1) League of Legends, the entire game is based around combat.
League of Legends is not an mmorpg.
And btw League of Legend revolves about competive e-sport pvp combat. Not the gearbased pve combat and grind of Tera
So if you read the post i was quoting the previos poster said MMO not MMORPG. And League of Legends is all about Combat and nothing else. it is an E-sport and has pvp combat if you want to be detailed. But when you say MMO and ask if there is a game that is again an MMO and based on combat, League of legends fills this criteria.
League of Legend is not even MMO regardless of the RPG part or not. It is MOBA.
MOBA!
It is not MASSIVELY multiplayer online. It is just Multiplayer online, like Diablo 3, but with even less story element because it is a battle arena game.
Thus you are comparing apples with not even oranges, but with monkeys. It is not even on the same evolution tree.

Standing around in a city with a "finished" character is not very exciting, sooner or later the novelty wears off.
I didnt want max level and max gear right away I payed 60 bucks and sub fee. I wanted to be entertained taken on a journey through a game and progress along the way. What I got was shot past 59 lvls of the game at sub sonic speed into a titanium wall of gold eat gold eat gold.
I sense some exaggeration with your comment that you were "shot past 59 lvls of the game". When we as players really want to be entertained we can slow down and enjoy the journey of the game.
I have leveled very quickly in plenty of games as well. SWTOR is a prime example. I got to max level at "sub sonic speed" and yet others have taken months to get there as crazy as that may be. They stopped and smelled the roses, and I did not.
Our urge to get to the end game is what the issue is. We keep thinking that the whole game starts at max level. It doesn't anymore, developers are not investing as much into the end game anymore it seems. We are just slow figuring this out.
The end game is dying out. We are not MMO virgins anymore. We eat up the content way too quickly and the developers can't get expansions out fast enough to satiate us.
What does that leave us with? Make the game into a grinder, or make the endgame into a money/time sink and call it a day. Treadmills and carrots.
No seriously I didn't stay up for hours at a time with coffee, nor did I take off work or miss out on the weekends beer run. I literally just did quests when i had them, grouped with friends and guildmates for dungeons even running some of them for lower lvl mates and went on my way. In less than 3 weeks I was max level which is pretty slow compared to some of the others that were max in the first week for the Prime acheivement. In fact before I did the charge back i had quests all the way back to lvl 46 in my quest log because I didnt even need to do them all to get to max. I tried to pace myself becasue there were already whispers of a horrible endgame but when quests give 14 million exp and 1 BAM gives 500k exp per kill the only way I could even imagine to stop and smell the roses is sit in a town and chat on the broken world chat with a 1 miniute lockout after each message you send. I even tried an alt but I ended up fighting the same tree type mobs I was fighting in the lvl 60 area and thought to myself wheres my bank card I'm no fool this shit is jacked up. Well I didn't really think that but I called got my money back for the whole game sub etc and posted on here. And never shall Tera be installed on any computer I own forever and ever AMEN.
So the OP wants to begin a game with top teir gear and lvl cap, screw the effort to get there, and have an entire new game as endgame? Hmm just go play Mobinogi so when your tired of nothing to do you can reset to lv 1. Guys this game is not a MMO changer by any means what so ever. The quests are generic but the writing is decent (more than i can say for WoW some of its crap doesnt make a lick of sense but they have changed the questing around to where its a bit fun but that took years and customer whiplash to change it, i now love doing some of the dailys like the fireland aireal bombings and turtle kicking but that wasnt always a part of the game, remember vanilla?) but remeber this is an original korean grinder. It has taken Blizzard upteen years to make their quests tolerable and fun at times but you expect he newcomer to perfect? New endgame content is coming in the summer, they are changing the content to fit our lazy western adrenaline fueled asses. I personally will be playing the game until its no longer fun, which so far it still is. Its a solid game with a developing comapny that is actually listening to its fans, so my word to the OP is go worship your next game until it dissapoints you, then come back and maybe tera wil entertain you for a few weeks if not months.

