Because this mod has been talked about on this website so much recently, I mentioned it to two of my friends who love survival games and they've now been watching videos of it all day, talking about it constantly, and bought Arma 2 to play it tonight.

So, from them to you guys, thanks.

They're looking for a server to play on if anyone has recommendations.

    You're welcome!

Keep an eye on this thread for possible server info. I'm hoping someone comes along with some great suggestions!

Yes, I agree and thank you.  I know some people have decided to get upset about it being on here, but in a world where games like Maple Story exist, I can only laugh at people who want to get upset about the discussion of a game that many feel is an MMO to one degree or another.

Most interesting is listening to stories of how much fun people are having in Day Z.  I have a few of my own, and it reminds me of the good old days of pre-NGE SWG when we would adventure in an open world, and create our own epics.  Running around in Day Z and role playing a wildernesss survivalist reminds me of being a Ranger in SWG and taking groups of people to try to survive the Night Sister Witches and Rancors on Dathomir.   We would fly to the planet, and just run around for hours with no quests; just because it was fun to adventure with friends.

I can only hope the spirit of Day Z rubs off on some developers, and we see someone grow a pair.  With about 150,000 people interested in Day Z now, it sounds like the making of a nice little hardcore survival MMO niche market. Not bad for a mod.

A sure sign that you are in an old, dying paradigm/mindset, is when you are scared of new ideas and new technology. Don't feel bad. The world is moving on without you, and you are welcome to yell "Get Off My Lawn!" all you want while it happens. You cannot, however, stop an idea whose time has come.

I've thought for quite some time, that a Zombie Apocalypse, or Nuclear Holocaust (Not Fallen Earth) type disaster MMO could be an extremely sucessful venture. I think Day Z is just proving it, with what amounts to a tiny budget, and tiny dev team (one?).

There is virtually no lore to make up, as it's Earth, we already live here, we know the history and lore, it's just an alternate vision.

We know the geography.... I mean if they really had to they could simply create a few regions at a time, and add more later, but real world locations aren't as hard to simulate, than something you have to make up from scratch.

We already know the race too... mankind, deeply flawed, but full of immense potential.

Have to figure a studio will eventually turn this type of scenario into an MMO, its the best game Genre for it, as it allows for interpersonal intrigue, cooperation and conflict.

Unless of course face-eating-Miami man is just the beginning, in which case it'll all be Ving Rhames, and Sarah Polley enough for everyone soon enough. image

It is fun, I just got it all downloaded updated and finally working after messing with it for a bit. You have to make sure everything is in the right folders and also update the actual game (arma2) with the newest beta. There is alot of helpful info on the dayz website if you have any trouble. Being its an Alpha I havent run into any bugs with it, but I only played for a few hours so far.

My first guy that spawned died in under 3 minutes haha. It spawned me right near some zombies and they chased me all over before I bled out and died.

The US servers are all on night time now and its hard as hell to see anything at night. I was able to get a hour and a half of day light time before the sun went down. Its scary creeping around the towns at night with the music and the sounds, pretty cool so far. Look forward to more hours in DayZ.

I'd never have heard about this game if it wasn't for these forums as well, so whoever started the first massive thread thanks!

I like my military shooters but had never tried ARMA yet, glad I have now, and this mod is worth the money on it's own!

It took some fiddling to get the thing to work but it was worth the hour or so I spent doing that, so far I died pretty fast the first few times, then I bumped in to two random guys and we spent the whole afternoon trying to avoid dying together.

Probably the best multiplayer game I have played for years, and it gives me that first MMO feeling that I have been missing for a very long time, I hope they go all the way and make this a complete game all on its own in the next few years.

I play from the US too and one thing I will do is I will join a EU server when it's late over here (I am pacific time).  It's day time over there.  The ping is not too bad, maybe around 200ish, but playable in a game like this.  I only do this if I am ill-prepared for the night, as in it's a new character and I don't have chemlights, food, ammo etc.  I actually love playing at night when I have chem lights :P.  Beyond that you can try turning your gamma/brighness up and turn HDR to the max.  I do not like how the game looks when you do this and it ruins for me, but you can at least see a bit better.
