PS2 and Aimbotters

KrytycalKrytycal Member Posts: 520

If I've learned anything from playing FPS games is that there will always be aimbots, and I've seen MMOFPS ruined by them (see APB Reloaded). My question is: what's stopping aimbotters from ruining PS2?

At least with a box price, you deter aimbotters from coming back when you actively ban them. Considering PS2 will be F2P, how will they stop aimbotters from just making another account when they get banned? Please don't say IP bans.

Higby has stated numerous times how they are going to be all out after hakcers and cheaters. They want their game to remain as cheater free as possible. He's stated how there will be in live in game GM's who will be monitoring for aimbotters and such.

I'm along with you. I don't want this title to be ruined / hurt by the lameness that is hackers and aimbotters. We can only go on what Matt Higby has said and that is aggressive monitoring for cheats. I hope they can show and prove. Till then it's a wait and see approach.

this is what worrys me about this game also. as much as i want to play it i know its going to be infested with cheaters. and they can say what ever, there is no way they are going to be able to be ontop of the hundreds of people that will be cheating and makeing new acounts everytime they get cought. there is just no way.

i would honestly rather pay for the game and deal with less cheaters than have it free and ruined by them.

Is it at all possible they will have a subscription option or a VIP level once you buy something from the cash shop?

I noticed Tribes Ascend has this and that once you are a VIP (have spent money on the game) you can join VIP only games, would planetside ever give people that have paid the option to play without the free2play people?

I realise its not the same due to planetsides scale of battles but something similar may let paying customers at least steer clear of the free players if there is a risk of this.

rofl you guys make it sound like free players are the only people on the planet that cheat... sadly that is not the case, many paying players cheat as well they will happily buy a cheat to compete with some of the more skilled free players.  iv seen that in quite a few games now days, seems to have taken wings with APBR though. where people openly buy cheat programs even if they are "subbing" to the game.

its nice to see a fps take a stance on it though, the last few f2pish fps games out there have had 0 anti-cheating support.. so you pretty much shot in the dark.

there will never be a 100% cheat free game. i wish there was but there will always be someone who feels the need to cheat

  • OpapanaxOpapanax Member Posts: 973

Indeed paying players will cheat too and try to use the excuse of paying for the game as giving them the right to exploit / cheat.

I think there might be some type of Premium packagae for those that want to "donate' to the success of Planetside 2..

If I let cheaters ruin a good game for me, there wouldn't be any good games. ie; I'm not detoured from playing the game based on the prospect of hackers.

There will always be cheaters ... FACT.

If you're against laimbotters and their ilk I suggest you do what I do and take down the name of a player you have witnessed cheat and mail it to SOE/Dice/whoever explaining what you witnessed ingame. If everyone who claims to find cheating so repugnant did this there would be a hell of alot less of it ingame.

I assume that with the help of the players that don't cheat it will make SOE's job 1000% easier [mod edit], if they are going to take it as seriously as they claim.

SOE has GM's? I thought it was just a bunch of guys in business suits looking to take your money.  It'll be like all thier other games, they won't do anything they say they're going to do.  When they finally do something it's broken or so late that the game's already empty because of it.  I'll never trust SOE, call me biased, but 3 strikes and your out, or in this case, off my computer.

    This is what SOE say,

Will hacking be a problem? Hacking is their number one concern, as they hate it as much as we do. They will have an entire team dedicated to it and will be using a third party software to handle it.

    The FAQ is here: CLICK

As to what the third party program will be I don't know, we'll just have to wait and see.

Of course there will always be cheating. But there's a difference between cheating, getting banned, and then making a new account for free vs cheating, getting banned and having to dish out another $50 for a new account.

I don't know. If someone is willing to cheat, get caught and lose all those precious experience points that went to certifications, then I say go for it. It will be their MAJOR loss... And I hope the devs ban their IP address...

i should start makeing a copy of every company who says " hacking is their number one concern " and they are going to do this and that and what ever else to stop the cheaters. because in the end the companies lose that battle everytime and honestly i dont think they even try to hard, i think they just tell us all the BS so we the sheep will believe them.

on a side note, i remember when Hirez said their game ( global agenda ) was immpossible to hack because the way they coded it lol there was hack videos in beta.

the bottom line is this, you cant stop them and being free you wont even come close to stopping them. this game will be a hack fest and people will quit because of it.

