Rumours abound, gossip bends around corners of hidden sanctuaries. Pssstt is it true they ask? Is it really happening. Speculative realism at work? Those superior thinking, highly intelligent, enlarged brain skull types - that just happened to end up playing Rift - are leaving? She nods softly affirming the scandelous truth. "Anyone with a decent size of brain is departing soon for golden fields afar". "Did you not see the displaying signs of ennui and flagging interest, and the hint to various guildies that a change might soon be expected?" she asked. The reabsorption into a better gaming life will be a painful and difficult process. The loss of over two years creates more complications than can be imagined, and the case of the Gifted Rifters ase there will be countless matters to be adjusted. Dreams and disturbed feelings will gain on them, some will have to drop their regular work. "But .. but .. but they are surely not leaving our sinking ship for GuildWars2?" "Oh no, no, she quickly retorts". Well? "You don't want to know how to level faster, get more items and gold, and have a powerful character that others envy?". "I want to know where all the gifted and talented Rift players are heading" he hisses in reply. You don't want to learn about some of the most secretly guarded exploits, cheats and available dupes in the elite gaming community? "No. Tell me, tell me, tell me", insists Dave (California), stamping his feet obstinately. "Dave you are loosing your mind", she declares. "And all over the inevitability of those super smart friends of yours leaving the Rift". She walked solemnly towards the exit. writhing in guilty agony, frantic to save the Rift whose peril every moment grows, and vainly striving to shake off this unnatural dream of a house of stone and brick south of a sinister swamp and a cemetery on a low hillock; the Star, evil and monstrous, leers down from the black vault, winking hideously like an insane watching eye which strives to convey some strange message, yet recalls nothing save that it once had a message to convey. Is it just me or do Death Rifts resemble Star-Spawn opening a tear into their dimension? "They wanted stability", she thought. Gossip monger that she is, tentatively departs with a whispered reading of The Rats in the Walls.

Tell me please i am about to give this game another try, is it worth it or should i wait for other MMORPGs? I get kind of mixed feelings when looking around the web about Rift nowadays ... I tried Tera which is not bad game, but i just do not enjoy in their fantasy world (the combat is great thow). Anyway thanks for answers..
Pozdrav iz Slovenije (Hello from Slovenia)!
Rift is always a good thing 2 try, currently its one of the mmo's I have played for the longest in years.
Amazing game, great crowd awesome fun
And with conquest imminant it should be a blast :P
cheers
I would wait to see how the 3 faction pvp plays out, and see if rumors of an expansion are true, best to play when others go back as well. But Guild Wars 2 could may deal a massive blow to the game, it looks in most ways better really, combat will be closer to TERA, the combat in Rift is too close to WoW for my tastes. Still, give it a bash if you can get the client cheap.
Ya, Rift is good. It is fun and have a good bit to do. Way more so than Tara, not as much as your older mmos like WoW, EQ1/2. Devs seem to loss content with better graphics...thats my rule of thumb..sab but true. The better the graphics, the weaker the game.
This said, Rift is fun and can keep you busy for about a year (depending on the time you put into it).
Rift is a great game to play, highly polished .only downside is typical quest hubs, boring crafting.credit where its due though.Trion keep banging out the content and you have to applaud them for that.especially since they dont charge for all the content they add. There is more than enough to keep peeps going for a while though content wise.
You can play for free up to level 20.
Pozdrav iz Slovenije. Nostalgia is a hidden desire for something excellent ... like the DAoC gamers. My dear Slovenian friend, the rumours are that Rift is dying slowly, the players with intelligence, strategic minds, great skill and role playing talents are ALL leaving ... yes, I repeat the obscure and partly concealed statistics all demonstrate that Gifted Rifters are departing in a silence. Do you know where they are going to? No, not back to WoW, they never played WoW in the first place. They are going on to a new game with 3 fractions played in the underworld .... played with magickal tenor. Can you guess where our fellow Rifters are heading for?
The answer is only one i guess The secret world;)! i ve been looking forward to that one as well! I just hope Funcom learned something from previous titles, cause this could be And now for something completely different kind of mmorpg game i have been looking for some time.. Fingers crossed!
