Returning to LotRO, played for only a few months after launch so I am going into this new. Looking for a class that can solo well, is welcome in groups (but does not need to tank or main heal...sort of had enough of those roles), and is fun and interesting to play...something that is not a one trick pony.
If anyone has advice it would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Burglar or Loremaster are alot of fun. That's the two main classes I play. Captains are always in demand as they can fill a variety of roles
Want advice? ok
I think this game is good for a new player, but i dont suggest you going into it because its just going downhill as terms with content/customer relations/cash shop. For me i only enjoyed it up to Moria/lothlorien, but ever since mirkwood came out everything became a grind and i had to pay more money from their damn lotro store while i was a vip member. Try at your own risk and GL to w/e happens to you. at least you cant say you were not warned.
p.s- This game will cost you a lot of money if you're just coming in. You need to buy SoA, Mines of moria, Mirkwood, Rise of isen, Riders of Rohan, ontop of that with a monthly sub so if you got the money go ahead
If you buy Rise of Isengard it comes with:
Access to the Path of the Fellowship Quest Packs including Trollshaws, Eregion, Lothlórien and Moria plus the Mirkwood Quest Pack as a special bonus
That would probably be your best bet and is much cheaper then what the poster above me made it out to be.

As for a class I recommend hunter they are fun and do some outstanding DPS.
This is apractice no game has ever attempted so why attribute it to Turbine???
I have never played a game with expansions where there wasn't an option to purchase all of the expansions included with the latest expansion.
Add to that the fact that you dont need any of that stuff until you reach what was once max level of fifty and you have all the time in the world to acquire turbine points to purchase for free some of the content you are missing out on.
Out of curiosity mind telling us what exactly you HAD to spend money on after mirkwood because I was also vip for the first six months or so after free to play release and I never had to spend money on anything.
Agreed.
I was really a fan of Lotro and I would recommend it to many people in past. Not anymore though.
I would advise against returning.
Lol! That's an absolute mine of misinformation you managed to post there.
For a start, VIP members don't have to spend any extra real life money in the store if they don't want to, as they get 500 free Turbine Points included with their sub every month.
Secondly, as other people have already indicated, you don't need to buy any expansions at all until you have played for a while and then you have the option of buying one of the bundles at a vastly reduced price over the original cost.
Personally, I wouldn't take out a sub at all. The freemium system works really well. To start off, just buy some Turbine Points to buy some basic perks like extra storage space, auction slots, increased gold limit, and a low level horse and you're good to go until about level 30 without spending anything else. Then buy quest packs as you go. You don't need them all. Just get what you need or want to get you to level 50.
At that point you'll probably need to buy an expansion to go through Moria but there are various bundles available at a reasonable price.
LotRO is one of the few mmorpgs to have long term success. The fact that they haven't needed to close or merge any servers even after five years is a pretty good indication that it's a decent game.
nononono! first, level some toons to lvl 20. then sub once (it's cheaper then buyin TP's). once you are VIP, you become premium member after your sub is gone. it means, that you get 5 bags, no gold cap, get riding skill for free and many other bonuses.
after that if you want buy TP's, stay VIP, or do deeds to claim free TP's .
for more info about all for free check here and here!
also remember, that the whole main story line (epic book) is FREE.
you need to buy very few quest packs to cover ALL of your leveling.
my advice is to play as VIP until you get what you want, then go free forever...and DO DEEDS, but most important WAIT FOR SALES (i bought north downs for 1 TP and mines of moria for about 500)!
This may help you out OP http://lotro-wiki.com/index.php/Class it has some good information about all the classes and their roles.
And here's the thing, he asked "If anyone has advice it would be appreciated". He gave him an advice, so you can stop advertising/defending turbine quit getting mad and ranting about. That statement can be any advice.
