Dayz is the main reason for getting arma 2. But, I do expect the game itself to be pretty good too and there is another mod called PR(Project Reality) that I used to play in BF2 alot and they are in Arma 2 also
ARMA II is bar none the best military simulator on the market. Huge open worlds combined with accurately simulated military equipment make this game a winner all the way around. This game may not have the fancy graphics quality of games like COD or BF3 but that is the trade off they had to make to not confine the player to small maps and a Corridor-Cut Scene-Corridor game layout. Not that the graphics are all that bad however. The game maps in this game are absolutely huge and the base game plus the expansions play like no other shooter on the market. I've been playing it for well over 2 years at this point and the game still has plenty of replay value even after all this time.
This game is the spiritual successor to Operation Flashpoint, one of the best FPS's of all time and it doesn't disappoint. This game is everything OF was magnified by a factor of ten. Great game that doesn't get nearly the credit it deserves.
in the process of downloading Arma2 pack and then the Mod. Cant wiat to try it. Would love to get together with people sometime to experience some group play and not have to worry about friend or foe lol. Ease up a small fraction of the stress lol. Will check back here often.
From what i have seen i really hope this is goin to be a blast.
There are a truck load of other good mods for Arma II OA. So it's a good purchase, even when Dayz starts to get old. That's the way I look at it at least. Project Reality, Invasion 1944, Takistan Life, City Life = all kick ass free mods.
Great Game. I have had a blast. Never have i been so scared to not go to a town. I dont care if i die. Its part of the fun. I died in 10 mins my first time because i didnt know how to bandage
took over an hour for my next death. still on life number 3 and been at that one for almost 3 hours now. teamed up with a guy who has been playing for a good bit so im learning the ropes on how to play.
Since DayZ is alpha . alot of patch going on for it. so u better get this to keep it updates
its will always keep up arma 2 dayz up to date same for all other Mod*. if u buy it from steam u should disable the auto updates after installation and all updates installed too

I LOVE THIS GAME!
lol 2 zombies attacked me on the beach about 10 minutes in. i bled to death. good times!!!
I cheked out some videos. It looks alright, but its just an alpha mod. Its not beta or release or anything. Still lots of bugs and glitchers. If this DayZ was remade into its own game thatd be awesome. But I dont see enough in it to buy ArmaII for it.
There is no difference if you buy Arma and install the mod or buy a standalone game and you would miss a lot more content from the main game and from the massive amount of community mods, it would be just the same game since Arma is the sandbox engine.
But it is really amazing that Arma 2, released in 2010, beats Max Payne 3 in the charts.
Geez, I just found out about this game two days ago and I must say it looks like it's full of win. The gameplay videos are insane lol.
Just might have to give it a shot.

I thought the same thing. But I bought it anyway because my friends were playing. It looks like crap, the AI are crap, the interface is crap, its buggy as crap.
And I cant stop playing. And when I'm not playing, I'm thinking about playing. Even had a few related dreams (nightmares) about the game. This game (MOD) is a true gem, and if you decide not to play your seriously cheating yourself out of an experience in gaming that you never had. At least, I havent.
EDIT: I have not posted in these forums in months and even forgot my password, but I did a password renewal just to post this in hopes that you change your mind.

I'm thinking about waiting until they're ready to call it a release version. With how well its doing, that must be on the way, right? Has there been any info on that?
When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

There have been rumors, Arma3 may support it but as far as a single release. Dont know.
Not sure if it's worth buying Arma 2 at this point, with arma 3 coming this year i guess. But this DayZ mod is tempting me every day ! I like every aspect of it. Maybe i'll wait a steam sale or something like that.
For the ones playing the Mod, how is its longevity ? does it gets boring fast ?
Can someone help me out abit? i cant seem to get a dayz game started.
ive followed the toturial on the dayz site so it should work but it doesnt.
What happends is. when i select a server and i wanna join it it will start a loading screen, then near the end it wil trhow me back into the server list screen where it stops loading. and after abit trows me back into the server selection screen with the words waiting for character to create in the middle of my screen.
It sounds like it's loading but on some servers it can take upwards to 3-5 minutes to actually spawn you in-game. Also there are not only servers with at least 2 different versions of the mod there is also about 5 different versions of the game as well so finding the right version of both with what you have actually installed can be tricky. I have version 1.7 of the mod so how I narrow it down a little is I put "1.7" into the Host dialog box and DayZ into the Mission Dialog box on the server filter screen. This at least filters out all but the version of the mod I have so all I have to do is make sure the game version is correct.

For me personally? No, With the harsh world and very unpredictable game play I can see myself playing this for a long time to come. As for whether or not you will find it boring I can't really answer that. I can tell you that it's like no other game you've ever played. There are also a lot of different ways to approach survival in this game. If you need to have constant action you will want to hang out in the 2 major cities on the southern coast as that is probably where 60%-70% of the players hang out on most servers. Expect to die from this play style however... a lot. If you do head inland expect to have a lot of time devoted to just running through forested areas with brief stops in the many farms and small towns you'll encounter to gather supplies. Basically this game can cater to many different play styles it all depends on how you personally choose to approach it and how many risks you're willing to take to get what you need to survive.
Edit: Oh and on a side note the base game ArmA 2 isn't a bad game either. I highly recommend anyone that bought it for DayZ to check out the single player campaigns as well as the normal multiplayer. It does take some getting used to if you are used to games like BF or COD however. There are also many other great mods for this game as it is a true military sandbox through the use of the editor that is included with the game. Most of the other mods do center around the main military/war theme of the ArmA series however.
I've been debating this too. It looks like crap. But it looks like fun, while looking like crap.
The part that makes this hardest for me, is they raised the price back since DayZ. It went down to 10-20 before, now it's up to 30. I find it hard to justify when this is an alpha, Arma 3 is on its way, and I just don't have a baseline to evaluate my possible experiences as there's not really anything to go by.

Ok, I've seen enough videos to take the plunge. I just bought combined arms and will spend the rest of the night figuring out how to set up the mod.
Same problem, I don't care about arma II but Dayz looks interesting....