People still play Rift? Who knew, go figure.

I said the same thing until i logged on a trial account and damn near all the US servers were on medium/high pop. Sure they condensed servers but the population seems much mroe active than a game like SWTOR.
Playing: Nothing
Looking forward to: Nothing
And you're here to put more wind into that rumor's sails, aren't you?
You're describing something that's happened in all MMOs every day, all the time, for years, and are attempting to spin it as though it's some kind of major event in Rift.
People leave MMOs all the time for a variety of reasons, as they have for years. Yes, even the "gifted ones" as you so pretentiously phrase it. Believe it or not, no matter how "special" you or others may think it is, GW2 is just another MMO on the market. It will have its moment in the spotlight, and then diminish to become another MMO on the list. It will attract players like any other one does. It will turn away players like any other one does. It will leave players indifferent or passively curious, just like any other one does. In other words, it will have the same effect on the gaming population as a whole that any other MMO has.
The narrow-minded, one-dimenional thinking demonstrated by some on this topic never ceases to amaze. Anytime a new game is coming out, it's assumed that it must be the center of everyone's gaming universe, and that people leaving other MMOs must be to play it instead. It happens with every single new MMO launch of any note. A recent case in point is TOR where we saw exactly the same routine play out. Now it's GW2's turn. Who knows which one it will be next.
I dont think they are referencing GW2...
...the style of writing and sense of simmering grandeur bespeaks a world far more secret.
such a silly thread, people stop playing games all the time because EVERYTHING, no matter what, gets old when you've been doing it for a long time and just because for example some guy called joe awesome leaves doesn't mean that the game is instantly doomed to fail.
Also your point about "gifted rifters" leaving is very pretentious, you may not believe this but there is always someone better then you or joe awesome or even myself for that matter.
Nah it is not silly thread and i dont think it is refered only for Rift but more likely to all MMORPG games released in recent years ... Inteligent and skilled players Slavoj mentioned who are leaving this game are probably people that played some of older MMORPG games and are looking for that extra something they experienced years ago. That something surely can't be found in modern themepark MMORPG games, so that is why mass exodus of people mentioned happens every time a new MMORPG title comes out. And really i dont think it is about GW2 but more for TSW..
I made it halfway through before my eyes exploded. That OP needs some work.
I know, I know. We were all happy and passing around carrot cake earlier, but I had to. Really. I did.
I want a mmorpg where people have gone through misery, have gone through school stuff and actually have had sex even. -sagil
Apparently the OP and many of his fellow Rifters are soon to be ex-rifters when The Secret World launches. Perhaps implying it is a thinking person's game ...which it is... but to a smaller degree than most seem to think. Still...see you there.
LOL
Me too.
"The Rats in the Walls" (A Lovecraftian short story) was alluded to in the OP along with stating GW2 was not what it was referencing. Definitely TSW.
Really? I just checked tonight.. EU servers during prime time had 5 servers MEDIUM all the rest were LOW... it's now after 6pm EST, and only a few are MEDIUM and th rest are LOW.. I have kept an eye on Rift off and on , for giggles and POP's hardly ever HIGH....... Just saying.. LOL
It's silly in my eyes, wasn't stating a fact but rather my opinion should probably have made that clearer.
Also you seem to think that, just like the OP, because someone who is good at a game leaves then everyone has to leave or does so. That is the sort of sheep mentality that makes a "mass exodus" happen and certainly isn't because joe awesome is having a break from the game or went to play other stuff because he got bored after playing it X years straight.
also like i partly stated in my first post, people get bored of doing the same thing. That does not neccesarily mean the same game; it can be the model or any number of features that bores the crap out of them like combat or w/e.
I find it funny that you mention people looking for that bit of nostalgia too because if they did their research they wouldn't have to waste their money on every single game that is coming out. If they did they knew exactly what was waiting for them when "game name here" released.
In the end whenever it's nostalgia only the original game wins so you either get past it and move on or stick to the erhm...."delusional" idea that something JUST like your game might come out SOME day.
