My guess is they will announce a release date this month in June for the Q3 like it mentioned and that month will be...

    September!!!

I'm definitely thinking Late August-Early October range. September most likely. I LOVED what I played, but it just isn't finished.

The features, systems and professions are stable and close to being release worthy. The game is so fun and so expansive that they can afford for there to be content bugs at launch and it won't hamper the game's success. There is just so much to do that the occassional broken, bugged or stuck DE, Skill Point Challenge or mob won't be anything but a minor inconvenience.

There were obvious issues of that kind in the level 15-25 and 25-35 zones, but I didn't care. If the 36 hours I play tested in BWE2 had been the first 36 hours of head start play, I'd have been very ahppy with the experience and it would have been superior to the early experiences I've had with any MMO since WoW, bugs and all.

You know...I purposely stayed away from this game.  Didn't bother to really read anything about it, didn't pariticpate in forums about it but after my disappointment with a different game that released recently, I broke down and bought it.  I played all weekend this past event.  This is why I stayed away from the game, I am too impatient....

WHEN IS IT GOING TO RELEASE?!?!?!? GAHHH I WANT TO PLAY

(I had a very good time during the bwe2!)

The game felt pretty polished to me, however I really don't know enough though about the game to stand by that statement.  I ran into a few bugs here and there.  I do want to play more, but it's worth the wait IMO.

It's definitely ready and should release July 27th (a Friday).  I know, I'm overreaching and there's no way they're going to announce the release date within only a month and a half.  But it would be nice to have the game at that time frame.  Of what bugs were found and did come into contact with, they were far and few between, the only major one being a Skill Point in the corner of the Blue world map not working at all.

The game has mroe content in it then most other games even do within their 6 months of release.  Shit, the sandbox-themepark-hybrid style nature of the game is what's really appealing.  It's so open that a player has choices everywhere and can do whatever they want of crafting, PvP, WvWvW, PvE, exploration, and so on.  Only a few select features feel that they are lacking (fluff, mind you): Fishing and housing.

Better hope they actually fix things before release. Meele still broken and performance was horrific last bwe.

melee in some cases outperforms ranged, and I have received a huge fps boosts from bwe1 to bwe2.. bwe1 somewhere around 25fps while bwe 2 35-40fps

You may be in a minority on that one.

Most people have minimal - no permance issues (myself included). I had some lag the first day of the first BWE, but every update the game just runs smoother & smoother.

As for melee being broken.. you're going to have to elaborate on that a bit. I plays a melee warrior through most of this last BWE (up until lvl 30) and had no issues. I soloed elites / veterans and held my own against bosses just fine. The trick is to know what weapons to use for which types of fights, and to know when to unload your damage, when to get the hell out of dodge, and when to go back in and get the guys' attention. It's not broken, it just requires a lot more skill than most games.

Melee is fine and the game won't ever run on a Tandy.

Eh my performance was outstanding.  At one point during a huge WvWvW battle there must have been at least 100-150 players on my screen and had no FPS loss or lag.  After playing Warhammer and getting a slideshow with 50 players on screen I was happy.  I ran the game on medium/mostly high settings.  Was flawless for me, was suprised actually.

Some hardware/driver configurations are still probably not performing where they should be.  I do hope they fix it for those people :D

Melee actually outperforms ranged, period (in terms of raw damage). It's been proven, Anet has also reiterated this officially, and I have also personally seen this to be the case. One of my Warrior's abilities did enough damage by itself to 1 shot most people my same lvl, unless they had a lot of stats in defense / vitality. While my Ele & Ranger could hit strong in ranged as well, they usually had to sacrifice a lot to get anywhere near that much damage output. The basic tradeoff (a bit simplistic) is that ranged have good sustainable damage, but lack the burst power that melee classes have (even with a 1H and a shield). However, melee classes can't attack all the time, unless their fighting a target that lets them. This is why in PvP it's best not to ignore melee characters, because they will usually tear you apart if you aren't careful.

