Great game, but how's pvp?

Another sandbox descends upon the world. This one has even amazing thempark features like the quests and how they work. Social skills has well, and even FPS combat if one wants, if i'm not mistaken. Simply amazing stuff.

So, the question to be asked, has always with any sandbox i guess, how is the pvp going to be handled in this game? Open world again, or restricted to specific zones. RVR or BG type systems. If owpvp, what mechanics will there be to stop players from killing players and destroying cities without controll. Death penalty? And what is there to allow newer or weker, losing players to fight back at stronger ones (i guess the 2 npc factions, which is good)?

Anything to keep strategy the name of the game?

*Sorry, i can't find any information about this, not even in the main site*

There are numerous threads on the forums that deal with pvp, but I'll give it to you in a nutshell.

PvP will be optional in early areas (self flagging only) and open in later areas.  The exact percentages have not yet been finalized, and probably won't be until the devs get a lot of tester feedback.

The city siegeing mechanics are still being tweaked.  There is an entire thread on that, plus a lengthy discussion about effective ways to handle the mehcanics in the 5/16 Ask the Devs thread.  As of right now those mechanics aren't finalized, but if you have some suggestions go the Repop site and weigh in on the topic.  The devs really listen and take the players suggestions into account.  Honestly, it's like nothing I've ever seen before.

Also, there is a very distinct possibility of a hardcore server at launch.  It would be open world and contain corpse looting.

I think the self flagging in the open world is the way to do it and certain areas where you get automatically flagged for PVP just like in Star Wars Galaxies would be the way to go it worked well for them , a hardcore server for the FFA PVP crowd would work also for those who are into that sort of thing BUT as long as they seperate the 2 server rule sets I think people wouldnt mind it that way , that way everyone wins and there is no problems .

I would note on a hardcore server if your going to do FFA PVP and corpse looting I would try and take a page from EVE Online where you can have FFA PVP in low sec and null sec but have the main terrorities pretty much under security status and guarded with a CONCORD type police  where new players can at least build up a character without being harrassed by highly developed toons and guilds . I think they did a brillant job this way and when those players on the hardcore servers are ready to venture out into the low and no security areas they will be ready and compete for land or terrority and resources.
