Surround sound speakers worth it for this game?

ShiotcrockShiotcrock Member Posts: 87

Wondering if I should buy that logitech 5.1 Z906 surround speaker setup. I would just use regular speakers and a receiver but not sure if the results.

Are the ambient sounds good in GW2? Or do the gunshots and stuff get pretty annoying after a while?

I used to have a 4.1 or 5.1 setup for Dark Age of Camelot and it was the bomb for that game especially doing buffs with the druid.

That my friend is what we refer to as an under-bridge dweller, troll for short. The game is well worth your money. As far as a surround sound system...two words.

    Hell Yes.

P.S: The scientific name is Trollus Erectus.

No he's just saying that to say something.  Unless he tells you why, dont bother reading.  He didnt.

Anyways those who buy their fancy surround sound systems never seem to regret it.  Only their neighbors do.  So if you have the means Id say go for it.

As for GW2, yes buy the thing.  If you have doubts just go on Youtube and look at videos, reviews, and all that since Beta has been transparent and Anet has allowed people to post all kinds of videos while they play.  The Guild Wars 2 website is worth a look too.  You can google that.

Thanks for the reply I seen some nice ambient stuff with Guild Wars 2 videos on you tube. I can't use a headsets  cause I get ringing in the ear or Tinitus pretty fast. I tried a Turtle Beach Headset and my ears were rining for two months after playing Duke Nukem Forever.

The rifle sounds are beautiful.  Seriously.  They are also doing some 3D magic with distant explosions so that they sound muffled and directional the way they should.  Like if an Ele is blowing stuff up off to your left, a half mile away on the other side of the valley, the sounds sort of give you that information.  Or if someone is shelling a keep with trebuchets off in the distance, etc.  Individual weapon impacts are all unique.  The #1 skill on the sword is a 3-attack chain.  The first two are slashes and the third is a big stab.  That third attack sounds completely different - much heavier than the other two, and it does more damage.

I have this old baby http://www.guru3d.com/article/creative-sound-blaster-audigy2-platinum-ex/ along with 6.1 creative speakers. The output is majestic. Just my two cents.

I was walking through the cities in GW2 beta with my headset on and the ability to hear what direction things are coming from was nice to have. If you don't want surround sound speakers you could settle with a good set of headphones for about the same thing.

Here is an example of a city. You can hear examples of NPCs talking throughout the whole thing. Most videos I've seen of cities usually have the music turned up to loud or the sound turned down and a guy talking over everything. That guy though has his sound at a higher level so you can kind of hear the stuff as he is talking. You can also hear the direction of where the sound is coming from in that video. Still wish I had found a better video with less talking.

WAIT. So you haven't even played the game yet? How much do you know about GW2? Look OP, not trying to be rude here or anything, but try to get into teh next BWE and see for yourself. Then you can probably answer your own question.

Ok let me ask you this..

Are you going to be playing GW2 with a guild and be in a voice app like vent/mumble/TS ?

If you are then your probally never going to use your 5.1 surround sound kit as you will be using your headphones.

Might be better to invest in some nice sourround sound head set :)

I would say Yes.  I love the sound in this game.  I have surround sound and a nice little sub wolfer to help with bass, and just discovering those waypoints for quick travel, my whole room would reverberate, it's AWESOME!

    I prefer surround headphones.

I have a Asus Xonar Essence paired with Sennheiser PC360 headphones. They sound fantastic. I plan on using vent in-game so it should work out good. Gotta hook-up with Bill and the rest of the mmorpg clan next beta.

I agree with most everyone here. I personally have surround sound headphones (G35) and this game sounds great through them.

    Cheers!

I have headphones. Sound Blaster Tactic 3D: Sigma. And Guild Wars 2 sounds incredible on them.