I had no performance issues myself, but one of my roomies did (yup, everyone in my household plays or will play GW2).  As for melee issues, the times I've played melee I didn't notice anything myself.

the only place i still had perfomance issues was LA. in BWE1, i must have had like 15fps, and in BWE2 maybe 25, which still blows given my system spec. all the other areas have been greatly improved though.

September at the earliest, gem store wasn't working for a lot of people right through the last weekend, I'd bet they'd like a beta weekend where the store was working for everybody.

June release would mean the game was gold already, july release if they only had a few weeks work to do and they definately have more than that.

They plan on selling 3.12 milion copies of the game in US and EU in 2012...

Basically that might be a tad to low, if they release Q3.

I think early September release and a June release announcement will be my best bet. Early Spetember is just great with everyone going back to school and so. You spend 50 bucks and have a game to take you around for the whole year.

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

I disagree the traits system even if it might be in a last iteration stage need fix and tweak, at least a month or 2 of work imo unless they already have the next iteration ready which could be possible. But in the profession i played a lot of traits are still not working and i think the class could go with some tweak Anet might want to make before launching. I don't talk about revamping some core principle like some players ask, but some tweaks i don't think any serious company will want to put after release if they don't want millions of player crying because their main class got "heavily" changed a month after release, not that we haven't saw that so many times in past mmo though. So to make it short we are clearly still in beta stage here, and how much work and time they need to go out is simple speculation on our part. Once more balance and class work is done during beta, so this is all normal process all mmo i tested went thru.

Once more let them do their job, if it was that eminent, they would have told us, i don't think they are that stupid to announce their launch a couple of day before, they will do it at least a month or 2 before. What company in his right mind wouldn't prepare their market? There is a big difference between them not wanting to be tight with a release date they are not 100% sure to reach and a company that have no clue what they are doing and cannot put a date on his work.

All these release date talk non sense are honestly getting on my nerves, if their early stress test method seam really awesome idea to actually make a really well tested beta rather than a half assed job as mmo usually do, well the amount of release date nonsense both made by players and obviously pros is just literally stupid. Especially the pro that are supposed to know how a close beta stage in game development work, but they seam so eager to entice player attention they kind of play their own game.  So once more stop putting so much pressure on Anet, and let them do their work god damn it, they will tell you once they can fix a sure date.

Late August or most likely september. Not sure if they plan on releasing Asura/Slv for the beta events but this game still has ways to go.

  • KanethKaneth Member RarePosts: 2,286

I would say that the game is far more finished than most AAA mmos I have played around launch for the past 7-8 years, and yes that does include WoW.

MMOs will always be a work in progress, so theoretically, they are never finished. I have had no major issues in either BWE. The classes I played, Elementalist/Neco/Warrior/Guardian, all felt very unique and had no glaring issues that I could find. I also had no technical issues with my mid-range setup.

A September release could be very likely given what we've seen the past two BWEs. Additionally, a September release would allow for two additional BWEs. Although, I would like to see them keep the servers up for a week in July or August and see how they hold up over a more extended period, and to see what their traffic might look like in a more live environment.

To those complaining that melee feel weak:

I'm sorry, but I think the performance issues of classes are boiling down to a "learning to play" scenario. Melee plays very differently than most other mmos. Normally, melee folks are used to wading into the thick of battle and surviving boatloads of damage. That simply doesn't exist in GW2. Moving in and out of range, proper use of cooldowns, and knowing when to press and when to be defensive are going to be a large part of the melee experience. I enjoyed the melee game so much that I played my Ele as Dagger/Dagger and found the experience to be very enjoyable. I got my butt handed to me a number of times, but after I became more patient and played with a bit more finesse, I became a terror on the battlefield.

Granted, there will be tweaks throughout the entire experience of GW2, but at the moment, I would say that the game is good shape.

melee is very strong in gw2. i enjoyed playing my guardian.

Although I never put much weight in predictions of investors / financial analysts it's still nice to see they adjusted their prediction from Q4 to Q3 for GW2 launch.

Let's hope we indeed get a release date soon :)
