My review

So I decided to buy and play this game and the MoD.  For an FPS the controls are quite different from what I'm used to in CoD or BF, and the inventory system could use some work.  The controls can feel clunky and need some getting used to.  With this game, as far as performance and graphics goes, well, 25 bucks is about right.  But, I didn't get this game because I expected it to be a AAA title.  I got this game to for a perma death zombie appocolypes multi player experience.  I would suggest for anyone who does get ARMA 2 OA for the Day Z mod to at least go through the boot camp of the main game, and maybe a few missions in the main story (which actually is quite fun and refreshing) first, just so you know at least the basic commands.

So, I think because this isn't about graphics or great controls or inovative game play, I think my review would better be done by sharing my first time experience: 

 

I was able to connect to the game and ended up on a shoreline.  I walked up a small hill and came accross a town where I saw several people stumbling and crawling around.  I checked my ammo and had a few clips, but not enough to waste. 

 

I began to run up a mountain, then down, and came accross a dirt road.  I followed the road to a gas station and noticed that I had to eat and drink water.  After eating and drinking, I realized that I needed to refill my canteen.  I also only had one can of beans left.  I knew I wouldn't last long without taking a chance.  I saw three zombies wandering around the gas station, which also had a near by shack and barn type structure. I made a wide circle around the buildings and was only able to see three zombies wandering around the area, so I went prone and crawled my way to the open door of the gas station. 

 

Inside I found a knife, a first aid kit and ammo for guns I didn't have.  No food was there, but an empty bottle was...I hoped I could fill it with water later.  I then heard a monsterous groaning and moaning and realized I had been bitten.  I shuffeled around but couldn't see where my attacker was, until I looked up at a broken window and could see the head of a zombie sticking through.  I went into a kneeling position and capped him in the head.  I heard a scream and turned toward the door in time to catch a claw to the face.  I capped off two rounds to down that bloody undead thing.  I was bleeding and breathing hard when I felt another hit at the sime time as I heard a roar from a third attacker.  I turned to a door that had been closed and that I hadn't even realized could be opened.  There stood a third zombie!  I was shaking and blurried eyed as I, in a panick, unloaded the remaining rounds in my clip on himk. 

 

 I quickly wrapped up my wounds to stop the bleeding then stepped out the newly opened back door.  I fell to the ground.  When I tried to get up again and take a step, I fell back down.  Before I could bust out a shot of morphien, I was attacked by yet another zombie!  It came out of nowhere!  I had to reload my gun before I coudl down him.  I then took morephein and a pain killer and went running off into the woods.  

 

About fifteen minutes later, I came accross a small pond with a dam.  I was able to refill my water and eat the rest of my food.  I then found myself walking along a paved road which led me to the next town.  Out of food and without an axe to make firewood, I decided to try my luck again.  This time I had seven zombies to deal with...I took down the first, then a second and third came running at me, zig-zagging so I couldn't shoot them in the head till they were right on me!  By the time they were down, I had a crawler jumping my way.  By the time I was able to get into the town and find the axe I needed I was dangerously low on ammo, first aid kits, and only had one morphine left...and no pain killers.  

 

I'm looking for a big city where I know there are other humans...But have heard there's also a sniper.  Someone's killing us off while we try to survive the zombies...The son of a bitch.  One day I might find him and kill him.  I decide to stay away from any more towns, just in case.  I find a small dirt road and follow along it, stopping by some random structure to see if I can get in, but I can't.  As I walk away a zombie in military garb comes at me.  Before I can locate the attacker, I'm bleeding agian.  I'm able to take him down when a second Zombie shows up.  I survive the encounter, barely.  I use my last bandage...But I'm shaking and everything's blurry and I only have two rounds left...And I still have no food.  

 

This game gave me the feeling I got when I was 12 and watched Night of the Living Dead for the very first time (the black and white one).  I was actually scared and frightened and knew I was going to die, and there was nothing I could do about it!! I contempated just killing myself rather than  be eaten alive...Then night came...Setting off the flare to see was a very very bad idea....The outcome gives me chills just thinking about it.
