I'm rather surprised to see positive feedback for this game. The character creation is horrible compared to what I would have expected. The video's posted earlier proved there are lag spikes. Must be something that people like, but I haven't seen anything to justify actually giving it ANY more of my time.
PVE is where it's at check out the dungeon previews that the guys from this site put together... but yes CC is very very poor atm sadly
Agreed completely! The stories in this game are really nice and I love the investigation quests. The zones are also very immersive in their look and feel.
Unfortunately, everything else is lacking and needs more work. Funcom is really doing this game a disservice by releasing it on the 3rd of July. A few more months of development time and this game could be a real contender.
Besides, i personally think fighting between which one as the best combat and large scale pvp is stupid. Planetside 2 owns both their a$$es put together
yes because comparing Two Games that people have actually played vs. a game no one has played is always logical.

many people have played PS2 it's been beta testing for awhile now and is releasing this year.. all games we are comparing have not been "released" yet anyway
I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. If I buy a candy bar at a store, oftentimes, I will drop it... so that it achieves its maximum flavor potential. --Mitch Hedberg

Haven't played PS2, or PS1 for that mater, but fro what i've seen and heard, it looks great.
I really like TSW and GW2 (check my post history), but PS2 is devoted to being a large scale pvp game with FPS combat. 'm not saying it's better, just different and, apperantly, good at what it does, same as GW2 and TSW.

PS1 was a blast to play in it's prime. It was later ruined, in a true Sony fasion, but during the first year it was absolutely glorious. That's why I'm really looking forward to PS2. Hopefully Sony doesn't ruin it like they ruined the first game.
Guys, there was already one warning regarding off-topic discussion. Making direct comparisons as a mall part of an overall comment is not the issue here. The issue is whole conversations about other topics. The Pub is open if you want to discuss and compare multiple games in a single thread.
Any OT conversation after this will result in a lock.

I agree with this. I love the modern setting mixed with lovecraftian supernatural and conspiracy theory factions. I even enjoyed the PVE a bit as the story keeps you going through the quests.
But the rest of the game isn't just average, it's just poor.
Funcom really needs to delay release for a few months and make the game much better, we all want TSW to be a good MMO that can basically be a huge success and right now it cannot be that. I would love to PVP in a 3-faction modern day system, which TSW can do - just not the way it is set up now.
If it releases in this totally unfinished state on 3rd July, it will just end up in sudden death, and as MMO players who want a good game to play, that is just the worst outcome.
I love the world and atmosphere. But i am very disappointed by pvp.
Very bland and simple map design for all pvp maps.
Fusang is a glorified node capture battleground with persistent mode set to "On". No epic feel. How many times can you do fusang until you sick of the map?
Stonehenge and ElDorado are boring maps. 3 factions battleground is bad. It is usually 2 factions raping the 1 winning faction. The poor winning faction getting punish for being better by fighting 5v10 against other 2 factions. 3 factions for RVR/Castle warfare is fun but it is just not suited for battlegrounds. Its imbalance, chaotic and messy.
Why cant developers put in more thought when designing a pvp map? Swtor warzones are crap too. 3 words Boring Dull Bland. Even old fps like counterstrike has better map designs that have more variety and alternate routes and more depth. WoW battlegrounds are interesting. Some maps may look simplistic but it actually have depth. Upcoming Guild wars 2 has interesting and beautiful pvp maps and DAOC style rvr persistent zone.
Stop making mind numbling boring simple pvp maps that even a school kid can come up with.
You get some small amount of white marks for taking them.
At the end of the week they look at who owned each facility the longest and distribute a large pool of white marks amongst the societies. This also helps smaller factions as there are less players to distribute amongst.
There are imbalance issues on the server that only allowed Templars to be made for the first 2 weekends, and that is causing frustration to the people who re-rolled Dragon and Illuminati last week or this week. As a player who only has Templar characters, I zone into Fusang and the entire map is red, or 90% red. I tried to run around solo or with only 1 or 2 others, but since there is an indicator on the map wherever a skirmish breaks out, an "even" fight quickly turns into a one-sided bloodbath as Templar squads converge. Hopefully the ratios are more even on the 2 newer servers.
The faction buff is pretty significant once you have most or all of the capture points, so it is worth the effort.
I like the Templar uniforms, the Illuminati ones look pretty good as well, but the Dragon's dps uniform could use some reworking. Having only 3 skins per side is a pretty nifty way to lower the graphics load when large groups converge.
I'm mostly in TSW for the story and PvE, but I'm game for the PvP and I had fun for the 2-3 hours I've spent in the zones so far.
Regarding people complaining about TTK (time to kill), it does seem that people are complaining about dying too fast and going DPS. I saw this guy http://no.twitch.tv/oddver doing a defensive hammer/blade build and basically staying alive through a lot. He killed a bit more slowly than some, but he stayed alive for quite some time. With some healing backup he could take some serious pounding.
Another thing I saw him doing was taking back anima wells to help in defense of turrets and guardians so they opposing faction(s) would have a harder time getting reinforcements. To me, it looked like Fusang has some really good strategic and tactical opportunities. I really laughed when he attacked a party trying to take down one of the guardians and he killed their tank.
Regarding balance, people are complaining that QL3 green geared characters are at an disadvantage vs QL5 or QL6 blue geared characters. There is actually quite a huge difference, but when everybody have QL10 green/blue/purple gear, I think the difference will be a lot smaller. QL10 green vs QL purple will be a bit hard, but getting blue gear in this game is pretty easy. Going into a mob with a DPS build and expecting to survive is also a bit strange to me. You would want to do a defensive build, for instance a build built around damage reflection (through defensive abilities that make opponents glance and take damage if they glance for instance - look at the Riposte ability if you are wondering what I am talking about). Get a healer to back you up, and some of those zergs would probably collapse.
people who is playing PvP in the BW should wait launch to comment in PvP.
some reasons why...
1- Templars had a lot of days to get ahead of the other factions.
2- The gear progression is more linear in the start of the game, so until you reach the 4th zone to get Qlv 10 gear (no one can in the BW) each piece of better gear does make a diference.
3- Funcom is patching the CB 1-2 times per day, the BW was already outdated in friday.
4- No active dodge.
5- Lack of good builds because you lack abillities, your character is in the start of the game.
6- Lack of knowledge about the game, a lot of the people in the BW only played in the BW, even though reading about the game helps, theres some things that you only learn with playtime.
Did you know that you can speak to FATE and up all your skills, get 10k ability points, and all ql10 gear? That makes 5 of you 6 points incorrect. FATE is there for the PvP test. Have fun till lauch, work on some builds, and jump on in!

