Banned for obscene language on official forum. Really?

CetraCetra Member UncommonPosts: 359

I got banned and thread deleted on official forum for posting this. Reason banned is "Obscene Language".

GW2 has zero downtime. Yeah a MMO with $%@#$# ZERO downtime. Ingame players will receive a notification saying "New build available. Please restart." THATS IT. No waiting countless hours to get some crappy hotfixes or new patch.

An action game needs 10 hrs maintenance? What a sick joke.

Sorry blizzard you are no longer the epitome of making great games. You were 8 years ago and you just stopped there. Its time to do away with this maintenance bull!@#$. Its 2012. You will be the joke of the industry if nothing is going to change for the next few years. Year 2015, 8-10 hours weekly maintenance? That will be a nice laugh.

What obscenity? I think i just hit their nerve. Last time i ever buy any blizzard product.

You go on a rant, where you swear multiple times, and call teh company crap, and expect them to just let your post sit there?

You broke the rules, you got punished, oh wait, i forgot, you can say whatever you want and shouldnt be punished for it.

If any nerve was hit, it was them hitting your nerve by banning you for breaking their forum rules, maybe next time dont use obscene language and you wont get modded for it, combine that with teh fact that the post served no purpose other than to effectivley say" yopu guys suck these guys are butter than you", which wouldnt fly on any forum.

Sounds like you need to grow up and take responsibility for your actions.

^^^ you can always tell when someone was banned for a good reason, because they always go to another forum,,  act like they did nothing wrong and whine about how they were banned, and how the company that banned them did it because they suck.

Contrary to what you belive, a profanity filter isnt there so you can go on rants, you broke the rules you got banned, get over it.

Its no differant that in game in an mmo, just because it was a swear filter, doesnt mean you can go into chat and start swearing left and right without getting punished, guess you should have read the forum rules before posting.

"This category includes both clear and masked language in posts, signatures, and/or links to websites containing such language or images which:

                    Are pornographic in nature

Be given a temporary ban from the forums, depending upon severity

While these repercussions may seem harsh, we feel very strongly that this behavior has no place on the forums due to its extremely offensive and inappropriate nature
    ."

Again, you broke the rules, that you agreed to, and got punished, no one to blame but yourself.

And just in case its relevent somehow, I dont like Blizzard, or Diablo 3.

The ban was definitely deserved, sorry to say.

Still a good point to be made, though; Blizzard is rediculously slow with updates. If an update introduces bugs, you either have to just deal with it for weeks before they are adressed at all in the next scheduled patch, or else the the servers will go down again later the same day as the initial patch or the day after, and another 5 hours will go by before they're brought back up. It's absurd.

Even old-EverQuest, years before WoW, during the Kunark days when I last played, had a lot of small patches that took seconds to download. You'd just log on, the client would download some small file to fix a bug or two, and you'd get on and play, no big deal. Blizzard can't even do the smallest of patches without hours of downtime and massive amounts of problems. It's absurd.

Never played a blizz game but I like the weight of their ban hammer. Deserved imo.

Downtime is downtime that will be downtime which will lead to more downtime while time is down. Stop acting as if they stole your last breath.

    Don't do it then...

In general, people don't want to read that kind of thing and the people running the forums don't want to see it either. When you sign up for the forums, you agree to not use that sort of language. If you decide to ignore the rules you agreed to abide by when you sighed up, you can hardly complain when they kick you off. You'll get no sympathy from me on this one.

No you were ummm just being a whiner saddly with nothing to say constructively at all, and as such shoould be banned for it without the fact of the use of offensive language as well. You do not like how a company does it work just stop buying, and get over it prior to moving on, since it looks alot more you have a bigger issue with blizz than the maintenance time they take for their games. Honestly i wonder sometimes if you might be able to sighted as defermation of character or such for what you said, though not sure that would go for a company though. I would laugh my ass off if we see several people taken to court by companies for such posts, and than sued for what they said in their posts (mostly those that are compeltely unconstructive in nature.), since allowing people to get away with such things is kinda wrong on any grounds.

Fact, the op broke blizzards forums rules, he got punished for it, you can act like everyone else is wrong all you want, but your the one in denial.

In which where you as a poster of a forum need to obey the rules that you agreed for the ability to post in their forum? Or where people should be held responcible for bad choices, and such so that they actually i don't know learn from them. Sounds more like you want to be able to do whatever you want, without fear of getting your privalages revoked for what you do, and that is a LaLa land if i ever heard of one.

Unless you were actually referring to the CEO's pet canines, you referred to Blizzard staff as dogs.

    You deserved what you got.

