so people may consider this a useless thread but hey among the : "i hatez this mmo *which is still in beta btw* i played for 60 hours and now i haz a good reviews about it" and the " i got bored cause i had a bad day and its all guild wars 2 fault for not showing me the purpose of life",i think this thread might be welcomed so i contacted NCSoft support twice : one about region and othr about the client now i had past experiences with the : COPY+PASTE Blizzard,Chernobyl Trion,and of course "we don't give a rats ass about you" EA and i expected NCSoft to be kinda like Blizzard.............boy was i wrong, these guys talk like human beings *i know you were expecting cats i know you did* but really they were casual talking,understanding about the qustions just one of the best supports iv experienced so far and since many of you are itching to know what i asked,il give you the butter of the information it may help you out:
you guys might know this before hand but hey imore helpful info can't hurt.
1- Region : so the game is kinda Region Freelocked now whats that mean ?,it means lets say your in the US and want to play with EU you have to have a US game key,and same for us,basicly we can't cheap our selves for the ~20 euro :P
2-Game client : sadly the beta client won't be updated to a full client whens the game is released,now that means you have to download a new game client which according to the email is going to be released a few days before the Head start Access,so another ~20gigs T_T
now some of you might be saying : wtf it's normal,but the way they responded was great no copy-paste crap like when i contact Blizzard about D3 and they send me a WoW saved response,so yeah

OK, that sucks, especially since I have an EU friend in mind with whom I'd want to play...
Wtf is up with this region locking rubbish in this day and age???

You can play with your friend without any problems..... You can play on EU when you have a US copy. You can play on US servers when you have an EU copy. What you can't do is buy a EU key and play FROM the US, not ON the US servers.
Block the trolls, don't answer them, so we can remove the garbage from these forums

This. It's also mentioned in the FAQs on the official site, the wiki etc. and has been stated by Anet in other media on several occasions that you choose a home world (server) and if you change home server to one of a different region it will take some time before you can log in again because your data is copied to the datacenter of the other region.
Basically the way it works is that they have two datacenters, they take care of the logins, one in europe (not sure on which country) and one in US. About any country in Europe and most of Asia (IIRC, might be wrong) is assigned to the european datacenter, while everyone else is on the US one, and it's IP enforced. Basically if you see euros when you're purchasing online from them (the page puts you in the correct location), you're on the EU datacenter, while if you see dollars, you're on the US one. If you buy a US version, you need to login from the US datacenter, same with the EU version.
Once you log in, though, you have the full server list available to create your character, or guest in (kinda like a free PVE only server transfer), including EU and US servers, so while you do have to buy a correct copy for your region to log in, once you did, you can play anywhere you want, including with your friend.
BTW, when they announced the region locks they did say that they're aware of people that travel a lot or that have to move to other countries, and are working on something to accomodate them, nothing has been announced about it yet, but based on some phrasing on recent interviews (don't remember the exact source) makes me think it'll be the posibility to change the region of your account, maybe with a fee or something like that, no idea.
What can men do against such reckless hate?
The US datacenter is near Dallas, Texas. The EU one is in Frankfurt, Germany.
Lets take bets on how many times he says haz....

seems GW 2 community is well informed, so basicly my thread was useless......oh well......
those infos are just plain wrong.
the region lock ONLY comes into play for YOUR Game. you cannot install a EU game in the states and visa vis.
you CAN play with your friends on the US servers tho.