Hackers didn't care about get their precious experience points lost, and they certainly didn't care about losing certs...  Because you see in planetside most cheaters could do things that where not in the game to begin with.. So if im  br1 level character who could fly as a grunt, why would I care about being br20 and I will never be able to do that... And they certainly don't care about IP bans, since that is one of the easiest things to get around...

Back when I played Planetside I remember a guy name lasurus1111 who pretty much was  the straw that broke my back and got me to cancel my sub and finally quit the game...  I caught him doing all types of crazy stuff, this dude would float in mid air as a cloaker and snipe people from 100 feet in the air with a amp, climb tower walls and run faster than land vehicles in a max suit.  I even watched him take a shot at a Reaver in a AA max suit one day and when the plane got away this dude took flight in his max suit and few after the plane....wtf...

I reported him to SOE, I reported him to his outfit, sent tells to him and I even and called him out in public chat...And nothing happend to this dude... I sat back and watched him hack his way from br1 to br17+ before I quit...

And this guy was using some of the lesser hacks.. Towards the end of my time playing Planetside I ran into maxes that could teleport. Hell there was one hack where a guy would get in a max suit and block it and then would teleport people to him so he could spawn kill them over and over and over.. They would have a whole side spawning in the same spawn tube and just killing us over and over...  Talk about effecting gameplay...

Anyways SOE needs to be more strict on hackers and go beyond the norm..

I loved PS1 ... even Core Combat, what killed the game were the hackers ... and SoE didn't do a damn thing about it then.

What makes any of you think they will be able to curb them in this game? History speaks differently .... they have alot of work ahead of them to redeem themselves for PS1's mistakes.

Disclaimer : I like SoE, loved Ps1 and am looking forward to Ps2. I still reserve the right to be critical of their ingame support track record of Ps1.

I was close to being a hackfest when there was a sub.. So yeah, I believe your right....

Really sad when you think about it.

If Planetside 2 wants to be truely revolutionary, it will be the first FPS that makes getting rid of hackers its number 1 priority...

Same Company yes, Different Devs than PS1 yes, and funny thing about history, you are meant to make mistakes so you learn from them, now in PS2 we will see if they learned from them. History isnt meant to be looked back on and say yep they will repeat the same things, it is meant to look back on and make sure the same things are NOT repeated :)

and PS1 was subbed ... even in f2p games those that used hacks were ppl that actually bought it from somewhere most of the time but like PS1 that was subscribe to play and they didnd give a rats ass about the cryes of ppl and so hackers were cosy ingame for a long time

like Wolf Team that was f2p but Aeria sucks and they only open games as cash cows and again dont give a rats ass who is cheating and a ton of ppl were using hacks there so after a little bit when hackers were more than actuall fair players i quit the game and never went back

other games had hackers and ppl complaining that someone hacked ... mostly f2p fps

i am playing Blacklight Retribution from time to time right now (f2p fps game) and a ton of ppl that have no skill whatsoever with fps and die like fools called other hacker ... example: someone in my team said someone in the other team is hacking cause he died a ton to that person ( keep in mind that BL: R is almost a p2w game and u can actually buy better weapons and boots that give u a ton of speed with Zen) .. but i myself killed that person and died to him and i know he did not cheat

i'm sure i'll see some skilles ppl in PS2 will say that about ppl that dont hack but i really hope they actually do what they promise now to do to combat real hackers and not make the game and let it be a cash cow with no real customer service or anti-hack capabilities

Edit: and honnestly the ppl that dont hack are to blame in case of PS1 ... since it was sub ... the ppl that complain now that it had cheaters but were subbed for years ... if u see a game has cheaters (actual cheaters) u can get your friends, guildmates and talk with all others and unsubscribe ... and if a company sees they loose more customers because they let those few cheaters to get the money for those cheater subscriber ... they will eventually do something about it

but most of the time ppl complain but dont really unsubscribe or if its a f2p game go play something else and keep buying stuff and complain and nothing is done or is done very slowly
