From the same fella that brought us the great introduction video to DE's comes this video :

IT shows how DE's have real consequences.
Enjoy.

i love this guy's videos :P, they should be stickied to inform people asking how DEs are replicates of war PQs or rifts.
(PS: are you all set with your new alienware , personally i cant wait for the bwe2! )
Wait how's this any differetn from Rift at all? I like Dynamic Events alot, i really do, the first part of the video is about combat, and then it's a mob invasion and village is conquered. You then have to liberate it to get access to vendors and ques... er i mean waypoints. And it started in some other point of the chain. That's Rift 100%.
Sorry but, we've always known that DE have negative effects on teh world, but it's always mobs attacking location x, killing and destroying. That's not special in any way. But is still like DE.
Yep, is pretty much the same thing that rift did. But you need to undestand that the gw2 fanboys really believe that the game is 100% new and innovative.
That guy rocks - someone with actually a clue making some videos.
And anyone who really played both games knows this is way beyond what rift ever did.
Respect, walk

Let's not forget the haters, who think everything about it is pure crap.
There, balance restored.
on other hand we have the haters that say DE on GW2 are 100% equal to Rift. looool.
i see most of GW2 players saying that DE are an evolution from rift...
The ¨haters¨ who have brough the game like me, are actually the people helping anet to improved the game with honest and objetive feedback about the problems that gw2 still have. From what a saw, the fanboys really believe that the game is perfect and ready to be released.
It's totally different thats how. There have been 100s of posts trying to make you people understand that and until you play you probably will ask 100s of times more. No need in explaining it over and over. Do a search on these forums and it will be a huge loop right back to your question.
Have a good day sir.
Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.
It seems my comment hit a tender spot, despite the fact that I was as generic about my assessment as you. Human psychology is amazing.
And, sorry, saying "DEs are just Rifts thingamajingy" is hardly 'objective feedback', since many would dispute that fact (myself included). I think DEs are much more involved than "A random Rift appeared".
There is a difference between nagging and criticising. I think everyone welcomes a well-rounded critical approach of something. Yes, even fanboys.
The big difference that stuck me when playing GW2 vs Rift DE's was that GW2 DE's are intended to be a major means you use to level where in Rift they feel like they get in a way of doing quest hubs sometimes.
...Except that not all dynamic events are invasions. There's a variety of dynamic events. You can have everything from centaur invasions to having to kill the broodmother so vendors in the area can sell fish to escorting some NPC to another outpost among others.
People seem to see one of the more epic dynamic events and instantly scream Rift or Warhammer without bothering to look at other dynamic events.
There's a big difference between the way DE's work compared to Rifts...but you don't even have to dig into details to discover that the game's implementations are totally different (and the difference is VITAL to why GW2 will work and Rift pretty much didn't).
Rift's (the game) central path of advancement...the way you gained levels and got the lion's share of your loot, plus the way you were lead around by the nose to fill in your map...was all done with a solo task grind from one task hub to the next.
Rifts (the PQs) in the game were "side" content...and they set them up so that when they took over a task hub...you were stuck and unable to continue on the central advancement path of the game until...A) the rift mobs "outpost" disappeared on its own, or you beat the mobs and cleared the task hub. They had to set things up on a timer so they would disappear before too long...because they knew it was really annoying to be blocked from the "real" advancement path.
This sets up the content in Rift as being an annoyance, something that temporarily gets in your way and really has no lasting effect other than to inconvenience you. Many times the mobs would be too strong to solo, so you'd be stuck waiting on your quest hub until they were cleared.
In GW2, the DEs ARE the central path of open-world advancement. There are no task hubs to be blocked. There is no task grind to derail. The fact that DEs sometimes take over towns and outposts doesn't stop you from playing and advancing...it creates more opportunities to play and advance. Also, when a DE takes over a town or outpost, it STAYS taken over until someone takes it back.
So again, that is in addition to all the differences between rifts and DEs in terms of mechanics, scaling, etc. Not only are the systems very different (DEs were loosely based on PQs...but have taken the concept 10 steps further), the implementations are dramatically different, too. Saying "DEs are just the same as rifts in Rift" shows a pretty substantial ignorance.
Not this discussion again :P
We've already established that Guild Wars 2 Dynamic Events are both "dynamic", with the whole meaning of the word, and are ages ahead of Rifts or PQs or whatever.... anyone who read the other topic about this should already understand that, unless he is a troll or hater. Don't recycle the same conversation again and again it's getting tiring explaining to every troll individually the exact same thing.
Great vid btw... although something with a meta event and not an invasion would've been a lot better but it is still good