By the way, GW2 has 168 hours of down time almost every week.

He broke rules WAAA qqq, all i ever talk about is rules... Is that right i don't know could it be seen as wrong possibly better not break rules.

My god what type of unthinking sheep do we have to deal with in this age.

The rules are clear, you only want them to conform because your so used to conforming yourselves.

"This category includes both clear and masked language in posts [This is not defined, is that innuendo or mispelled], signatures, and/or links to websites containing such language or images which:

Are an inappropriate reference to human anatomy or bodily functions
                    Are pornographic in nature

    $%@#$#

Not a word at all, not even masked, there is no word there. Watch jimmy kimmel's unessecary censorship you cannot tell what this word is in refernce to, thus by their RULES as clearly stated it is not a violation.

    bull!@#$

OK this on is masked, but is not a "refernce to human anatomy or bodily functions" Nor is it pornographic. AHH i love rules, you seem to love them also... but agian you don't wanna play by the rules yourself. As you can clearly see this doesn't meet the requirement of the stated rule.

    %^-*

See the first entry, this is not a violation of the stipulated rules/agreement.

If a player is found to have participated in such actions, he/she will:

Be given a temporary ban from the forums, depending upon severity

While these repercussions may seem harsh, we feel very strongly that this behavior has no place on the forums due to its extremely offensive and inappropriate nature."

I might as well live in lala land; one could argue that his post went aginst the spirit of the rule. But then agian his usage of them is not agist the spirit of their rule. Thus you have admited you break the rules...

"You broke the rules, you got punished, oh wait, i forgot, you can say whatever you want and shouldnt be punished for it."

You beg the question here (its a device that pretty much poiints out that you have not made an arguement or shown someone to be in error, just stated they are.. and that they are agian).

So who is in denial the person who takes the time to link the language code without seeing id it actually #$54S^d (that is "applies", see thats a masked word but not an inappropriate masked word).

Thus i can easily do this:

"Yeah a MMO with [absolutely, abouts, hardly, monkey {however this one is not logical}] ZERO downtime. "

"Anet is the real modern game developer. Tell yr CEO and his puppies to make a studio tour of Anet and learn some professional [stuff, skill, #$%$ {could a masked word if that what this is be another masked word?}, task, traits, care, anythign else your midn wants to put here]"

Now you could state  well i know what he ment, NO YOU DON'T. you believe you know what he ment, as there is a high likelihood your correct in your assumptions. But the rules do not dictate that a person can be banned for what a person posting may or may not be thinking while typing the post. And short of that by their stipulated RULES he was banned unfairly.

This was a great post. Now on the other hand because i don't care that much for the rules, more about intent, reason, force, and outcome. He was obviously banned because he typed the true that blizzards upgrade/server system is worse than that of MMORPGs from 12 years ago in a non-persistant game.. Which is just junk i mean its awful. On the other hand Anets system is amazing advanced, fast, and effective.  And blizzard no wanted to deal with that morsel of truth.

Blizzard's 'magic number' when it comes to swearing seems to be 3. 1 or 2 times is generally overlooked, but 3 times and your ass is grass. It doesn't help that you were bashing the game too. Don't take it personally though, the mods over there are even stricter than the ones here.

I got banned today for posting on a thread about an interview with Jay Wilson when he stated that they got 'mostly positive' feedback about the story. I posted something like, "I want to know who the idiots are who gave them positive feedback on the story so they can be properly defenestrated." A little harsh perhaps, but the story of the game really is terribly done.

Did I deserve a 3-day ban? Possibly, but not for 'harassment'. Exactly who was I harassing? I didn't name names, I didn't call anyone out, just made a general statement. Then again, I guess expecting them to list the reason as 'we don't like negative opinions of our games' is a bit unrealistic.

Funny thing is, they didn't delete the post I supposedly got banned for...

  • doragon86doragon86 Member UncommonPosts: 589

The ban was justified. You didn't follow the forum rules. On a side note, yes Blizzard is behind when it comes to other developers. I don't know if it's cause they got complacent due to WoW or they simply refuse to rethink their methodologies. However, if they continue operating in this way they'll shoot themselves in the foot. Trion, ArenaNet, and other developers push out quality controlled patches and content at a much faster rate than Blizzard with minimal down time. Blizzards need to get on board, or they will be left behind.

"For the Angel of Death spread his wings on the blast,
And breathed in the face of the foe as he passed:
And the eyes of the sleepers waxed deadly and chill,
And their hearts but once heaved, and for ever grew still!"

But if the mods themselves don't follow the rules (or even apply them equally).. then guess what, there aren't any rules. Not really.
