization and armor dying/basic remodelling, those basic things SWTOR couldn't even provide with it's enormous budget. Doesn't matter if it's been out in Korea, it's here now, not then.

Also, in Korea it was launched early as hell thanks to NCsoft pushing it out the door.

Between the 'Yeah right' in the OP and his contention that he paid 15 bucks therefore a GM owes him an answer, his entitlement was rather clear. If explaining the reality of the encounter is 'giving him a hard time', so be it.

image - Sometimes I just feel bad for GMs, this was just posted everywhere by some guy really mad over $12.50, imagine having to deal with people like this all day. x.x

This is like going to a clothing store and buying a bunch of clothes and wearing them for three weeks and then they have a discount sale and you walk back in and demand you get refunded the difference between the regular price you payed three weeks ago and the current sale.

Good read though, the guy posted it on forums expecting everyone to agree with him, he actually made the post complaining EMEs customer service is bad because of this chat he had with TWO GMs, since when did all the gamers become so entitled. -.-

The best part is him saying "you won't give me a measly 12.50 to satisfy me" well, you see, if they did that for him, they'd have to do it everybody.

Oh and the GM saying "your welcome" after he goes on his tirade about posting it everywhere. xD

    pretty much this...

How do people have such unrealistic expectations when it comes to customer service?

En masse goes above and beyond.  Totally unreal the things people can find to complain about.

Still though I have to admit sending a newsletter to customers that have already bought the game urging them to buy it for a 25% discount is pretty damn underhanded. They should have a way of filtering people who already bought the game to avoid such frustration instead they shoot themselves in the foot by sending it to everyone.

So whether the OP was right or not is irrelevant - you just don't do that En Masse.

    That I can agree with.

They should have done some sort of trial thing to bring in more players and then after a time done discounts.

I guess?  However, most people who buy a computer product know that its out dated as soon as you leave the store, be it soft ware or hardware.  Why is this game any different?

Most software has sales to try to increase interest, this is very standard pratice.

I mean I guess it sucks you were in some way 'offended' they sent an email to you when its not applicable, but I mean it all seems really obvious to me...
