well the title says it best but id like to add a few notes to that question.
WoW is not what it used to be,we all know that, starting from ToC the game has been ruined in all its aspects from community quality to the very content of the game with blizzard chasing younger players around cause they knew for a fact kids were their only "cash resource" left. at least this is my opinion and ofc i respect who says that today wow is better than ever while i still think its gonna fall in a craphole in no more than a year time.
GW2 is very well done perfectly shaped,i have to admit that, but as many gw fans and even developers said :it wont fit in any case a powergamer expectations.since there won't be a "vertical progression" that will divide people who play 8 hours a day from people who play 8 hours a week.i wont argue on that since this topic is not about gw2.
Rift: ive played it for a while never liked it: races all look the same, the game is hell boring and feels pointless and plastic-made to me,so i took a chance when my server became a test server and instead of moving to another i just cancelled my sub. i know a lot of content have been developed in rift but its the game itself which ill never like from how characters look to how spells are cast and such.
Ive played many mmos in my life from eq and eqII to aion, aoc, tera, lotro, swtor and so on and for different lacks in those games that many people have mentioned on these forums ive left them behind,as i said before i won't go in details cause i dont want this thread to become an open battle like some others.
so after this all here comes the question again: what should a powergamer play these days in your opinion?
Comments
Chess?
Powergamer? What does that even mean?
i was expecting a hello kitty online answer. you surprised me for real
Runescape...Maplestory...anything that requires a longgg time to really hit the top tier
Well more surprise than most modern day MMO's ! glad I could help a little
lol ye i guess playing chess would be much better looking at how mmos are these days
EVE
I dunno..Everquest 1? Everquest 2? both can be played casual but to reach top tier raids and PvP require signifigant investment of time. Everquest 2 has arguably more content then any game currently on the market. It's a big age'd but I swear it's a way under-rated game.
Darkfall - with having its upcoming F2p weekend could be a nice choice for a powergamer, it's a sandbox and can be a harsh world, but, again to reach top tier PvP and such requires some investment of time.
Any of the asian grindfest, I don't play those but they seem to be ideal for the grind, grind, grind type.
Backgammon
WoW was never meant for powergamers from the beginning. In fact EQ2 was directed towards the hardcore faction, whereas Blizzard aimed at the casual players.
But if you want the ultimate challenge as a MMO-gamer, play Vanguard. The crafting alone is a big timesink.
Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don't need.
thanks everyone for replying ill look into them all at once
Darkfall?
Not a powergamer game at all, IMO.
I've been playing Runescape for 8ish years, and I'm still not close to "finishing." There's a lot of content that requires a good amount of time to be input. It's a definite time sink with a feeling of accomplishment, and fits very well into powerleveling. There's a good amount of end game type of stuff too.
There is also an upcoming big update to the combat mechanics and gameplay. It will be totally revamping combat and making it more modern and enjoyable.
Munchkin
Lineage 2?
*scratches head* Powergamer? *looks in dictionary*
... ahhh, you meant to spell Pomegranate!
I was gonna say TSW... but damnit there's EVE again....
Whatever I'm not playing.

Kyleran: "Now there's the real trick, learning to accept and enjoy a game for what it offers rather than pass on what might be a great playing experience because it lacks a few features you prefer."
John Henry Newman: "A man would do nothing if he waited until he could do it so well that no one could find fault."
FreddyNoNose: "A good game needs no defense; a bad game has no defense." "Easily digested content is just as easily forgotten."
LacedOpium: "So the question that begs to be asked is, if you are not interested in the game mechanics that define the MMORPG genre, then why are you playing an MMORPG?"
I think you would be very surprised with what they can put in GW2 for 'powergamers'
The first one had alot of content for those that want to spend hours. Maxing 25+ titles took along time and alot of play. The difficutly dropped when you could have 7 heroes but still. Defender of ascalon title was ridiculous. The pvp titles were out of reach of the normal gamer.
You can already see in GW2. There will be a medal for doing every heart/point of interest/waypoint on every single zone in the game on 1 character. Also some reward for doing every dungeon. Anet has never been about making content easymode either. HM on gw1 was quite tough requiring some specific team setups and coordination. Im sure the explorable modes of the endgame dungeons will be really tough.
You will be rewarded with better skins on weapons or some rare titles so you will stand out. Also pvp looks to be very competetive with tournament play.

Depends on why you call yourself a powergamer? If current MMOs are just lacking like I see them to be and because of that boring and too easy my only choice right now is TSW.
