I signed up for Beta, thats it. I know a few websites hand out keys occasionally. The only one I can think of is PC gamer but I havent tried to get one. No I did not pre purchase, so no I have not played Beta.
You know, I actually like to find bugs in beta and test things out, and its not always just the great time I would be having playing the released game. Im a very patient person and I rather just wait. If they want me they can send me a key which doesnt look like thats going to happen, and thats not my lose. That's theirs. Because Im a fair tester I think.
I guess I kind of have an aversion to paying for something where Im doing a job for them. Ircks me. Of course these days beta testing seems to be more of a preview kind of thing. Which is less productive and kind of sad to me. Guess Im just old fashioned that way.
Anyways I cant possibly hate on anyone who did pre purchase. More power to you guys and gals. Its just not for me. When I buy a game I want to play it. Its mine. MY PRECIOUS! And I'll play it any time I want. But I wont pay to beta. Thats not a privalege to me. Thats work. Fun work maybe, but work. I dont expect to be paid for it, but I dont expect to pay for it either. But thats just me.
For the rest of you, have fun. Just please submit reports so the devs might find something they missed and fix it up before release. Please please please do this. Dont just play. TEST. Please test. Im begging you.
You're not old fashioned, you are just a wise consumer
But the problem with beta weekends is that they aren't really intended and suited for bug hunting. They are fan pacifiers, and yield overal impressions and press opportunities. So mainly marketing tools.
Chances are every bug you find will have been thoroughly reported by extensive, in house closed beta testing. It's the closed bag approach instead of the open bag one which Arch Age is employing.
BWE's do yield surprising amount of bugs reported. I was lucky to have a chance to talk with one of the developers during the first BWE for a fair amount of time (on the last available day). He told me (among other things) that they received a hefty pile of bugs they missed with their inner testing team and that BWE was a fairly successful in terms of bug hunting.
Ok, that's pretty cool. I might be off in my assessment of the value of beta weekends for bug hunting then.
But it makes me hope for more extensive testing on undisclosed content even more.
Bought the game. Followed it for YEARS. Am I supposed to feel guiltly like so many seem to thing we should for buying it?
F$ck no. I work for a living. $60 is NOTHING to me. You broke ass losers.
Yet still you somehow have to urge to be very defensive about your decision and pretty much out of the blue?
It's was a joke. I'll be more sensitive for the likes next time if you desire.
Here's a tip: watch more British humor. American's can be so terribly PC. It makes the world oh so boring.
Oh it was a joke. Good that you mentioned it because I didn't really notice that (despite my fondness of humour with a "u") V_V
Anyway, nevermind my reply in that case

Seeing that this BWE is shaping up to be a real massive one? Maybe this will be last one then
I hope it won't be the last. There should be somekind of high level content beta + some hands on time with the other races to demonstrate people that the game has the same level of polish everywhere and is indeed "done". Even if it's a limited press beta or something.
Otherwise they would be keeping a lot inside the bag and whether that's only rose petals and candy and no cats or bear traps would be anyone's guess.
The last time we've heared "It's done when it's done" was from Bioware but that didn't stop them from launching with a hugely underdeveloped Ilum and non existant world pvp mechanics throughout the game.
Well I don't want the BWE to spoil the game tooo much I think the higher levels have all been tested in the alpha and closed beta.
So that the "open" betas are more about testing people's visions about some core designs then about the overall polish in the entire game. Which ofc doesnt mean they arent extremely well polished
Abnout the "when it's done" philosophy: I do think the game is already finished and that they are just giving the last hand at some zones and mechanics.
PS: don't worry Pony the Dik-Dik avatar and signature ARE coming XD, I have exams right now though...

It is unusual of me to buy new MMORPGs, especially with the time investment of this genre. Impulsive buying is not a good thing with these kinds of games. Luckily GW2 had some loose NDAs and people like myself had gotten the resources to view what we are getting into before pre-purchases were available. I probably wouldn't have made the purchase so soon if it weren't for that.

I agree with you about spoiling a game during beta. I have beta tested countless mmo's since Asheron's Call. I have now made sure to stunt my time in beta to ensure I enjoy the game after release. I of course try to contribute as best I can in the beta process but I simply cannot commit mylself like I used to. Mmo's launch with such shallow content these days that I have lost all belief and thus wish not to ruin idealistic dreams that may still exist.

Hehe, the "humour with a "u"" bit wasn't to criticize your spelling. "Humor" is also correct. You were refering to british humor and they write humor with a "u". i.e. It was just another way for me to write "British humor", if you catch my drift.
Seems after misunderstanding you you misunderstood me so it all evened out eventually
Did my usual daily inbox check up for new mail and there it was. I was in the last beta from a key I found on a site online but I didn't do anything special (that I recall anyway) to get into this one so I was a bit surprised.

So it is politically incorrect to try to insult other people through comments about their economy without having enough information to do an accurate statement about their economical situation?

Seems to be effective to sell betas :P

Followed the game for years, Pre-Purchased. No Regrets.
Sorry to interupt thread, but that if freaking funny.
Sounds like someone could of used the pre order bonus "soap on a rope".
Asking Devs to make AAA sandbox titles is like trying to get fine dining on a McDonalds dollar menu budget.

Can you guys do that again but this time force them to release the game once for all?