haven't played past QL4 stuff so couldn't say but either way still don't see point of PVP until you are well geared and even then it's still just zerg vs zerg in fusang
Sorry but you can't have everything. And yes it doesn't even take that long to get QL 10 items, the progression in TSW is not like WOW where you raid to get shinies till your fingers bleed.
As far as zerg is concerned DAOC is one of the best PVP games ever, what do you think it was? what do you think it will be in GW2?
Don't want to be part of a zerg do what my guild does, make a small party and take on bigger groups for challenge or kill stragglers if solo.
again in other games such as GW2 you have other objectives and can build seige weapons that can take out large amount of players so a small group can take on a zerg if played right.. I just see nothing like that here.. not to mention you get a boost in gw2 allowing you to at least be competative even in WvWvW.. so yes I would say you can have everything... I just don't care for gear based PVP never have and never will but some people seem to enjoy it so more power to them I suppose. Glad PVE is why I pre-ordered this game though not pvp...
My GW2 experience was nothing short of a huge zerg, along with many others give me a sec and I will dig out the 40+ pages complaining about this from the forums.

All pvp ends up being a zerg. Why do people still complain about this. I have not played a pvp game where it doesn't end up as a zerg. GW2 likes this so much that leveling is following a zerg from DE to DE.

not if there's objectives that can be accomplished outside a zerg and things you can do that small groups can actually take out entire zergs.. yes zerg's will happen but if the maps are designed in a way you can enjoy PVP outside of just zerging I enjoy it a great deal more.

What's annoying about the PvP in TSW as well, as there is not only zerging in the persistant battle grounds, but also in the warzones as well. Stonehendge is basically built around a massive 3-way zerg in the middle, and Dorado has a similar problem.
Furthermore holding objectives in Fusang has little importance. I've already heard people in beta weekend talking about 'first 2 factions to start point trading @ launch win', and it's absolutely true. People are enjoying it atm because they just wanna get in and kill crap. And for that it's fun. However, I have my suspicions as to the longevity of such an empty system. Also the respawn system is pretty ridiculous in Fusang. More often than not when I kill someone I will run into them again 5-10 seconds later, in almost the exact same spot I just killed them from.
There's also not much you can do against a zerg in this game. It pretty much is higher numbers = win, almost every time. Damage is also extremely viable atm. I've been rolling a damage spec and the only person I've had trouble killing, somehow got into PvP with ~18k hp.

So, what's the objectives of Fusang - except for fighting?
Get the world domination buff
Get white tokens to get gear
By taking facilities
By holding facilities
Get xp
You don't get the world domination buff if you are only holding 1 facility because your whole faction is in one big zerg.
You get more white tokens for holding a facility for your faction than you get by taking one.

Honestly, the xp is negligible at best. PvP is flat out not an efficient way to get xp if that's your thing. I tested a number of things, and hands down the best method of XP gain was doing dungeon runs. With a decent group you could get between 8-15ish AP every 15mins.
The buff, I commented on this in another thread. First day of this BWE we didn't have it, 2nd day we did. I barely noticed a difference, though the extra HP was nice. Not saying that the buff isn't there, but rather the way combat works it's just insignificant. If you're 2 shotting people, with our w/ out the buff, you're still 2 shotting people. IF you're tanking, with our w/ out the buff you're still taking around the same number of hits, give or take a couple.
The tokens are indeed the best (and imho only) incentive for PvP atm, outside of the fun of killing other players. You can get more white tokens for holding a facility, if your team gets world domination, but the rate at which you get them is a lot slower. Most efficient seemed to be killing players / swapping anima wells.

actualy its 100 templars raping the rest. Period. 5 dragons or 10 ilum show up and get chased by 50 temps , *yawn*

also thers no use to hold the stuff, in templar chat its told to let the small ones capture something so we can retake it for the quests.
