I have been playing TERA since it's release. I love the game but hate the community. It is just god awful imo. I don't ever remember there being so much drama in my 7 years of WoW playing then there has been in TERA's first month. Seems like every douche bag, pig , and emo men and women came to this game. My sub runs out in 6 days and im really thinking about not renewing at all. I have a level 60 priest and 54 bersker i have seen what the game has to offer up to this point. This is one game where the gameplay is fine the community is garbage.

Haven't seen a problem on Celestial Hills. Sure, there's a bit of lighthearted smartassery here and there, but nothing rage inducing. I've found it more amusing than anything else, and breaks the monotony of the grind.

Yeah I have to agree and what really aggrivates me is that my daughter likes to watch me play but I had to make her stop because of all the vulgarity in there and as far as I've seen there is no filter. Sure I could just turn the chat off but then I might miss something.
I play on Celestial Hills too and Area chat especially in Arcadia has been aweful lately. the chat is just downright vulgar most nights. people should NOT ERP in /area..

I also played in CH during the 7-day trial, and fresh off the boat - I mean my very first moment in-game - I was forcibly cybered by an Elin.
I wasn't allowed to type in any chat because of the trial limitations, so this guy was paying a sub to cyber noobs.

If I said that "a bully spokesperson attracts his own kind", would it bring me closer to it?

i have to figure you are referring to LFG chat and Area....my comment on that is...of course a chat that expands across the entire server or area will have trolls and whatnot, and i think the community is great ive made a lot of new friends moving over from WoW, there are alot of people willing to group up for quests out of the blue, countless times ive walked up to strangers doing the same quests as me and walked away with a new friend...imo when you can do that at such a high rate in any mmo the community can be great...and as far as PK'ing goes if you think its a douche move for a bored 60 to gank you while you're questing, or someone a similar level, dont play on a pvp server, i can say i pk alot but mostly my own level, then they get their 60's and then i gank their guildies while theyre looking for me...i dont see any flaw in the community and think its an improvement from WoW there will always be some good and some bad, there is no perfect community...
Also, if this is the Dubanator in Dragonfall - I've seen him troll LFG chat late last week. Might not be the same Dubanator - but it would add to the ongoing irony if it was.
But this is not to bash the overall point. I think the trolling of the TERA community is the trolling I've seen in any "active" game. Only on "dead-ish" - totally not hip game's, like Champions, LotRO and such have I found relatively nice communities.
So why is Tera's community not relatively nice?
LOTRO has a higher NA/EU population than TERA fwiw.
If you ask people to name the games with the best communities youll find these games come up often: EQ2, EQ1, VG, LOTRO, Ryzomm. The main thing they have in common? They appeal mainly to an older crowd. TERA is the polar opposite, as its appeal is to the younger crowd, and a large sample survey done on the TERA forums showed the average age of a TERA player to be around 24-25, which is significantly lower than the industry norm.
Also, obviously generalizing here, its not the people under 18 that are an issue. Its the people from 18ish to 25ish that seem to be the main problem.
Maybe it's full of egomaniacs that were taken in by the alleged 'skilled-based' gameplay. Playing an MMO to prove they are somebody, haha. I think TERA lured a lot of those types.
Sadly a lot of people play mmo's for that very reason.
Unfortunately it is one of the reasons I quit the game. I think a more local chat would cut way down on this problem. ie 1000 feet or even a single zone. Once one person starts being a fool it snowballs and the game suffers for it.
Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.
trust me its not just Tera every MMO these days is full of idiots who love to just log in and spew their garbage in a general area chat. this is why i turn all of them off, its just not worth it to me to have to filter threw all the BS to try and use it for what its meant to be used for.
i been saying for years games need to just remove this option, or be smart like one of the korean games i tried long ago and charge people 1 dollar to put a sentence in global chat.