Already terminated the account and got my 88 bucks back. And as I said in a previous post I had no want or desire to get to max with perfected gear. One of the first things I did was make a class for each type and see what playstyle I like the most. I ended up on one of the classes considered the hardest to lvl The Mystic and even just casually playing as I still have work sleep beer and League of Legends I ended up lvl 60 in 3 weeks. I tried to find some fun to make it to the next content patch then I researched what the next content patch was and realized it was just more grind and more RNG. Knowing when to get out is pretty important but iff you're having fun with it by all means carry on. I will not lie to people though and anyone thinking of trying this game should find something better to do like maybe slam your face into a red brick.

To be fair, my experience with the game convinced me it was free to play material at best. The combat is unique and different enough to make the game fun to play but the game itself is very similar to other Korean style games like Scarlet Legacy and certainly Aion.
I could not justify spending the money on the client and the sub as some others have mentioned. If it were free to play, I would play now and then for something different.
I have been floating from game to game for a long time now trying to find something to sink my teeth into. I understand the frustration of playing a game that just promises but ultimately will not deliver.
It is just not a surprise to me that this game much like other games of the same style relies heavily on a gold and time sink for gear development. The Eastern market is saturated with games like these and I have played many of them. As a free to play model you would buy items to assist you with the success rate and spend plenty of real money instead of the pixel variety. AKA pay to win.
TERA will probably be f2p with a cash shop in the near future. The game seems already designed for it.

However out sounds worse than most newer themepark games due to RNG. If the RNG rings true combined with gear being more important than player skill due to movement lock (yea that's what I want in an action pvp game, not being able to dodge...) Then I'm glad I didn't bother following this game
Please if you ever listen to one random post on a forum listen to this.
except if I listened to people like you I wouldn't be having the blast of a time that I'm having now.
whew! Good thing I don't need to listen to others to make up my own mind.
The OP was obviously objective and we all should totally trust his judgement beyond any reasonable doubt! Cuz he knows what's best for us. He's telling us how to save your money! zomg!

If you want to spend the money on the game and give it a whirl and find it fun fine. But there are far too many people lying about what the game offers through OMFG action combat. You don't even use the combat at the end of the game you herd sheep or talk to a to talk to a guy or sit in an afk lagfest of a clusterfuck to gain rep. Or you use that same action combat to run the same 2 dungeons endless times to gear up to gear up to gear up. Thats the truth and if you like that sort of thing thin have at it. If you're in it for the pvp then lets just say if you don't find flat ground or face a healer with 30% reflect damage you wont win with any melee class as even the slightest incline destroys any chance of your gap closer from working. I can write a term paper on all the things wrong with this game and none of them will be evident in the 7-day bait and switch trial because 1. they dont let you see endgame content 2. they dont allow pvp 3. chat is blocked.

I think a dress covers more than lipstick and even then yeah .... :P
I was on the fence, and the Amazon sale pushed me over. (about a month ago). I tried every class and the only one who's combat felt fun was the warrior (personal preference). Played through to about 30 and joined a few guilds. Listening to guild chat/TS I determined there was no point in my playing through to end game due to the massive grind.
I think, if you can get it on sale, and you are into PvP..this game is totally worth it. Otherwise...wait for it to go to F2P. My 2 cents.
In the meantime, since all MMOs are basically the same now, TERA wins with the better combat (especially once they get battlegrounds in).
Might have the best combat, but other than that and graphics (which only helps if you ike the style), TERA is mediocre at best in every other facet of MMORPGs
Same old same old grind just disguised differently.
Archeage is really the hope for something actually new in MMOs.

Just like any game, grind is doing the same tihng repeatedly while not having fun. (at least in my opinion) Any game with experience and/or progression will require repetition of something...the key is if it's fun.
Tera's combat can be fun, especially in a PvP setting. Unfortunately, for me, the PvE portion is very grindy, in spite of the combat.