If this post is sarcasm- The no affense with the rest of my post.
If it's not- WTF are you talking about. You people? I like GW2, never said i didn't. I'm talking about this particular DE in the video. i know Events aren't the same has Rifts, never said that. What i asked, with a example filled post, is how is this DE different from them? Guess the best response is attacking me, but hey, i guess i'm one of "those people".
I've also already watched the other vido he made. I liked it. I personally feel there's things in DE that are better suted for static quests, like the story they try to show, but that's my opinion. Again, i still like DE for what they are. But this video is basicaly:
"Combat gets harder at higher levels, after the starting zone"- Herp derp?
"DE many times are mob invasions, like the Shatterer, and will attack villages and other location, conquer them, etc, etc"- Yeah, we've know that over a year now.
EDIT: Oh, btw, great mature friendly community this game's got right here.
The heart quests are just PQ not DEs. The DEs are totally different animal. Never got to find one in the BWE event but as far as I know only one game ever had DEs AC otherwise they are all PQs.
Yep, is pretty much the same thing that rift did. But you need to undestand that the gw2 fanboys really believe that the game is 100% new and innovative.

I didn't mean it to be sarcasm or an insult. I merely pointed out that this has been played over and over again. I"m not sure where you thought I was being unfriendly. Sorry if you were offended.
Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.
Well I'm fairly certain that most people (me included) didn't think you were referring only to that particular DE but DEs in general. "DEs are like PQs/Rifts" is such a common misconception about the game that is getting annoying.
You must understand, it's getting tiresome to explain the same thing all the time. It gets old after the 100th time. And this community is far better than others. At least members of this community (GW2 community) don't go to other game's forums to bash or troll, I would say it's the opposite that's happening here.
I'm not saying you are a troll or hater or whatever, we just had so many of them over the past days that simple posts tick people off - especially if they are misunderstood. Peace

I found I never got tired of doing the same DEs over and over. In the first region with the ice lord boss event I did it at least 5-6 times the first day of BWE1. I will probably do it another 5 times during BWE2. Becuase you never outlvl any content and all content is always challenging you can't ever get bored with it, at least I haven't yet.
a really cool DE link

RIft DEs were not really DEs they were static event that happened every X amount of timeand despawned after a X time. Also rift events never upscailed when more players showed up to the area.
GW2 event increase difficulty dynamicly acording to the number of players in the area. They also remain active untill players defeat them. I'd say GW2 actually has DEs where Rift just has static events.
I'd like to see what happens in a DE area when 3/4 of the players are doing nothing to help. I want to see if the DE will upscale then stomp the 1/4 of the players that are actually trying to defeat it.

What if you made a mmorpg called Pure Crap. Would their complaints act as positive hype?

Is there a difference between going out in the world and killing mobs or having a quest to go out into the world with a purpose and killing mobs?
Obviously there is.
The problem is questing is still limited in their story telling purposes.
GW2 way of presenting questing allows to tell the story to players in a different way while providing the illusion of a living world with purpose and "real people" (NPCs) with their agendas, wishes and stories.
What is the purpose of Rift rifts' mobs?
Why are they attacking? What is their next step?
They don't have a purpose. They don't have a following to the invasion.
In GW2 some don't have follows up either, but many do.
We could say a black and white movie without sound is just the same as a 3D-movie and it is a fact that a good mute black and white sound might beat a crappy 3D movie, but the difference in presentation does make a difference.
And in games having no quests, having quests that only happen if you trigger them, having random quests, having quests that are just happening and you can visualize, have different degrees of success creating an enjoyable experience.

Yes!
...
Erm. No!
Perhaps!
OK, you got me stumped there.
yea, because RIFT didnt just take PQs from WAR and let em move. rift fanbois really believe that the game had anything innovative *G*
you see what i did there? mr rift fanboi? :>
"I'll never grow up, never grow up, never grow up! Not me!"
How many times are you going to save jimmy from bears on an escort quest .... I mean, DE,,,, before his story is about as meaningless as the rift monsters invading?
I agree with your though, GW2 is providing a very solid illsuion that people are buying about the game being different and fresh.... when it is the exact same thing every other MMO has done before it with a really nice paint job.
Presentation is great but a month after launch and you notice you've been killing x, collect y, and protecting slow moving moron npc repeatedly..... will the fresh paint still look fresh?
SWTOR.
