My initial thoughts after a few days of playing...
Female characters are beautiful. I really enjoy looking at my elf girl! Lots of great hair styles. Nice animations! Maybe all the artists that make beautiful female characters have been working on Tera and that is why we have so many ugly females in other games. I like the little sounds she makes, lol. Especially after she harvests something. I want to hug her but...she is me...so it's wierd. I would totally date me if I could though. I like how when she finishes climbing she kinda crawls onto her side before standing up, it's great. The swing of her hair, the sway of her hips, the little poses when she is standing still for awhile.
Initially I was going to play a male character though, but I didn't care for how the male avatars looked. They are ok, but none of them really grabbed me like the female avatars. I like to make a character that resembles me and I couldn't. But it's okay, my elf girl makes me happy.
I also made a fat cat which I named after my house cat. He looks cool. I always play human or elf or dwarf. I like human looking characters, but I thought my cat character looked pretty cool. I could picture having him as an alt. I can already imagine my wife's reaction when she sees him. I wish she had time to play mmo with me
I was disappointed with the little girl race. She looks really cute, but too much swaying around, atleast in character creation. But I would have liked if I could have made a little boy character, something that more closely resembles my inner child, lol. I think that would have been cool....but no hips swaying every which way...lol.
The combat is engauging. I like it, but its something new I need to practice. I love how I can chain attacks together though. That's so awesome! When I brought up that window and realized I could customize my chain attacks I was like...whoa, why didn't anyone else try this.
The world is beautiful. I'm going to explore it and take lots of screenshots. Already have taken quite a few Thank you artists for such a beautiful world that makes me want to explore further. The trees sway, there is ambient life, the color pallet is very whimsical and fantasy...very inspiring. I just stop and look sometimes. All mmos I have played have had their places of beauty, but I think this game will be the most beautiful so far.
I like the inventory sort feature. YES YES YES!!! OMG
Lots of room in the bank. I hate stingy games, thank you..the horder in me gives the devs two thumbs up.
I like that i can customize the weapons with crystals and alter the color of some items with dye..or can all armor be colored? I've used crystals but not dye yet, but I'm looking forward to it.
I like how in other games, we get all kinds of excuses why we can't have better looking avatars, or why we can't have long hair. OMG, long hair will cause clipping and all kinds of horrid issues. Tera does long hair quite well, and with beautiful style.
Yes, it's a themepark, but I will enjoy my time playing it. Learning the ropes, exploring the world, watching my elf girl, will keep me entertained for awhile. I'm happy I bought the game.

I stumbled onto this game myself, my buddy from work gave me a buddy pass and decided to give it a try.
At 1st I couldn't get into it, but after giving the game a real go I find myself at level 31 now with a bought purchase.
It is a interesting game and it is holding my attention for now, as many have stated, it does get repetitive, but if you pace yourself and just explore the game like mmo's should be played, you may enjoy yourself.
The graphics are definitely there, the combat is there, but my only beef is that it does get repetitive, so I slowed down my leveling process and decided to start crafting for a change. I hope they work some more on the PvP aspect of the game, cause for me, that would be a nice change up.
If you're happy now, you'll only be happier later. It is neat to see someone notice some of the overlooked bright spots in the game.
I feel ike people feel on tera is like people feel on runescape. Either you like it or hate it and there is almost no middle ground XD although considering how long ruescape lasted i say there is enough that liked it XD
the OP didn't mention it so perhaps doesn't know but Tera does something even better to deal with hair clipping. Long hair styles have a "done up" version for when armor models are large around the neck. I guess I don't know if every race does this, or gender for that matter but I know it works on the Elin and Elf females. It can be annoying if you really wanted to see your char with long hair but you get used to it and it does look better than having long hair pass magically though clothing.
Alternate hair styles for different armor. That is attention to detail.
All die, so die well.
i dunno because I love parts of the game but others I really hate... unfortunatly the things i dislike outweigh the rest.. too bad too cause I agree with most points the OP made just after 30 levels it got so stale... love the female avatars though and the armor looks great!
I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. If I buy a candy bar at a store, oftentimes, I will drop it... so that it achieves its maximum flavor potential. --Mitch Hedberg
One of the things I really like about it (and other I'm sure might hate about it) is the standard "old school feel" of finding a group and playing for a long time.
Now, I am usually a soloer but when I get into a good group it can be really good.
I played Tera solidly during the weekend. Not surehow I feel about that but there it is. I kept going from solo to group to solo to almost logging out and then finding a group again.
One of the nice things about Tera is that you can be a few levels lower than an encounter and stand a chance of beating it. At lvl 57 myself and two others, one a tank the other a Berzerk, did a lvl 60 boss/bam thing.
We got it down to 11%, kept dying and coming back during the encounter but eventually it beat us. We then met up an hour later, rushed two people through quests to get them to a point where they could join us (separately I might add) had an epic fight with this thing and then stayed to fight some dragon/Bam things. Five of them. The whole thing reminded me of old groups where you would finish and encounter, heal up, tell a few jokes and when ready do it all over again.
Game has its issues and I'm thoroughly convinced it's not for everyone but I like it enough to do the 3 month at a time sub model.

I can't agree with this enough, honestly, I was ready to log off bored to tears in Habere yesterday, that place is awfully tough but then a random mystic asked to party then we saw two others, then we saw a lancer, and all the sudden we had a five man party, were all on the same questline and we ripped through Habere, then made it to the next zone, ripped through half of that and then did the labyrinth of terror dungeon(the aesthetics in the boss rooms and the bosses themselves in this dungeon are simply fantastic).
We were grouped up for three hours and I was enjoying myself the whole time. Today I finished up solo'ing and got into the three tower spires questing area and did the instanced storyline quest, wow, that was pretty awesome, cutscenes I actually enjoyed watching and a fun fight at the end.
