Blizzard Korea has announced downtime for Diablo III's servers in Asia due to the existence of an item duplication exploit.
With the launch of the game's Real Money Auction House imminent, Blizzard is beefing up account security, requiring players to attach a Battle.net Authenticator (or Mobile Authenticator) to their account in order to add a balance to their Battle.net account.
There is no ETA currently for when service to servers in Asia will return. We'll keep you posted!

I hope they start banning every individual that participated in this.. Along with botters, spammers, and anyone that uses outside RMAH. I could care less if it leaves only 5 people left in the game.
Will they though? Probably not.
Ouch lol.
Maybe they can fix it by turning the computer date backwards.

This is the exact type of behavior that online only was meant to prevent.
Blizzard is dropping the ball with D3, big time.
AHUUUUUUUUUUUURRRRRRR DRM PREVENTS HACKS. AHUUUUUUUUUUUUUR.
Wow, the hackers and exploiters are really going after this game arnt they.
Feel sorry for Blizzard tbh
It's not DRM.
Blizzard and press say otherwise

Shabby at best, all this crap for a single player game, it's just not worth it.
Well at least they can all play offline solo while this "no ETA" thing gets fixed.
Oh wait...
Time to officially push back the Real cash AH for the good of the game and just never release it.

I FOOKING KNEWWWWWW ITTTTT WHEN THE US SERVER LAUNCHED YOU WOULD ALWAYS SEE 60 OF THE SAME EXACT LEGENDARY AND NOTHING ELSE MAYBE 1-10 RANDOM LEGENDARYS I ALWAYS THOUGHT IT WAS FISHY I WOULDNT BE SURPRISED IF THE US SERVER HAD(MAYBE EVEN STILL HAS) THE SAME ISSUE AND THEY NINJA'D IT
Do you really think all of those items on the AH are from players?
Blizzard needs to give the illusion that Diablo 3 is a packed game. So obviously they generated items and seeded the AH themselves. If item duping was happening in NA the servers would have come down.

Nah, this is exactly what it would look like if they had every WoW server and both factions using 1 auction house. Well, it is what it would have looked like a couple of years ago, probably not today.
They call it DRM because to some extent it does serve a DRM function but the main reason is to get people into the RMAH, to be online and to spend money online. Single player games with no online is a closed revenue stream, they want everyone playing to be able to potentially give Blizz more money. So its less DRM than it is marketing.
Eve Online does the same thing in High sec space. they seed items, set prices to keep stuff balanced.
There's nothing wrong with doing this because if they didnt there would hardly be any gear that costs under a million gold in D3. Just take a look at the crafting section of the AH. THe Gems, Crafting materials are always the same price.
Thats Blizzard seeding items. once the game gets older they will do it less and less.

I'm no fan of the RMAH but Starcraft2 is described as having online DRM too
theres no RMAH in SC2

If the RMAH didn't exist, and they still had the online-only requirement, what would it be then? Plain old DRM.
I want a mmorpg where people have gone through misery, have gone through school stuff and actually have had sex even. -sagil
An exploite was found and blizzard are fixing it, don't know way so many of you are getting excited about this.
I agree but doubt that would happen. I would be shocked if it did.
Grim Dawn, the next great action rpg!

You all assume far too much. First, this is only in Asia as we know and, second, Asia doesn't and will not have a RMAH anyway.
Dupes still exist in EU and US server. You could buy the most expensive item in AH and you would get with a trick, the money and the item. So basicly there are people running around with
trillions of Money and high end items.
If the dupe still exists in-game, why the hell aren't our servers down?
Also Eurogamer are fucking idiots. Their is no Real Money Auction House in Korea and never will be, their government won't allow it. If I know this, surely a big review site should.

Always hating on instances in MMOs! Open worlds, open PvP, territory control and housing please. More persistence, more fun.
when i read that article, I assumed Eurogamer was talking about world wide RMAH -- not something localized to Korea

According to Blizzard, they have NEVER BEEN HACKED or BREACH OF SECURITY. Or so my BS email went. Obviously, there are holes. And if the asian market found this, why is the western market still up? This is not 1990, internet and communication is rockin.
The reason NA server didn't come down, is because it is already fixed. The Asia server being down is more likely attempting to remove all those items. Also, this wasn't a direct dupe and basically allowed unlimited crafting of items. I assume this didn't work with found items maybe due to each item being individually recognizable somehow, but crafting new items, well they are new and unique. This was introduced with the fixes for turning in quests multiple times to level characters quickly. How they couldn't see this coming though with the way it worked, is insanely short sighted and I have to wonder about the intelligence of the people working there.
